Mistral's Kiss (Meredith Gentry #5)
I am Princess Meredith, heir to a throne of faerie. My day job, once upon a time, was as a private detective in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, princess has now become a full-time occupation.
My aunt, Queen Andais, will have it no other way. And so I am virtually a prisoner in faerie–trapped here with some of the realm’s most beautiful men to serve as my bodyguards . . . and my...more

All my reviews for the books of this series are starting to sound like a broken record! But I have to keep saying that there is sooo much going on in these books and soooo many interesting things....I just can't get enough!
In this book, Meredith is still at the Unseelie Court and they {hopefully} have the crimes solved from the last book but the sithen is calling to Meredith. She has the Goddess working through her to bring it back to life ~ through things she does and yes, through ...more

Amazingly enough, I enjoyed MISTRAL'S KISS. After the farce that has become the Anita Blake series, I was worried that the Meredith Gentry series would inevitably take the same downhill dive. Thankfully, that wasn't the case.
This book is enjoyable, and does actually contain a plot. There are some negatives, of course, the first of which is the length of the book itself--or, more accurately, the lack of length. At only 212 pages, this story is 100+ pages shorter than the other books ...more

These books are entertaining, plain and simple. You have a barage of colourful men with fascinating eyes, rather not so bad sex scenes and Merry who is quite cool.
But there are some flaws.
These books keep getting smaller and smaller! There's absolutely no reason why Mistral's Kiss and Lick of Frost couldn't have been combined into one book. It's deeply annoying the way the story is being dragged out.
Repetative phrases. How many times does this writer say "masculine"...more

Yeah, this book isn't what I thought it would be from reading the jacket; basically a parallel worlds/fantasy with clashing/dueling races, it begins with what is basically a six-chapter sex scene. I know it says that she "spends most of her time bedding her immortal sidhe royal guardsmen", but I wasn't expecting it to be so detailed or extensive, or the bulk of the plot! From the summary one would expect to find a fairly interesting storyline, but it just isn't there. What is there ...more
I really love the whole story line of Princess Meradith NicEssus and her struggles to become queen of the Unseelie court but I'm getting really tired of chapter after chapter of sex scenes. It really inhibits plot development and Ms. Hamilton spends a lot of pages catching the reader who might not have read the previous books in the series up. Maybe if the books weren't so short and had less sex, we might actually get somewhere in the story. Granted, there's nothing wrong with an occasional love...more
I’m not entirely sure why I can’t stop reading Laurell K. Hamilton’s books, but they’re like cake frosting… I always want more, but it’s so very, very bad for me. For example, I’m completely underwhelmed by this book, yet I just added the two she will be releasing this year to my wish list.
The best thing I can say about this book is that there’s some resolution at the end (which is more than I could say about the two prior). The rest of it is pretty much sex and faerie politics. Real...more

This book was supposed to take place the day after where things left off in the last book. Actually, come to think of it, all kinds of things happened in a mere span of 2 days, spread across 3 books (from book #3 to this one, #5). Quite frankly, I was quite disappointed with this instalment, because not only did the plot made no further progress, things didn’t really move anywhere in the space of about 300 pages.

This book is the fifth book in the Meredith Gentry series by Laurell Hamilton. I am really not sure why I read this series. I think part of the reason why is that I have always been intrigued by the Unseelie and Seelie fairy courts. This series is one of the best ones for delving deep into traditional-type fairy culture. Unfortunately a lot of this series is also devoted to sex. Lots and lots of sex. Which I guess is okay since the whole point of the series is for Merry to have a heir. I don't t...more
This book was too short for a hardback. It also doesn't stand on its own very well. MISTRAL'S KISS should have been the back end of the last book. I bought it because a) I find what Laurell is doing with the re-establishing of true Faerie in modern America interesting, b) I got it at a deep discount, and c) Merry Gentry is one of my guilty pleasures. This series has more sex in it than I care for (although I tried to reconstruct several scenes about the rebirth of various things in Faerie withou...more
Like one of LKH's other books (Danse Macabre), I tried several times to read this book all of the way through. I kept picking it up & putting it down, then trying to read it again later with more determination. I just couldn't do it because the plot just wasn't there.
This book picks up at the end of the previous book (the incredibly slow moving Stroke of Midnight), with Merry & her men trying to get out of the sithern. Still. It also takes place pretty much over one day, which gets ...more

Meredith Gentry #5: Mistral's Kiss, by Laurell K. Hamilton
"Mistral's Kiss" is a slim volume in the Meredith Gentry series, and feels like a novella instead of a novel. More a collection of scenes than a flowing story, the book finally gets Merry and her men out of the sithen, where they have spent the last two books. But that move comes at the very end of the book, and before then we are given quite a few sex scenes, the first starting a mere 25 pages in.

I think by page 100 there had only been 6 pages of plot, and all the rest were sex. Meredith seems to be trying to save fairie, one orgasm at a time. I do enjoy the brief glimpses of politics (especially vis-à-vis Merry's Uncle, the King of the Seelie Court) but I was disappointed that his actions in this novel were not explained at all. For all Merry's Aunt (the Queen of the Unseelie Court) seems to have everyone in her court terrorized, we nev...more

I really do not want anyone to think I am a prude, but I am afraid that if I criticize a book for having explicit descriptions of sex that is exactly how I will come off and that is my main criticism of this book. I assure you that it does not offend me; it does not embarrass me; it is perfectly okay with me if anyone in the world -- and that includes very young children -- reads this kind of thing. The problem is that I am simply not interested in it. Oh, back when I was about fourteen years ol...more
Now, having just blasted Hamilton's A Stroke of Midnight, I have to admit that I enjoyed this book, despite it having some of the same problems as the previous book in this series. The repetitive bits of descriptions given verbatim throughout the story are still there. There are plenty of errors (Rhys left his gun in the bedroom with his clothes but *whoops!* now a couple of pages later he has his gun! Makes you wonder where he pulled that sucker from, doesn't it?) But there's more plot in this ...more
I'm a big fan of Laurell K Hamilton and have read every Merry Gentry book back to back. LKH has managed to build up a detailed and rich world with likeable and intense characters that you actually care for, which I find is essential for any long running series.

