It's interesting to read and see pictures of Joseph Pilates original series of exercises. The talk of "savages" perfect physiques, the evils of masturbation and some other questionable-to-this-21st-century-reader passages raised eyebrows, but considering the two pamphlets that comprise this book were originally published in 1934 and 1945 I'm able to overlook those few quotes and appreciate the clearly-detailed instructions.
The beginnings.....
Actual writings of Joseph Pilates from 1930-1940s. Utterly fascinating if you are a devotee of Pilates or a gym rat. It's a call to arm, so to speak, where he discusses the need for exercise to cope with the demands of "Modern Life" and live with vitality.
