What can I say except that researching this book was great fun and took me to corners of the country I had not visited in years. The bulk of the work was done just before Cambodia's hell roads were surfaced and when small towns in the middle of nowhere still offered all the glamor, poignancy and violence of some emerging outpost in the US in the late 19th century.
