For an elf, the worst curse in the world is blindness. Alix Skyeyes learned that the hard way. Scorned from birth for his innate handicap, he lives as a pariah in the fae elf palace and survives only due to his acute senses and battle skills. Having lost faith in their entire race, Alix is surprised when a dark elf approaches him in a hesitant attempt of friendship.

...okay, the cover's really weird.

I was really, really surprised by this one. It was good. (Hyacinth's generally a rather...pulpy writer, isn't xe?)

The story's told in media res, but it's very effectively worked. There are little discrepancies here and there, but they're not forgotten plot bunnies. I called out several things through the course of the book, but the way it was all resolved made sense.

I love the way Hyacinth worked the timeline. You get almost a sense of convergence of the past an...more

With this book Scarlet Hyacinth has achieved two results: first she proves she has matured from that first book I read, that had potential but that maybe too often fell into the traps for first time published authors, and second she proves also that, even if you are writing an “elven” story this doesn’t mean that your characters have to be beautiful and ethereal men dressed in frilly garments.

On the contrary, if not for the author who tells us these men are elves, aside for the pointed ears and...more

It was a little funked out for me how it went between two POV's in a first person setting. See if I can explain this right without botching it all up since it's a first for me reading one like this... It would sort of repeat the events when it changed the character's thinking and parts repeated but in their words. Make sense? I don't think I do LOL

Anyhow, it's a very tragic love story. Two men deeply in love torn apart, taunted by others, discriminated against. There's pain, there's sorrow, ther...more

not part of a series; better than below mentioned

typical Scarlet Hyacinth serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Scarlet Hyacinth? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).

out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing:

The author had an interesting way of telling the story with journal entries from both main characters. There were several problems with the way it was done though. One was that in much of the book, we read the exact same thing twice, just with separate reactions. The other was that I found it hard to believe that two people would remember an event exactly the same, with conversation written in exact wording, etc. Another issue was that although the book was separated into journal entries from th...more

ok ok, an advice...give us a view on what happens, let us be the judge. Don't do the: "I'm a sad sad panda...i mean blind poet elf thing. I'm so sad and tragic, no one will hear my sorrow..."

ok, 1 we don't know you
2 we don't feel you
3 we have no idea what you are referring to so that whole sentence is basically wasted,

Gave up... got tired of reading the same facts twice... The story seems good, but the way sha decided to write was not for me. One of them tells how they meet and how he waked on the next day, then you get back because the other will tell how they meet - again, for his perspective.
