During the summer of 1920 Cicely Mary Barker kept a journal of her time in Storrington, it was during this time she felt most inspired by her fairy friends, and so decided to entrust her journal to The British Faerie Folklore Society for preservation. It is this journal we are presented with here.

Storrington is a place of tranquillity surrounded by beauty and wild flowers. And as Cicely Mary Barker discovered, it is also surrounded by fairies. Day after day Cicely discovers more and more evidenc...more

My five-year-old granddaughter can't get enough of this book, even though the back cover states it is recommended for ages 6+. She said "I like this book" then the next time said "I really like this book". Subsequent times together we'd go through the book, taking little notes out of envelopes, unfurling the map, reading the back of postcards, touching the fairy wing and fairy dust. Next my granddaughter said "I LOVE this book" and then "I want this book." I first wanted to share it with a frien...more

When Edgar and I walked into Exclusive Books, there was a pile of books with this treasure on the top. I immediately grabbed it (loving anything that looks as intriguing as a bottle filled with beads) and Edgar didn't hestitate buying it for me!
Do fairies exist? ... well, if you think it, I guess it has to be! ... 'though, I'm sure any child would tell you they definitely do. This book is one that tries to convince, giving "evidence" that they do, even providing a little view of them in the bac...more

A gift from my mother-in-law who likes to indulge my love of all things fae and magical.

It's a cute little book. It's been a long time since I actually read the book and I don't remember anything about the actual story.

Most of the book's charm is in the delightful illustrations and little flaps and things to discover. It's perfect to sit and browse on a lazy day or to sit and explore it with children.
The only drawback (and why this book doesn't receive 5 stars) is the font chosen for the story....more

Absolutely beautiful!!! I love this book. The artwork is beautiful and it is very interesting to read. The front cover is one of the most prettiest covers I have. Everyone who has seen it has admired it.

It so fun to read all the little notes, looking at the pictures and diary.

This is a cute journal style scrap book similar to the pressed faerie book by Brian Froud only it this one is written by Cicely Mary Barker the artist who did the beautiful illustrations of the flower faeries. It is an interactive style book with lots of little notes you can open, envelopes, cards, stamps etc. It was very enchanting, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a wonderful little treasure of a book! Admittedly, I bought it more for the artwork and all the wonderful little secrets tucked away in it than I did for the story. I love the scrapbook-diary feel to it. Every page is lovely and full of cool things to look at and discover! I will definitely treasure this book for years to come. (:

Aha, I had forgotten all about this one--WANT!! Sweet and magical, full of ideas, a lovely inspiration for everyone who journals, collages, draws in margins or otherwise destroys and rips up...erm...ALTERS books. Popups, flip-overs and little envelopes full of 'seekrits'=^^=

While my daughter loves every single detail, I was more enamored with the book's construction and artwork. It's more like a mind-activity book, with letters and pockets and ephemera and all sorts of details that push the readers' imagination while tickline their eyes.

When I was little I absolutely ADORED (I use that word too much) this book! The story is mysterious, the pop outs are cool, the little packets of glitter made me happy, and I over all loved it. I also loved her other books filled with poems and drawings.

Cicely Barker's drawings are absolutely charming! Occasionally her handwriting - the words are in cursive - is hard for me to read. Her "journal" is very persuasive. I should like to believe in fairies.

Such a wonderful book!!!!! I get lost in the pages, and I love all the pictures. I love that it's a diary and it's just so enchanting. This book is magical and I will always cherish it.

SO CUTE.
Very awesome idea, I love the little inserts along the way.
I would have given it a 5 star review if it weren't for the font. Sometimes hard to read.

Cicely Mary Barker was the illustrator who created the famous Flower Fairies; those ethereal smiling children with butterfly wings. As a child she was influenced by the works of the illustrator Kate Greenaway, whom she assiduously copied in her formative years. Her principal influence, however, was the artwork of the Pre-Raphaelites.
