I love Sci-Fi Romances and I thought the blurb sounded interesting.
The story is about a gal who has been kidnapped by a reptilian like alien race who are looking for females compatible with their males. Ariel takes a breath of relief to discover that humans are not compatible, but only long enough to discover that they will not be returning her home to earth. They have decided to give her as a prize to one of their mining slaves a race much like humans, but bigger and more brutish looking.

I have to say that this is the worst written book I have ever read... and I have read some real trash. The sentences take the word "simple" to a whole new level. I couldn't help laughing when about a quatre of the way through the book Ariel says she hasn't been fed in days and Ral's only reply is "I hate them" in regards to their captures (excuse me if I didn't pay enough attention to remember their names). How much like a petulant child is that? "I hate them", no expansion, no indication to why...more
predictable. boring. poor description of sex scenes. character development is next to none. buildup of tension, love, relationship, etc is zilch.
the world creation was ok. might give additional books a chance since this book sets up the possibility of another few - there's potential, but this book felt like it needed to be fleshed out a bit more.
Also, last criticism - all this talk of love, and that is happens so quickly and for no apparent reason other than hot sex, was just too hard to swall...more

The first book in the sci-fi romance Zorn Warriors series by Laurann Dohner. A quick read. It might have been a little better if the author had developed the story and characters a little more. Definitely a spicy read but nothing too kinky or anything for my personal taste.

I'm not sure how to rate this one.
It was ....

Ariel is taken from earth as a slave and taken to space ( Anzon - I believe) to mate with the males because they had a lack of women. Only, she wasn't 'compatible' to breed with the Anzons so they decided to give her to the miners who were also taken from their land.
Ral is super duper strong and usually wins all battles. ( They fight and whoever wins - among the miners- gets to keep the women who aren't compatible with the Anzons) gos...more

"She is mine. Never roar at her again, Father." - Ral

I swear this book gave me a good laugh here and there.
Our male protagonist Ral kind of reminds me the guy from Conan the barbarian

His possessive, protective and insatiable. First time we see him, his fighting others of his kind to win her and then carries her off to his chamber caveman style! Ral, is a cutie (I don't know if I'm using this word out of context). He's really curious about Ariel and is eager to learn the ways of pleasing a woman...more

This one for me was ok. I didn't hate it but I didn't fall in love with it either. Over all the story is of a human kidnapped and taken to another world and falling in love with a new species of a man who won her in a fight as a prize was. Ok. That is basically what happened. The theme behind the story was a great idea. I just wish the story didn't move so fast.
Example: She is kidnapped and finds herself with a ugly race of alien and then given to another species as a prize and she is scared sh...more

The writing in this book is comical. It's the sci-fi version of Me, Tarzan; You Jane.: "He led her to table. It was crowded. He put down the water and sat. He spread his thighs." And: "You are little. You would not survive long. They would hurt you. You are mine. You and I are in love. Do you understand?" Um - yeah, I understand. I'm pretty sure a third-grader would understand this level of writing. I get why the author wrote dialogue in this manner. But there's no justification for the non-dial...more
Why oh WHY did I read this?!
If I could sum up the entire book in one sentence it would be: "Me Tarzan, you Jane. Uga uga!"
SPOILERS AHEAD:
The hero is basically a Neanderthal, manhandling the heroine and pretty much raping her the first time they meet. He immediately decides she is his forever and won't let her go back to Earth.
The heroine is an empty vessel... we don't really know anything about her. She submits to the man immediately, accepts his violent ways and considers herself in love in no...more

This book, quite frankly, was a hot mess. The writing was clunky and awful, with a lot of authorial hand-waving in place of character development. I was glad it was a short read, because I don't think I could have handled it otherwise.
So yeah. Ariel was captured on Earth and kept as a slave. Since she can't breed with the aliens that captured her, they make the Zorn they also keep as slaves fight for her. Ral, a leader among his people, wins the fight and decides to keep Ariel for himself? Why?...more
Who knew aliens could be hot? One long haired, tanned skinned alien named Ral certainly is. Yummy. I am suppose to be doing a review not drooling. So moving on.
In Ral's Woman we first start off with Ariel being trapped in a cave. She has been kidnapped from Earth by the alien race Anzon for the sole purpose of breeding with the alien race. Apparently when it comes to Anzon's their are more men than women and they need to breed with outsiders otherwise their race will die out. Turns out humans are...more

I'm giving this book a two because I feel bad giving it a one. Throughout the book I wasn't sure if the author was writing it a joke because there was just so much flawed logic. Maybe it's just because I'm a sci-fi fan but this whole captured human for sex/breeding thing was for me just stupid. Not that the concept is bad... but the writing of it was just so text book odvious as to be humorous. Mayber the author hasn't read...more

OK, where do I start with this book? I downloaded this because Goodreads INSISTED I would love it. I should have learned my lesson on "recommendations" from Netflix, who once insisted I would love this French movie that had a girl who stuck earthworms in her vagina while on the side of the road (I'm not even kidding, it was called "A Real Young Girl" and you can Wiki the plot- it even mentions the earthworms). But, no. Goodreads says it's good reads and I blindly (or perhaps blondely) follow lik...more

The Anzon Race finds her incompatible for breeding so she becomes the price for the Zorn Aliens. Zorns are another alien race that were captured by the Anzon's and taken back to their planet as slaves.