Totally, entirely, and utterly lame book. I don't think more than a single page was concerned with anything other than meaningless sex. I read it in literally 15 minutes. I'm getting tired of Laurell K Hamilton and I think (other than rereading her older books that aren't trashy wannabe erotica) I'm done. Total yawner.
"This book did not has much action as the pervious books in the series. It is more about Merry bring fairies back to its glory and magic than her life and trying to become queen. Not that big events did not happen in this book, such as the return of the wild hunt, and the alliance made solid between Merry and Sholto.

I couldn't really find a plot to this book at all. Having not read any of the other books in this series, I was at a complete loss to work out what the whole idea of the book was. If it wasn't for the description on the back of the book I would have no idea that Meredith was trying to get pregnant, and was willing to have sex with pretty much anyone to achieve it. The whole story seemed to concern having sex in one place, then going to another place and having sex with some other guy, then havin...more
I started this book after reading and loving the 1 st 4 in the series. But the problem is this, the books seem to be losing sight of the plot( Princess Meridith to become pregnant and ascend the throne) The books just progressively have become not much more than porn. I will probably give this book another chance at a later date because I love the plot, characters and the fantasy of fairies. I really want to know where all this goes. But right now, I am just not in the mood to wade through the p...more
I got this book at the library yesterday. I guess I didn't realize that it was the 5th book in a series so... i didn't really know what was going on. There seems to be a trend in Laurell K Hamilton's books where a)the heroine's physical description is similar to the author's b) the heroine has a HAREM of dudes that she nails on a regular basis c)the heroine is just on the safe side of kinky/rough in the sack.

This story was shorter than the others, and felt like is should have been a couple of chapters added to the last book. This story was mainly two very long discription of sex scenes followed by a battle, I don’t mind sex in my books, but so much conversation going on during the sex! Sheesh, if my hubby chatted that much while "doing the deed", I'd have to slap him LOL.

When A Stroke of Midnight left off, Meredith and company are still holed up in the underground fairy mound of the Unseelie Court, with the princess still trying to get pregnant. Mistral, one of the queen's guards, is on temporary loan to Meredith after the recent attempt on her life. The powers that they stir up affect some serious changes in the land of faerie, none of which make Queen Andais happy. Sholto, King of the Sluagh, comes to terms with Merry and awakens the Wild Hunt. Again, the ...more
Okay the sex is getting a bit too much. I think half the book was sex this time. And if I thought it was strange in the book before, well this one definitely topped the last one for odd sex.
The one thing about the lots of sex is that the other scenes are brisk. There isn't too much bandying about. The author keeps the story moving so she can get to her next sex scene.
I can only wonder what will happen to the books once the princess is pregnant. I hope the part that I enjoy ...more

Ok before I review the book I need to say something....
I am so tired of hearing all the negative reviews about this series and the Anita Blake series. The negative reviews say that there is too much sex, not enough plot, the book took place in only a day, not enough action.... Well, if you hate it so much why are you still reading it, I mean this is the fifth book of the series. After the first book you should of had an idea that the series was going to have A LOT to do with sex. I mean s...more

Borrowed the Audio CD from Fairfax County Library to pass the time while commuting, and for a "re-read" lead-up to the release of "Swallowing Darkness" last week. On the whole, this book was the s*x-laden intro to "A Lick of Frost;" the two books should have been combined into a full-length volume. I was very disappointed by "Mistral's Kiss." It was laden with s*x, but got comparatively implausible pretty quickly. This is all supposed to have happened ...more

I'm unsure of what to write about this book. There were parts I really liked and other parts I wasn't happy with. I think Laurell Hamilton is a conflicted writer that creates wonderful worlds for all of us to live in but I'm not sure that she truly knows where she wants to go with this series.
I disagree with some of the other reviewers because I like that this book is like the television show, 24 with Kiefer Sutherland. I feel like Laurell is getting into her characters and their de...more

Oh, LKH. At least in the Merry Gentry series we've come to expect erotica dressed up as fantasy. Filled with pretty men, not-so-pretty sex, and exponentially growing powers, it really does read like a fifteen-year-old's wish-fulfillment. I was really bothered by Merry's interaction with Sholto, in particular.
Spoilers ahead... It's gross to sleep with him when he has tentacles, but him being practically flayed is much better? EW, LKH, really. I'd have preferred the tentacles. And yes...more

This book was better than Stroke of Midnight, the previous book.
The sex was tedious out of 22 chapters at least three more likely five chapters were sex scenes. Admittedly, the concept in the series is that the main character sidhe Princess Meredith has to get pregnant become heir to the Unseelie court, and she has sex with all of her guards at her very evil and sadistic aunt's orders. If she doesn't, her cousin Cel who is crazier and more sadistic than her aunt will become heir ...more

She got me again. Laurell K. Hamilton sucked me in again. The first time, it was her Anita Blake series. I loved Anita - strong, stubborn, feisty. I stopped reading in disgust after Narcissus In Chains. I don't mind reading sex. I do mind when a book is 300 pages long and 250 pages is spent on sex and 50 on actual plot. Watching Anita morph from Necromancer and Vampire Hunter into a quivering sex-starved bed-hopper absolutely turned me off of the series. So it was only with the recommend...more
