2.5 - A lot of these poems are really great and that's saying a lot since neither Julia nor I are especially partial to poetry. But let's face it everyone, some of them sucked. I have to admit that I just don't get a 4 line poem. What's the poem. That's not to say a good one like that has never been written but really?

Prelutsky has selected poems that focus on school in this funny and terrific collection of poetry. The poems are written by thirteen poets and are filled with child appeal and an understanding of the mind of a child. Jack Prelutsky edits a selection of fun poems in his collection There's No Place Like School. It includes Kenn Nesbitt, Kalli Dakos, Carol Diggory Shields -- a great volume to dip in and out of.
Cute book with good humor. My daughter, who is a voracious reader, says she struggles with poetry, so we're going to be reading more like this.

I expected more from some of my favorite children's poets. The Kenn Nesbitt poems were as great as I thought they should be. The rest were just ok.
18 poems by mulitple authors in a variety of verse styles all dealing with school: bus rides, lunch, recess, class, etc.
Lively and fun, the bold illustrations add to the poems
doesn't seem up to par for Prelutsky.

Jack Prelutsky is an American poet. He attended New York public schools, and later the High School of Music and Art and Hunter College.
