Just finished the next adventure in Sadie Hoffmiller's culinary mysteries. I enjoyed this book but this one was a bit of a stretch for me I guess. I guess this one just goes to show how dangerous it can be to be a busy body. In this book we also see that Sadie has to make choices in her love interests. Will she choose exciting or will she choose safe? It was a fun book and the recipes sounded really yummy as usual. I found myself a journal and started copying recipes in it. Now I just need to st...more

Finally. Sadie is finally turning a corner for me. She's still a little nosy, but at least she's self-conscious about it! She seems to at last be aware that her "interest" in these murder cases is not normal. That her desire to be "helpful" is a little out of line. Yeah, she still gets in over her head, and still takes too much on herself, but at least there is some sort of internal struggle to rein herself in. Brava, Sadie!

So that made it much easier to actually let myself enjoy the story and f...more

Key Lime Pie by Josi S. KilPack a nifty cozy. The main character, Sadie Hoffmiller loves good Southern cooking, has a wonderful quirky sense of humor and is 56 years old. She wears her age well.

Sadie has two boyfriends, dependable Pete Cunningham and the wild Eric Burton. She feels a lot of attraction for Eric and is not so sure about Pete. After she broke up with Pete, should she encourage her girlfriends date Pete? She had got into trouble with the law previously along with Eric. Eric seems to...more

Culinary + mystery=one fantastic novel! That's just what this book was! Josi Kilpack has mad writing skills as an author. I loved how she instantly captured me with both the humor aspect, and the mysterious aspect, and added depth with a romance aspect, too! Her characters were gripping and kept me hooked through out.

I really loved Sadie's character, bless her heart. She was a witty one, who just can't sit still long enough to mind her own business and not be a busy body. Enter humor aspect. She...more

Hot dog! The Sadie Hofmiller we grew to love in Lemon Tart is back, after a descent into obnoxious rudeness in English Trifle and a complete departure from common sense in Devil's Food Cake. Sadie is still an impulsive busybody, but Kilpack takes the time to allow her protagonist to explain herself to herself--she knows she could be perceived as taking terrible chances and meddling where she has no business--but that allows the reader a glimpse of Sadie's inner life that explains her to the read...more

Sadie Hoffmiller is back, with another mystery to solve. This is the fourth book in a series of culinary mysteries. I enjoyed it, but felt like the ending was a little rushed. The author's afterword explains that she procrastinated her deadline and ended up with 6 weeks to write two-thirds of the novel. I don't think I would admit that, even if it were true.

I've been buying the books in this series for my husband's grandma for birthdays/etc. She brings them to me to read when she's done with th...more

Our loving busy-body, Sadie is lured into aiding Eric into finding his missing daughter. Sadie did not realize this until she arrives in Homestead, FL (criticizing the food all the way,) the next morning at the local police station. Sadie finds out Eric had fully expected Sadie to follow and even open the box he had asked her to FedEx overnight to him.

Sadie quickly gets caught up in Ex-wives, Ex-husbands, disabled ex-wives and caretakers. To me this go round Sadie was made to appear just too gul...more

Okay, since all my friends on Goodreads liked this one really well, they must have "caught on" to things that just didn't make sense to me. (Maybe my book was missing the last chapter.) This book was great until the end...when it didn't. I guess it was important to find out how Sadie's love life was going to turn out, and get that last recipe in, but I wanted to know what was going to happen to several of the main characters that were just left "hanging" at the end! I had some real unanswered qu...more

This is an intense installment in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series.

Sadie adores Pete but can't ignore that their is a certain chemistry with Eric, the Clyde to her Bonnie. So when Pete bows out gracefully, and Eric seems to be in trouble, Sadie flies to Miami to see if she can help. She walks into a far larger mess than she imagined possible, Eric is in overhead, and drags Sadie in with him.

Once again, I feel Josi S. Kilpack has left the cozy of culinary cozies far behind... and I...more

There are few characters I’ve encountered in my 30 years of voracious reading who have struck me as being more real and more genuine than Sadie Hoffmiller. I caught myself sitting down to write her an email the other day, as I had tried a new recipe that I was sure she would enjoy. Imagine my dismay when I remembered she’s a fictional character! But apart from brilliant characterization, Kilpack weaves a mystery that truly delights. Compelling, and full of delicious plot twists, I have not read...more

Fun read. If you have been reading books that make you think and just need one that is kind of a non-thinking kind of book, this is it. Josi Kilpack is much like Mary Higgins Clark. After you have read a couple of her books, you have all the bones and just need to add the flesh. That being said, she is very entertaining and you want to finish the book.
Sadie Hoffmiller is a single, fiftyish year old woman who can't seem to stay out of the middle of murder and mayhem. She has a steady boyfriend, P...more

This series of books is way to easy to get wrapped up in and not get anything else done until you finish each book. Sadie Hoffmiller is not your typical neighbor. She is a fantastic cook and she shares the receipes in the books. But Sadie has a very inquisitive nature and has a wonderful knack for getting mixed up in all kinds of things, murder being at the top of the list. She may be a suspect or amateur detective, or she may be the victim of a crime. You can get the first seven books now, but...more

