STILETTOS & SCOUNDRELS by Laina Turner-Molaski is an interesting chick lit/suspense/mystery/romance.It has a large cast of characters each one with their own insight into the problems, and their own way of thinking. It is well written with details and style. This is a quirky tale of murder, mystery, fashion, chick lit spin, climbing the corporate ladder, sensual harassment by an employer, scandals, and adventure. Presley has adventures abound,is fired from her job after refusing to slept with her boss a More...

Stilettos & Scoundrels by Laina Turner-Molaski is a quirky tale with all of the essentials: murder, mystery and great fashion! Presley Thurman is just your average single female trying to make her way up the corporate ladder while looking the best she possibly can. So when her boss fires her after she refuses his advances, she naturally prepares thinking of ways she can have a career and her shoe collection at the same time. Quickly being offered a job for a newspaper, Presley heads to her small More...

Stiletos & Scoundrels gave me a chuckle in a lot of the spots. The main character, Presley, yes her mother had a fondness for Elvis, is a zany type of character. She gets fired from her job in the big city of Chicago where where she lives. She loves the windy city and lives just blocks away from the busy downtown shopping area. She has a passion for shoes, Starbucks and snooping. I think it was a good thing she got fired because she is wasting her talents in my opinion being a HR director. She t More...

Laina Turner-Molaski has got some GREAT writing skills. I was really surprised to see how good her writing really was. She blends the perfect amount of suspense with the perfect amount of chick lit, and turns out a book for her readers that is totally engaging!

Presley Thurman is a character I can relate to in SO many ways! She LOVES shoes. So do I! I loved that part of the story. But, anyway, she's just wanting to live her life for herself, and her boss. Well, he thinks that she shou More...

Fashionista meets shopaholic meets amateur sleuth. Stilettos & Scoundrels is a story that is tons of fun, sassy, quirky and will leave the reader laughing as they race through the pages to see what happens next and solve the mystery.

Presley Thurman thought that she was on the path to her destiny, fulfilling her life and career desires. That is until one day she had enough with her boss's advances and chooses to stand her ground and not let him bully her into staying at her job (his u More...

Cover

The stiletto is a great representation of what's inside. It personifies the women who wear them and is an important piece of the murder.

Plot

It was wonderful to read a mystery/suspense novel that really kept you in suspense until the last moment. Just when I thought I had figured out "who-done-it," the story revealed something that made me second-guess myself ... and I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the criminal by the middle of a novel. A wonderful and quirky who dun it with a chick lit spin! I fell in love with Presley Thurman from page one and couldn't wait to hear all about her adventures. The large cast of characters was hard at times to remember who was linked with whom, but once it was all settled I couldn't find out who was the killer and why they committed the murder. I had my thoughts and debated a few times, but in the end she got me and I couldn't wait to find out all the details!

The one thing that I didn't More...

Presley Thurman has recently been fired from her job - which has left her free to follow her dream of writing. Her friend offers her a job writing for his magazine. Her first assignment is to interview a well-known senator from her own hometown and when that senator is murdered, Presley sets out to find a killer first out of a need to keep her job and then out of curiosity. Presley is determined to solve the mystery until she meets Cooper Sands, head of the senator's security. Cooper was a one-t More...

Okay, I'm not going to spend too much time on this review because, frankly, I didn't really enjoy this book. I felt that Presley was a spoiled brat who always got her way (or thought she should). I think she was supposed to come across more "sassy", but to me she just seemed ridiculous. The character reminded me a little of Rebecca Bloomwood from the Shopaholic books - although I enjoyed those books, so I'm not sure what the problem was with this one.

There were also A LOT of More...

Loved the plot and mystery involved and the story definitely kept moving and kept you guessing as to what happened. At times though the pace and writing was just a little bit awkward. While mostly the story was told from Presley point of view, there were a couple of instances when for just a paragraph you were in the head of one of the other characters.

Presley as a character had good and bad points. Shes fun, friendly, determined but at times a bit whiny and too caught up in what shes More...

This was a cozy suspense mystery with just a bit of light bickering romance thrown in to keep us wondering...will they or won't they? It was the first time I read a book by this author, however that may be because this is her first fiction book. For a first book it was an okay book to read. It was fun and had some funny parts. But sometimes Presley got on my nerves, always having to have her own way, to the point of just get over it and grow up!!! But being of the older generation I think the More...

Presley is a Senior Human Resource Manager at McLaughlin Industries. Right in the beginning of the book, she gets fired from her job. She definitely has to find some kind of work since she loves shoes and shopping! As you can see from these quotes:

"Enough reflecting, she said to herself, unlocking her door. There were more pressing things to worry about--like finding a new job. The bills wouldn't pay themselves, and she didn't have a sugar daddy in her back pocket. Steppi More...

Stilettos & Scoundrels had a good murder mystery plot but unfortunately, the prose was horrible. Past tense were used at the wrong places, the story was over-narrated and too many “blah, blah, blah”s and “whatever”s were used. Furthermore, although Presley is the heroine in the story, I found her quite a turn-off, mean jerk. She lied, thought too much of herself, was rude, impatient and generally too big-mouthed. For the sake of the wonderfully plotted mystery, I found Stilettos & Scoundrels a b More...

Stilettos and Scoundrels pulled me in with it's fun title and equally enticing cover. After reading the blurb (which you will find below) I knew I had to check it out. Laina weaves a splendid tale of a small town girl returning home to find that the statuses of long ago high school chums have changed dramatically as adults. There is the former hunk who is not so hunk, and the bad boy turned cop. In fact technically there are two of those I suppose.

what a great book we get to follow the story of Presley who is yes named after Elvis, after leaving her hr job seconds before being canned she travels home to interview a Senator only to find him dead within hours of their meeting. Everyone seems to have secrets hidden from Presley who hasn't been home in 10 years. Anyone from her closest friends to those who went in the military together to old flames professing love to her. Many suspects lying around doing everything they can to keep the tr More...

Although the language was coarse this book was a pretty decent read. I found that the mystery of it did keep me guessing until the very end. The storyline, however was a little choppy without a lot of character embellishment of anyone but the main character. All side characters, and thus any and all suspects, are hard to see or understand because we get to know them so little. The main character was someone I found hard to like. I can see where there are those that could relate to her, but More...

I want to be honest and let you know I am the author of this book. Of course I have good things to say about it but I also have a lot of constructive feedback for myself. As my first fiction novel I made a lot of mistakes that as I am working on the sequel to this book, Handbags and Hooligans, I hope to do better.

This was more chick lit than a mystery but it was a fun read. It was sometimes confusing when most of the characters were involved in the same scene. Presley was the quirkiest sleuth I've ever met, but nothing seemed to phase her. She stuck her nose in everywhere it didn't belong but didn't seem to care. You couldn't help but like her. I laughed quite a few times at her antics and couldn't believe she would get away with her actions. I w More...
