I really enjoyed reading this book. Dr. Jelinek bases the book on us his own personal experience with MS as well as providing us with an excellent medical resource on this debilitating auto immune disease that strikes so many people of all ages. The book focus in more on the aspect of prevention and slowing of the disease process. His relationship with his Mother, who also lived and died from MS was very touching. He gives us a very personal and up close view of that struggle, which motivated hi ...more

This book can definitely help those recently diagnosed, it has lots of information about the drugs, diets, life style changes and personal experiences. After reading this I can say that if you do not mind about the detailed studies behind the general advice, it is enough to only read the overview section of each chapter, or even only the Recommendation chapter. It saves you a lot of time. In my opinion the chapters about drugs, especially interferon, were very harsh and may cause some readers an ...more

This should be compulsory reading for anyone newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I have finished reading it from cover to cover for the second time and have dipped into it many times in between. Professor Jelinek makes a well constructed and thoroughly researched case for his ideas that MS is predominantly a 'lifestyle' disease and that a radical overhaul of your lifestyle can make a big difference to its progression and effect on your life. It is an uplifting and motivating read for anyone ...more

Prof Jelinek has written a very thorough book on both natural and medical recommendations for controlling the progressive disease, multiple sclerosis.

Jelinek wrote this book close to his heart - his mother was disabled by the disease and actually committed suicide after many years of suffering. Jelinek was also diagnosed over 10 years ago. He has taken charge, however, and has not faced any further debilitation.

The books discusses diet very thoroughly. He was inspired by the MS diet put into pla

This is a fantastic book! It helped me understand MS and all of my treatment options. There is much that can be done with lifestyle and other choices. I'm looking forward to the new and updated version of this book (Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis: The Evidence-Based 7 Step Recovery Program) when it comes out later this year.

A good overview of current conventional and alternative therapies for multiple sclerosis. The author, a physician and MS patient himself, advocates an extreme Vegan diet for control of MS relapses but he also discusses all the options currently available and the research behind them.

Very interesting and informative read on MS.
I felt some things were pretty biased against certian types of meds, probably a reflection on the authors own experiences as well as the literature he reviewed. That did make my take the whole book with a pinch of salt.

Generally it is good advise all round but could be a bit vaugue and cliched in parts. The best part for me was the focus on getting the reader to take respnsibility for their own health, get involved, not to be a passive patient, a victi

Good read

One can adapt a lot of good ideas from the book, however I felt the book was a bit outdated on the research. The author did not even mention the toxicity of sugar on autoimmune system.

This book includes a personal story of MS, a succinct update on current treatments for the disease, and hope for how one can still have a good life. I wanted to know some information about MS, and I think this book did a good job of giving me that information.
