A slow read; I wanted to pause after every sentence to think and meditate! Very enjoyable, very insightful. I'm going to let this book sink in for a while hen probably re-read.

What a treasure trove of inspiration, Buddhist philosophy and spiritual insight, in only 130 pages! Thích Nhất Hạnh writes simply but sprinkles delightful portions of spiritual knowledge for you to take onwards after completing this little literary journey.

This was my first Thich Nhat Hahn book, and I must say--I was really impressed. He takes Buddhist teachings and makes them relatable to people who live in our chaotic, 21st century world but who are looking for something a little deeper. And the way to really tap into your life is to be present in the moment (as challenging as that can be). He mentioned a metaphor that stuck with use compost to grow healthy and strong. thich nhat hanh makes Buddhism accessible and enjoyable to read. This book serves as a great reminder to live in and savor each moment fully. makes me wish i had a Sangha locally that i could work with.

"Some people live as though they are already dead. There are people moving around us who are consumed by their past, terrified of their future, and stuck in their anger and jealousy. They are not alive; they are just walking corpses. If you look around yourself with mindfulness, you will see people going around like zombies. I have a hard time giving this a "rating". I think there are some books that just aren't rate-able, because it's not about how well they're written, etc. That said, I feel like I only absorbed about 10% of what You Are Here had to offer, as I listened to it on CD going to and from work. To say that I was intrigued by what I did grasp is an understatement, and there are certainly ideas and ways of thinking here that will hang with me. I want to take Thích Nhất Hạnh's teachings with me wherever I go. Another insightful book from the Zen Buddhist monk. “Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves - slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.” Thích Nhất Hạnh's writings are fluid and highly accessible. There's nothing particularly new here- it's the same old "breathing in, I know that I am breathing in, breathing out, I know that I am breathing out."
For all that, it never gets old for me. I need, constantly, to be reminded to be mindful, to be reminded that now, this very moment, is all I ever have.

I'm not at all religious, but the doctrine of mindfulness speaks deeply to me and is one I strive, unsuccessfully, to practice. This little gem of a book is a bell bringing me back to my present mom

this book was one big repetition. thich nhat hanh could have written a paragraph instead of a book, and we would have gotten the same information out of it because honestly he just kept saying the same sentences over and over again and this thing just dragged on and on.
inbreaths, outbreaths, flowers being part of the cosmos. it just got old super fast.
plus, he talked so much about mindfulness and walking meditation but didn't really discuss at all how to do these. this was a real gimmick. not w

In the world, there is suffering and it is not always easy; this is life and to think otherwise is simplistic. But mindfulness comes in and instills in us the excellent attributes of understanding and compassion. We communicate compassion and live in a state of inter being-being part of one another and being there for each other.
This kind of books you can read and re-read and then reread again and still find yourself getting something new every time you read it. Getting nourished and powered up

This is a really beautiful book about mindfulness, meditation, finding peace in all aspects and ages of life and what it is to suffer/live through/remove oneself or others from suffering. I was really liking this book all the way through, thinking that even though it can be called simple and "self-helpy", it was really helping me to look at the world more positively, question my sometimes cloudy perceptions, and begin to practice some practical methods to alleviate stress and to relax. I had picked this up a few months ago and stopped reading for some reason I forgot. Let me say that I enjoyed this book a great deal, but I think you have to be in the right frame of mind for it. If you haven't been reading a lot of self-helpy, zentastic books, you might pick this up and be like "WTF."

I like to see what subjects books I read are assigned and if it has any subjects on the back cover; this is Buddhism. I've read a couple zen books and I can't remember if they had similar subjects,

A very interesting little book written by Thich Nhat Hanh, a renowned Zen monk, author and expert on meditation.

I'd recommend this book not only to people who'd like to learn something about Buddhism, but also to everyone who's struggling with the topics of life, death and eternity. In very simple, yet meaningful words, Thích Nhất Hạnh explained me a lot about the topics I was thinking about.
Even though I'm not Buddhist myself, or maybe precisely because of that, this book was very valuable to me. It's a very short read and I'm pretty sure I'll read it at leas one more time to even better understand shown

It is just as simple and moving of a message as you can get. You are here! yes, you are. But living in the present is not something that you can wrap your brain on easily. Going into reading this book, I was expecting a direct message. Thich Nhat Hanh approached the readers by giving a lot of background information. This information was not captivating which is why it took me so long to read and understand the message. Not until the end of the book did I really gain anything from this book. It teaches you how to be present by stating your presences. The practices might be more helpful for you but for me I only give it a 2 out of 5.

What do I think about this book?
Everything I read from Thich Nhat Hanh is thought-provoking and inspirational. I am not a Buddist but I always learn something from his teachings. For me, the big take-away from this book is that we have everything we need already inside of us. And, the same is true for the people around us. A simple concept and one we already know, but a good reminder to approach the day with the awareness of that truth.

This is an amazing book, one of my favorites of all time. The clarity with which Thich Nhat Hanh explains how to apply mindfulness to life is incredible. He gives very practical advice, accompanied by truly inspired thoughts about life. Some of the words in this book are the emotional equivalent of having a drink of ice water on a steaming hot day. The words provide instant relief from the seeming hardships of life... I like reading excerpts of this book to friends going through difficulties...

I really enjoyed the first two chapters of this book, then it all started to sound a bit like a broken record to me. Don't get me wrong - I love what he had to say, but after a while, it started to parody itself. "Breath in, I'm writing another chapter of repetitive inspiring monologue, Exhale, I smile..." Just wasn't my cup of chai.

Thích Nhất Hạnh's "You Are Here" is an elegant example of simplicity -- both in terms of his writing/communicating and in his many conveyances of ways in which we can be grounded to the now.

A book such as his should definitely be included in your spiritual library.
