This manga has a cool concept, but the execution was not my liking. Mostly because Emanon didn't feel like a person who has the memory of 3 billions years and the first interactions between the protagonist and Emanon felt contrived, but the artworks was so beautiful it almost made me forgive the flaws of this book.

(Pursuing my goal of reading a bit of every type of manga.) Memories of Emanon (Omoide Emanon) is a masterpiece manga about a girl whose memories preserve intact the 3-billion history of all creatures it descends from. (Manga type: mystical, psychological, romance.) Overall, beautiful, really beautiful artwork, a somewhat intriguing story, and a strong female character.

Artwork: Truly great! There's slice-of-life, photo-realistic quality on display. There's also manga at its best, with movie-like

Extremely brief yet poignantly so. At its heart Memories of Emanon is a brilliant premise with a modern spin on the immortal cliché. Yet it has subtle nuances of love and spirituality. It is the type of tale that one could recommend to those who do not regularly read the Manga/GN genre and still be able to guarantee their satisfaction. It speaks of depth and soul with out a wordiness that compromises its structure.

Excellent. Especially Tsuruta's art, which is clean and expressive. Judging by his previous work Forget-me-not, Tsuruta likes drawing long-haired girls in jeans; it's no wonder the heroines in both bear a strong resemblance to each other. But whereas Mariel often looked bored and jaded, Enamon is bright-eyed, freckled and startlingly wise. She is both serious and lighthearted and you can see it in her face. I love the way Tsuruta draws eyes--he fills in the irises with light and radial patterns. ...more

Imagine being a young adult and having the memories of your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and so forth back to the beginning of life itself. 3 billions years. Kept in one single mind. What would your role be, your reason for existence, would you tire of it?

"Some experiences are better off forgotten than remembered."

Quick thoughts: Beautifully realized, thought provoking story about memory and the fleeting moments of life.

The story is the essence of the manga. It's intellectual and emotional. The artwork is also pretty well done. This one definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Beautiful story! I like her name Emanon, which is "no name" spelled backwards. I really love the uniqueness of the concept. Nice art too!
