Tohru and the Sohmas are spending time at the Sohma family's summerhouse, but it's not all fun in the sun on this little trip. UGH!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE SOME OF THE STUFF THAT HAPPENED IN THIS VOLUME!!! IT UPSETS ME SO MUCH TO SEE CRAP LIKE THIS HAPPENING! Okay, so we could basically blame all that is happening on Akito. That little spoiled, no good, self-centered, little schmuck needs to get his eyes stabbed out. He needs to be beaten into a bloody pulp! He needs to get shot multiple times, thrown off an 18th story building, and then run over by a pogo stick! That's how bad he pissed me off in this volume! I have no idea...more
In volume ten of Fruits Basket, everything is normal until YUKI TELLS TOHRU THAT HE LOVES HER HOLY SHIT WHAT WILL HAPPEN NOW?!?!?!
It’s very dramatic, kids, although tempered with a certain air of insanity. Yuki is both incapable of speaking like a normal person (“I might have known all along… in the corner of my mind… what would happen if I opened the lid,” he says to a totally confused Tohru. “It’s so simple. What I have to do… what I should do… maybe it’s difficult because it’s so simple.” Jes...more

All right. All right. I'm not usually bowled over enough by manga to give them five stars, but I finally have to for this volume. Takaya is *good* at slowly revealing details about the characters and connections between them. (view spoiler)...more
Okay, I have finally read the tenth volume of the “Fruits Basket” series by Natsuki Takaya and I really enjoyed this volume! In this volume, Tohru and the Sohma family all go to the Sohmas’ family summerhouse and are having a great time having fun, however their fun comes to an abrupt halt when *gasps* Akito comes for a surprise visit! Meanwhile, we are also introduced to Hatori’s side of the story about what happened between his lost lover and himself. Will Hatori ever find his true happiness a...more
It's all fun in the sun at the summerhouse when this volume begins. There's some adorable talk between Tohru and all the boys. Yuki even compliments her swimsuit (wink, wink). It's hilarious the way she has them wrapped around her finger and doesn't even know it. There's more complaining from the most annoying kid in the world. You guessed it! Hiro Sohma. I'm so glad Kisa is there to shut him up some of the time.

I enjoyed the first and last chapters in this book; the main story was not my favorite. I guess I just could not invest myself in Mayu's perspective.
But as far as the last sentence in the book, FINALLY.
We've all be waiting for it.
I almost didn't want him to say it because it's so cliche, but at the same time, I WAS definitely waiting for it.
So there.
At last.
After like ten books of waiting.

I really dislike when translations utilize phrases specific to the American culture when the culture in the story is NOT American. For example, in this volume someone uses the phrase "I plead the fifth." As that is referencing the U.S. Constitution, a Japanese person would never use that phrase. I would much rather the true culture is highlighted and the translator attempted to find a more fitting phrase.

Shigure plays manipulator, this time presumably for the good of Hattori and Mayuko (but probably mostly because he likes to mess with people). Kisa and Hiro try to grow up a bit, and Akito mostly spoils everything by descending unannounced on the gang at the Sohma summer home. More hinting that this summer is ZOMG meaningful, and a HUGE declaration from Yuki right at the end (more on that with the review of the next volume).

In this installment, Yuki, Momiji, Tohru, and Kyo go on a summer vacation to the Sohma summer house. Momiji invites everyone and soon they are joined by Shigure, Kisa, Hiro, Haru, and oddly enough, Akito. We learn more about Hatori's past, and the school teacher that has a crush on him. We also learn about Yuki's true feelings for Tohru and that Akito has plans for all the zodiac members. This installment leaves many open ends and it leads to the one thing I really want to know: What is Akito? A...more
I been having pretty lukewarm feelings in rereading this series, but I guess as a disclaimer I have to say that even at the height of Fruits Basket Fever, I was pretty much at normal temperature. It's cute for sure but there are things about the story that never really resonated with me now and even back then.
I know this is probably a blasphemous thing to say, but I've never really liked Tohru as a character. She feels underdeveloped and flat to me. You get a peek of depth in this volume, but th...more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES!!!It's about a poor girl (Tohru) Gets taken in by the Sohma family. which the Sohma family has vengeful Chinese zodiac animal posses they Sohma family. ( they can be there selfs it's not like the spirits are controlling them) but every time they are touched by the opposite gender they turn into the zodiac animals. Shigure, turns into a dog (again they have control of their selves not the spirits) Kyo turn into a cat and something else but he keeps that a secret, and...more

I hate Akito so much... out of all the happiness and joy in this volume he just has to come along and be such a f****** asshole!!!
and as for the relationship thingy going on, I'm starting to hate the way Yuki can't seem to talk normally. I think Yuki told Tohru some meaningful things- probably about him really liking her and Kyo seemed to know what Tohru was thinking the whole time. This volume has left me pretty stunned, I'm sure it's going to get even better.

...the sohmas and tohru are still frolicking happily at the summer home: swimming, catching stag beetles (??), fighting, so much fun! then we find out that the kids' homeroom teacher, mayu, was best friends with kana, hatori's ex-girlfriend. she had her own thing for hatori, which shigure picked up on. he decided to cheer her up by dating her, but we know how that ends. hatori comes to pick up a book and sees maru for the first time in a long time.

ENDED IN A CLIFFHANGER!!! why?? i had it on a friday and i was going to check the 11th one on monday but i couldn't cuz i was sick!!!! Anyways back to what i was saying this book was very funny, and the whole soma family is enjoying the beach, and Akito appear again...
It doesn’t seem like a lot happened, but we learn a lot more about Hatori, and that he wasn’t always so aloof. Seeing Shigure with a girlfriend is weird, and something that I don’t think of. It was interesting seeing Akito again, since he so rarely makes an actual appearance. And we have the typical fan art, which is always pretty impressive, and we learn about the year of the tiger. And we have all the side notes and the character list at the beginning.
So it has all your standard stuff in it....more

I enjoy the story, but the way the word balloons are done I still have a little trouble figuring out who is saying what.
