Allegra Fairweather (Allegra Fairweather Mystery #1)
by
Janni Nell (Goodreads Author)
Allegra Fairweather here. Paranormal investigator. Got problems with specters? Shapeshifters? I'm the woman to call. Just don't call me a Ghostbuster. The last guy who did that ended up flat on his back with my boot at his throat.
With my 99.5% success rate, solving the mystery of a bleeding rose that has sprung up on the shores of Loch Furness should have been an easy gig

Allegra Fairweather is a paranormal investigator, and although she has no special powers of her own save for a big toe that itches when something spooky is near, she still manages to rock a 99.5% success rate for solving cases (including one involving a female big foot with a shoe fetish!). Allegra is assisted by her guardian angel, Casper. Well, assisted isn’t the best word, since he’s not allowed to actually help her solve cases, but he is there to keep her alive when she finds herself in one...more

I'm a little torn by this book. On one hand, it was quite a light, fluffy read - perfect for reading at the bus stop every morning. On the other hand, I had no confidence in Allegra's abilities. Then, there is the romance element that seemed too heavy-handed and out of place, but then there's the relief of it not having a HEA ending.

Allegra Fairweather: Paranormal Investigator was a fun romp in paranormal Scotland. I liked the book well enough, and I'd give it 3 1/2 stars, but I can't do that at Goodreads. The only reasons it's not a 4-star book is that sometimes the action fell a little flat and sometimes details were lacking. I was amused by the main character, though she's so far outside of the typical paranormal female lead that it was hard to keep her description in mind. I enjoyed the tingling in her big toe when she...more
I quite enjoyed this novel. I am not normally a fan of paranormal mysteries, but the premise of Allegra Fairweather interested me.
Allegra investigates spooks, shifters, and other things that go bump in the night. She has no paranormal abilities of her own, other than a toe that tingles when something is occcuring. She does have one handy addition though- a guardian angel named Casper. Casper is attoning for sins while he was alive by guarding women from mortal danger. There is some interesting s...more

Allegra Fairweather is the investigator to call when something supernatural is going on. In Allegra Fairweather: Paranormal Investigator by Janni Nell, Allegra is invited to Scotland to see the rare Dedfield Rose, said to only bloom when death is going to happen soon. Soon after Allegra arrives a mauled dead body appears near the Rose and Allegra must figure out how the person was killed and stop the killer before they strike again.

Allegra Fairweather isn't your run-of-the-mill ghostbuster. In fact, if you call her that to her face, you had better be prepared to protect yourself from serious bodily harm. Standing well over 6 feet tall with short, spiky, bright red hair and a big toe that tingles when something paranormal is near, Allegra and her drop-dead-gorgeous guardian angel Casper chase down supernatural bad guys and solve paranormal mysteries all over the world.

My first thought after finishing this book? Allegra kicks some behind! She's funny. She's quick on her feet. She's a paranormal investigator for goodness sake! What more could you ask for? Allegra makes this book and I just loved every minute of her journey.

Allegra Fairweather is a paranormal investigator who has traveled to Scotland to see a paranormal rose that seems to be causing trouble in a small loch village. What else would a paranormal investigator be doing? Well, she is in Scotland, and discovers that--oh mi gosh!--her employer is HOT. I think Douglas is kind of slimy, and shorter than her! It doesn't work for him like it does for Henry from Blood Ties.

I think I found another kick ass series that I am going to follow. However the downfall is that it’s a e-book, so when I had to stop reading, I was sad I couldn’t take it with me on the train. But besides that I loved it.
Allegra Fairweather, isn’t that name so fun and it fits the girl so good, is a twenty five year old girl who has a unusual job. Yep that’s right, she’s a paranormal investigator, that tries to solve problems most people run far away from. Her step dad, a senator and mother deci...more

Allegra is a detective. A detective of paranormal happenings. Her most recent case takes her to Scotland where a bleeding rose has been discovered. While this may sound odd enough, we get to throw in a banshee, two dead bodies, a ghost, a shapeshifter, and Allegra's own guardian angel.
At first I thought the author was going to have a hard time trying to tie all of these strange happenings up into one cohesive story, but she did an excellent job. I was surprised and excited at the events as Alleg...more

Allegra Fairweather:Paranormal Investigator is a very promising debut set in modern day Scotland. Allegra is a globe trotting investigator of paranormal events and is hired to investigate the appearance of a rose which has historically preceded disasters such as the Black Plague.
When Allegra arrives in Scotland, she discovers other strange happenings apart from the rose-deaths and disappearances coming one after the other in the village. With the help of her own guardian angel, Casper, she is k...more

I really liked the sound of the premise for Allegra Fairweather: Paranormal Investigator. A heroine with attitude, a hot guy or two and a variety of otherworld creatures. As a fan of Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy genres it's an appealing combination.
Allegra, as she mentions a bit too often, is a paranormal investigator and she investigates, well, the paranormal. In this case, Allegra is almost over run with phenomena, a Deddflower harbinging mass destruction, a wailing Banshee, a vengeful gho...more

Allegra Fairweather is a cross between Stephanie Plum* and early Anita Blake**; she's a smart, sassy investigator who's not afraid of the unknown. With her guardian angel at her side, Allegra gets into several dangerous scrapes, but manages to discover the reason behind the murders in the small town of Loch Furness.
This is a fun and light read that I'd recommend to any romance fan and any one who likes urban fantasy.

