This is a very well written layout of what it means to be a mentor and a leader. Thanks to the wisdom passed on by Tony Dungy, former Coach of the Indianapolis Colts, you get a great perspective of first-hand mentoring.

There is so much advice and experience crammed into this book, not solely from Tony Dungy, but from the people who mentored him as well and from the scripture and stories he references. It's nice for anyone who is in a position of influence to others.

This book seemed like it could’ve been very interesting and very educational. For some reason though the book screamed “BUSINESS SELF-HELP” even though the author made it clear that a mentor leader does not need to be in a leadership position. I probably should’ve gave the book more of a chance but it was so hard to get interested in. It probably took me about 2-3 days just to read 11 pages!
I liked the topic of becoming a mentor leader on purpose to those around you even if you’re not in a lead...more

I listened to this book during my Christmas commuting... Absolutely loved it. I'm in the process of listening for the second time. I enjoyed to truth that all people have a platform for mentoring... And the truths that we are making an impact, so why not make it an intentional impact. Action steps are realistic, helpful, and I enjoyed the Biblical references, for Christ is the ultimate Mentor...

A good read on owning your opportunity to add value to the lives of others. His whole leadership style is built on relationships, other-orientation and Christian principles and he really drives home the importance of everyone having something to teach. A really positive book.

I thought this was a really good book on leadership. It focused on relationships, and hit home that you never know when, where or how you'll make an impact on someone's life, so take advantage of your moments and interactions with others, whether larger or small. As a volunteer leader in a professional society where you have to lead without any real authority (you definitely can't fire a volunteer), I found some good tips here, but those tips will also carry over to my day job. One of the things...more

Dungy is a Christian leader who is sharing his principles of how to lead. He's led teams and coaching staffs. His principles focus on building the capabilities of his players/staff not on building his own success. I found much to apply to the team I lead at work.

Great for those who are leading organizations, teams and pretty much anything. It is morals and values packed. His methods, even though based on sports, are applicable to any environment where leadership skills are required.

While I'm sure a true sports fan would appreciate and understand all the sports analogies Dungy uses, this is honestly one of the best books on leadership that I have ever read. Even if you aren't big on sports, there is an enormous amount of really great leadership material in here.

Great perspectives on what it truly means to lead. It isn't always about being the most successful but making differences in the lives around you. We can all be leaders if we have character and integrity.

started a little slow and felt like this was a common sense surface treatment
Toward the end, when the book shared more specific things leaders can do, I was more interested. I did like the Scripture tie-ins, too.

Tony Dungy gives a warm, spirit led outlook on leadership. He focuses on leaders not being concerned with personal gain but on helping others find God's direction in their lives... God's Best!
Julie
I really enjoyed the way Dungy interweaved the personal, professional and religious in this book on leadership. His insights on how to treat people resonate in today's world of shallow connections.

Great read for those who choose to be LEADERS, and not BOSSES or MANAGERS. All of us in life have had mentor's who made a positive impression on our life. How can you be a better mentor?

My kind of leader. The big picture is to help another person no matter what. Tony is definitely my kind of leader. Michael Vick and many others are truly bless to have contacted Tony!

a leadership book worth reading, focusing on attitudes, motivation, and behavior from a Christian perspective...of all the leadership books I've read, this mirrors my own ideas most closely

Great book! Mr. Dungy has a great perspective on life and our purpose for being here. (I strongly recommend that everyone reads his book "Uncommon".) The Mentor Leader does a great job helping leaders shape their efforts in a meaningful way in order to provide others with opportunities of significance to help shape their lives with meaningful purpose and true accomplishments. I bought this book for 11 different coaches that I work with. It is a must have for anyone involved in leadership or ment...more

Another great book by Dungy..his life, family, career is based on his faith in Christ. If you are not sports minded, this book is still a great read for everyone.

I use some of the principles in this book when mentoring to young people and college students....Tony Dungy is an inspiration to all in a cruel world..
Frode
It was ok. His personal experiences illustrate his points, and he made some interesting points, but it was not a great book for me.
Bev
This is the kind of leadership that promotes winning attitudes and should be adopted by every family, organization, and workplace.
Janet
this book would make for an excellent men's bible study. I found it interesting with many biblical references and sound advice.
Penny
Great book for business leaders as well as how to achieve goals in your personal life. Very inspirational.
Karen
Loved this book. Great for a professional book group. It includes so much that is applicable to life.
Matthew Callis
Ok book based on some of his lessons learned along the way. No really new ideas on leadership.
Stephen Bishop
This is a MUST READ for anyone in leadership. Great principles throughout the book!

"So we press on, with faith in things unseen, knowing that God walks with us and before us, guiding our steps as we use every opportunity to change lives around us...

At the end of it all, if even one life is better because we lived, our lives have significance."
Brian
I really enjoyed this book. It was difficult to read at times, but the wisdom that Mr. Dungy imparts in the pages is invaluable. This is a welcome addition to the many leadership books out there and in many ways it is in a category of it's own. Most leadership books don't focus on serving others and that is the thing that makes this book worth the read. I wish more people taught these leadership principles. This is definitely worth reading more than once.
Zach
Coach Dungy shares a nice mix of biblical passages and gridiron tales to reinforce his career-long passion of being an effective mentor to those around him.
Jason Joy
Anyone who is in a place of leadership should read this book. The emphasis is on pouring your life into others to produce leadership abilities in them. Dungy gives examples of mentor leaders throughout sports as well as Biblical examples. Much Scripture is used to support the principles he promotes.