While I savored English Trifle, I labored through Key Lime Pie. What could possibly be the difference you ask? While English Trifle was very much a murder mystery, Key Lime Pie felt more like chick lit with a dash of intrigue. I often found myself wishing Sadie would stop worrying about her heart and start working the case. For that reason, the story felt slow to me. However, while this failed to entice my mystery loving palette, I do think it's perfect for fans of contemporary women's literatur...more

I read this genre for a book club. It was pretty good. It pulled me out of my normal young adult action / romance stuff. It's a murder mystery with the main character's age 50+. I didn't know books could be written about people over 35. Ha ha ha

It got quite exciting, which I love, and was loaded with yummy recipes. I made the sausage gravy over biscuits and crock pot chicken. That was actually really, really fun. It made me smile to eat the food the people were eating in the book. Nice touch Mrs...more

This book is the best book in the series, especially since the main characters travel from Colorado to Florida to help locate a girl (Eric's daughter Megan) who had been missing for three years. Sadie wasn't sure about what she should do, since others believed her to be a pesky, nosy busybody. It proves to be a trip where Sadie learns who the other people are in Eric's life, how some of them are the way they are, and discovers a terrifying fact about one of Eric's good friends. It also shows tha...more

This was a light, just OK book. It is sort of cute how Josi Kilpack weaves her recipes into her mystery, however it is hard to believe when Sadie is being threatened with death that her focus is on not having the chance to sample the local food. Right in the midst of questioning a suspect she hauls off into his kitchen and stirs up the remoulade sauce to pour over the cole slaw. While being roughed up by the criminal all she can think of is key lime pie. It sort of reminds me of how the kids in...more

Josie Kilpack has done it again! Sadie is back and this time she has a love interest and around that interest lies a mystery just begging to be solved with Sadie's help.

This is my second book of the "Culinary Mysteries" by Mrs. Kilpack and the more I read of this series, the more I want! I love Sadie's character. She is a middle aged busy body who is also a clean freak and a culinary snob. Well, maybe snob is a bit harsh, but she is one that critiques the food she eats and many times decides she...more

#4 in Sadie Hoffmiller "culinary mystery" series

Liked this story better possibly because the main character admits to being an over-the-top busybody and isn't quite as annoying! On the positive side: great recipes, PG rating (no sex, foul language) and a quick, easy read that you can put down and pick-up later without getting lost. That being said, this story ends abruptly with holes that leave several questions unanswered that seem unlikely to be resolved in the next book and there continue to...more

As Sadie is finishing up her community service sentence (after her arrest in Devil's Food Cake), her friend Eric rushes to Florida to because of new information regarding his missing daughter. Sadie soon finds herself involved in another investigation. As is typically Sadie, she gets into trouble, but also uncovers information the police can never find. She's also conflicted about her friendship with Eric and her relationship with Pete and she has an obsession with finding a good Key Lime Pie wh...more

Loved this book. I think Sadie is hilarious, even if she may be a little over the top. I'm really excited to try some of the recipes mentioned. Anyways..I only have a few complaints about the book...1-it ended kind of abruptly and I have some unanswered questions (who knows, maybe they will be answered in the next book??) 2-some characters had 2 plus names. This isn't really the authors fault, it's mostly my forgetful memory. It's hard for me to keep one name straight for each character but give...more

was not a fan. it felt like a cheaply done rip off of Joanne Fluke......even the same title as one of Joannes, minus the word "murder" at the end. The love interest is between two very different guys..... one is even a cop, just like mike. And the main character Sadie..... similar age range, build, and status........but sooo annoying. She can't pull off the unsuspecting murder magnet the way Hannah can. Sigh.If I am going to read the basic same story, I will definitely be sticking with Joanne, a...more

I think this was my favorite of the series....so far. Sadie is still a busybody, but tries to scale it back a bit.

Sadie's friend, Eric, has a missing daughter. When he receives a tip about her, the craziness begins--this time in Florida.

Sadie is a character with a lot of guts and bravery. She gets into such precarious situations and always gets out of them in crazy ways. I was total guessing about who did it until the end, which to me, is a good mystery. And one of the best things? Some more am...more
Ems (Ems Reviews Books)
When I first started this series, I wasn't impressed. I'm a huge fan of the Hannah Swensen books by JoAnne Fluke, and these seemed like a cheap knockoff. There are so many of the same plot elements: slightly overweight protagonist who finds herself immersed in murder investigations, police antagonization, a love triangle, and of course, delicious recipes. I had a hard time overlooking that in the first couple of books, but as I've gone on, I've had a better time of it. I quite enjoyed this one....more

Exquisite!

Sadie Hoffmiller and her insatiable curiosity lands her in the middle of another mystery, one that means life or death, and hunger or starvation. Sadie finds herself in Florida--trying to help a friend, but also trying to discover what really happened to his daughter. What she finds is a web of lies, cover-ups, and of course--food.

The plot is great, the setting delicious, and the characters are as fun as ever as Josi ramps up the series with a romantic twist I never saw coming.

Loved it...more

I'm the third of nine children born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah. I met my husband in high-school--well, he wasn't my husband then, just the cute guy in weight training with the permed mullet--and we married in 1993. I wrote my first book while on bed rest with my third child and have gone on to publish 18 novels, the most recent being part of The Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series.