I'm pretty sure that being rescued by your Guardian Angel (Casper?!) from every TSTL situation that you can get yourself into doesn't actually constitute a plot.
Can't recommend this one - couldn't even finish it - I really hoped Casper would just show up too late and give us all a break.
And, speaking purely as Scottish reader, DO BETTER RESEARCH Ms Nell - much better research - lest you end up winning the title of "The most book most inappropriately set in Scotland with the worst dialogue and th...more

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book, but I did quite enjoy it for a quick, light read.
Allegra is a paranormal investigator and when she hears about the appearance of the Denfield Rose in Scotland and immediately flies over to this tiny village near the Lochs. Soon after her arrival, the whole village hears the wails of a banshee and they all know that there will be a death soon enough and how right they were, only the body disappears to be replaced by a pile of fish. This book, with an eye-catching cover, got off to a bumpy start but about halfway through it picked up.
Allegra travels to Scotland when a Deddflower or Bleeding Rose, a harbinger of tragedy is found to be growing on the shore of a loch. She's called in to investigate in order to prevent whatever disaster is about to befall the small village.
Allegra was likeable but Casper the guardian angel stole the show. He's tortured soul and mystery man all rolled into one plus he's a golden hunk of a warr...more

Let me tell you right up front that I think this book is only available in e-book edition. I enjoyed this one, but it was really nothing more than a fun, easy read; a good way to pass a couple of afternoons. What I liked best, I think was the setting. I would love to travel to Scotland. Forget the handsome men in kilts, I'm jealous of Allegra just for the scenery. And it was very much a part of the story, so that's good.

I’m pretty used to the first person narrative and some of my favourite series are from the first person perspective, so while reading this book I couldn’t help comparing it to them.
What I found frustrating was that Casper (Allegra's guardian angel and love interest), seemed to have an interesting back story. We're told a little bit but not much, and I really wanted to know more about him and his life as a mortal. This is where I thought the first person...more

Allegra Faitweather is the first book by debut author Janni Nell. Allegra gets a call to head over to Scotland to help solve the case of the bleeding rose. The rose usually means that some kind of large disaster is coming, and Allegra wants to try to stop whatever that disaster may be.
Fighting against the unknown, she encounters a shrieking banshee that calls out the deaths of two of the town folk. Then, an old ghost look...more

Allegra Fairweather: Paranormal Investigator is a paranormal mystery set in Scotland. Allegra takes jobs all over the world investigating paranormal phenomena. She's very good at her job, despite the fact that she doesn't seem to have any paranormal ability of her own beyond gut instinct and a toe that tingles when she senses supernatural activity.

I debated to put this on my Mystery list or my list for weird stuff, I ended up choosing Mystery since it was more that despite some of the characters being angels and selkies. I enjoyed the mystery of if, I'm on a roll for calling the bad guys here... go me! I didn't enjoy the heroine's character that much, I didn't like the way she pressured and teased the angel she had the hots for, and I felt that she could have been a lot smarter about things. Her reputation was portrayed as as super solver...more

A fast, enjoyable read. The mystery is nicely set up and moves along in an even pace with developements at the right moment in my opinion. The writing is easy to get into, Allegra is a likeable and humorous protagonist and there are some very fun and interesting side characters. The romance is a little bit too easy, I had loved to see some more depth to it, but as the setup lends itself for many more sequels I think I might get my wish.
This book started out great, lulled in the middle and then ended in a bang. I enjoyed the story, but was disappointed in the ending. Shouldn't the "girl" get the guy in the end. Of course, maybe the story just isn't finished yet. :-)
I like Allegra as a character. I love her guardian angel. And like hearing the brief story of the Leith and the selkies.

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this or not.I am not a fan of Paranormal shows or movies and had never read a book like this.
But this book has taught me to read more of these books. Allegra is a girl who can take care of herself..aslong as Casper steps in when things are really bad!
Give this book a try. I don't think it will let you down!

It was an okay read for the first 50 pages, then it got a bit better. I actually liked the ending.
All in all I had some problems with the book, as the characters took a lot of the happenings too light-hearted (in my opinion) and I couldn't really befriend Allegra. Also, there were too many little characters who confused me a lot.
I'm not sure if I'm going to read the second novel in this series...

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed Allegra's voice. She's tough but vulnerable, and she tries her hardest for her clients. Loved the inclusion of Casper, the friendly guardian angel, and their dilemma. Will be going onto book 2 :)
