This book is about an average boy named Sena who runs errands for his sister all the time. Sena had just got into a new high school with a new start without any friend so his sister convinced him to go to clubs and in the end the football club was the one best suited for him. Since Sena had been running a lot of errands he had superb speed and it really gave him the advantage with the football team for a runner.
I can connect this to many people because everyone will do one thing they wont like...more

Sena was a normal kid at first, but Hiruma found out he has superior legs. Sena ran super fast for a normal highschooler. Sena had a record of 4.4 seconds for a 40 yard dash. Sena use to be an errand boy for bullies, but now he's going to be a team's running back. He finally has real friends and teammates now. He's not just a boy that get picks on. Sena's now the Ace of Devil Bats high school football team. He will help the team go to Christmas bowl and play Oujou White Knights.

This series currently holds the title of My Mostest Favoritest Manga. I've grown up in a household where Autumn Saturdays are already booked as college football days. Football has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and the fact that I have actually found a graphic novel that goes along with that very theme is incredible.
The artwork in this series starts out a little... inexperienced, but rest assured it improves dramatically. The characters from Sena to Shin are so filled with...more

Sport stories always have the played out David vs. Goliath thing. Where the main characters must face off against colossal and seemingly impossible opponents. All sports stories follow this pattern to the point that it's predictable. What makes Eyeshield 21 stand out from the rest is the charming characters and the strategy factor that applies to american football. While I won't go into details, I can assure you that the characters will draw you into the story regardless of your knowledge of the...more

i picked this up at the library because someone had left it on a table, and let's be honest, it's a sports manga about football! i do love football.

what a great manga! the characters are nicely defined and the likeable ones are really likeable while the not-likeable ones are positively demonic. and i always thought that i was just bad at reading manga when i couldn't follow the action sequences in martial arts-based stories. turns out all you need to know is to understand the game. it was refres...more

a very unrealistic book... that makes you want to just keep trying! As unrealistic a book maybe it has some truth in it. So connect this book to reality and it will be more realistic... because every legend has some truth and reality in it!
Keep on reading to know what I am talking about :)
But know that every man in this book can be found in reality... (I am writing this after finishing the book, but throughout the whole book I felt the same way.
If you want to reply to my message then I ask that...more

This is a Japanese manga about a high-school team playing American football in Japan. They're not really any good (American football isn't popular in Japan), and their ace in the hole is their phenomenally fast, short and skinny team manager, who secretly leaves the sidelines in order to suit up (complete with tinted eyeshield to hide his face) and play as the enigmatic Eyeshield 21.

I don't blame you if you're cracking up now. It's a garden-variety sports manga; the appeal comes from seeing the...more

After seeing the awful font and vaguely stiff word choice of the Naruto manga, I didn't have very high hopes for the English language Eyeshield.

I saw it at the library, and pretty much guzzled it down. The art is as beautiful and well executed as the first time I saw it in the original Japanese a year or so ago. The translation flows smoothly, and the typographer chose a nice, standard font that was inoffensive.

The story is a hilarious tale about high school boys' strength and dreams playing Am...more

American football is brutal sport, just like wrestling which I hate. It's better than wrestling though, at least, the players have body protectors. The players even put something on their crotches to protect their bits and it is just eww.

People could die playing this game, seriously!

I disliked American football, until now, thus I didn't understand it.

But somehow, Riichiro Inagaki, through his manga, could make me understand that American football was not that bad. I even understand a little of...more

I had first read this book when our manga section was beginning to grow. I had read most of the others and I was in no mood to read a novel. I had picked this one hoping it was to my taste.
I completely fell in love with the book once I finished the first part. I had misjugde the cover. Seeing a guy with elf ears and a crazy hair do, though that's in all manga, made me questioned the book.
It was crazy funny, and, though in a extreme way, related well with teens. It pushed you to give it your all,...more

4.5 stars actually!
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this manga at all since im not really into sports (though i did enjoy slam dunk) but i was really surprised! Its extremely hilarious and i wasnt bored by the more technical sporty parts. Highly recommended!

This is a sport one that is actuall y worth reading. Y'know how, like, all sport mangas suck? Crimson Hero, Tennis Prince, Slam Dunk? Yeah. They all suck. Desperately. But this one is about football, and it's freakin' hilarious. The arts awesome, too.

Alright, I checked this as read.. because I pretty much have every book to this collection. It's weird but I never thought football could be so interesting. o: Maybe it's just because Hiruma is so uberly awesome. He's the best quarterback EVER.

I'd give this book itself 3 stars, but the wholes series is a definite 5. It's undoubtedly the best full manga series I've ever read and is actually better if you don't know anything about football. I've read it four times!

I loved it, but the ending was kinda disappointing. I guess Amefuto season was ending in Japan at that time and it pushed the manga-ka to wrap up the story fast.

Recommended still.

If you love sports manga then you should read this series. It is hilarious. Has nice imagery and an inspiering story. But if you just want a good laugh then this series is for you.

Sports stories aren't really my thing, and most especially football. Still, this was entertaining, and the characters were very engaging. I liked it.

Wow, another sport-manga I'm liking so much :)
The main character, Sena, is rather typical: an average kid growing to a good athlete. Having it said so, in this manga, it's not annoying at all.
And it rather amused me that I found myself liking almost all of the character in this manga (and as for some characters that I hated, eventually as the story goes, I stopped hating them, LOL ^^'). To say it in short: they are loveable, really.

Overall it's a well-built story (with nice artwork too).
