A. E. Roman's Chico Santana makes an interesting new protagonist—and the story in Chinatown Angel is delightfully twisted. Unfortunately, though, the overabundance of under-developed characters turns an otherwise captivating story into a bewildering jumble.

Alex
I loved almost everything about this book. The NY setting, the edgy noir feeling, the well-crafted plot and dimensional characters. There were a couple of things that confused me and that might need a second read. Overall, though, I thought it was very impressive.

(C+) 65% | Almost Satisfactory
Notes: Characters have no life to them. It's all about underscoring urban ethnic and racial heterogeneity, and not much else.

This book has an interesting premise and Roman obviously knows the bron, but in includes every noir cliche.