This was a cute little read if you are into sweet 'cave men'.
Ariel was kidnapped from Earth by the Anzons, a dying race in search of breeding-compatible females.
Because she wasn't compatible with their race, they decided 'give' her to the man who could win her in a fighting contest.
Ral was also a captive of the Anzons along with others of his race who were taken from their hunting planet and put to work as miners. Ral was the Crown Prince of his world and was larger and stronger th...more

I have to admit that my weakness for sexy sci-fi is something that I'll probably never outgrow. This book hit my sexy sci-fi spot (so to speak) and made me very happy. While there were a few things that made me cringe a little (Ral's syntax, upon occasion, is painfully atrocious), overall the book was fun and sexy and I'm already plotting ways to get my hands on the next installments.

A very quick, semi-delicious read. I say that because the concept is great, but the execution was a little weak, particularly in the way the characters felt the need to explain the story to each other - we're on a ship, we're aliens, we're humans, blah blah - rather than the author describing these details through storytelling. So 3 stars only for what could have been a much stonger read.
I loved the characters of Ral and Ariel, though, and look forward to more of this series.

I have been on a kick to read something different than my usual reads and so I've been reading a lot of sci-fi romance lately. It's been kind of hit and miss mostly and miss more than not, but I actually enjoyed Ral's Woman by Laurann Dohner.
Yes, it was short. Yes, there is instant love (which is annoying) between the heroine Ariel and hero Ral. Yes, there is a bit of forced seduction (but it was done well). And yes, it wasn't the best writing, but even after all that I still really enjoyed it....more

This book is about 100 or so pages, so it is fairly short.
So I may have mentioned this before that I have different standards for erotica then I do for Romance. I expect that erotica will be more heavy on the steamy and to some extent less so on the actual story. So even keeping that in mind, I was a bit disappointed with the story aspect of this book. It kind of felt incomplete maybe is the right word. Although to be fair there was a huge communication barrier for part of this book. There was...more

There were good and bad points about this book. The most obvious good is Ral, who is uber alpha, snaps an enemy's neck with his hands, but is gentle and patient with "his woman", his "bound." I really liked how he committed to her immediately and stayed true to his commitment later, when they return to his home planet. The worldbuilding was also interesting. In this book, we visit not one but two foreign planets, and they each have unique characteristics.

I want to be forgiving to Ms. Dohner for this book. I really do. I get that this is her very first published work. I get that it is a romance novel. I find some of her other novels - the New Species books - to be rather entertaining, easy reads. They're not great, but good enough.
I really thought about giving this book 2 stars, but mostly because I do like the author, and I like her more current work. But frankly, this book just pissed me off. Alot. I'm not even quite sure how or why I finished...more

I hate to admit this but I really enjoy these books they are a bit cheesy in places. Ariel is abducted from earth by an alien race called Anzons as they are looking breeding partners as their race is dying. Ariel is not compatiable and so she is handed over to the mine workers (in this case another species was abducted as well) they are Zorn Warriors big and very alpha male. Ral is their leader and he fights everyone but usually distributes the women between the most deserving workers but this t...more

We meet Ral who fights for a woman - his woman - whom has mesmirized him. Its love at first site .

I really love Laurann Dohners Breed series and thought Id try some of her other work as well. I must say I did enjoy this. ;)

I was not too happy with this one...

I will not be continuing this series. So I can't in good faith say that I would recommend this read.
The plot as well as the dialogue was simple. So simple that it's laughable. There was nothing enthralling to me about this story. The only good thing is that its really short. And thank God for that cos other wise I would not have finished it.
It tries to come off as erotic but it doesn't even scratch the surface of sexy. And the course it takes to be able to op...more

This book was so-so. The fact that I continued reading it made me give it 3 stars.
The good:
The guy on the cover is hot.
Ral sounds hot.
This book takes place in space and on another planet
If you like uber-alpha males, this Ral meets that criteria
The bad:
This has to be the most simplistically written book I have ever read in my life. "Ral turned turned to frown at Ariel. She met his eyes. He pointed to the bedroom. Pain hot through Ariel hard." I feel like that could have been one or two well con...more
