If you had to give America a voice, it’s been said more than once, that voice would be Willie Nelson’s. For more than fifty years, he’s taken the stuff of his life-the good and the bad-and made from it a body of work that has become a permanent part of our musical heritage and kept us company through the good and the bad of our own lives. Long before he became famous as a ...more

I just began reading this today. I bought it at Magers & Quinn yesterday for $8.99, hardcover. IT IS GOING TO BE AMAZING. It is full of awesome old photographs of baby Willie as well as this passage:

My first public appearance was in Brooken, Texas. We were at the annual Brooken Homecoming, with all-day singing and dinner on the ground. i was five years old. My poem was given to me by Mama Nelson to recite at the singing and performing part of "singing and dinner on the ground."...more

Good ol' Willie. Country Willie. Shotgun Willie. The red headed stranger. This guy has written more good songs than several of his contemporaries and still seems to be going strong. His songs are incredible. "Bloody Mary Morning", "I Gotta' Get Drunk", "Hello Walls". There are the touching tales of passionate love and heart wrenching heartbreak; "Crazy", "Wake Me When It's Over", "Three Days" and one of my personal favorites, "...more

The Facts of Life: and Other Dirty Jokes was a quick, pretty engaging read. The jokes in it were corny and predictably fantastic, and some of the diary-ish entries were well written. I finished it in a couple of days, but never felt that I really got into.

I've never much listened to Willie Nelson's music, so the lyrics didn't really strike any chord with me. I feel that if I had been listening to his albums I really would have enjoyed that kind of stuff. I loved his anecdotes, an...more

This book is about 50% song lyrics, 15% corny jokes, and what's left... Oh yes, 35% stories. The stories alone are worth the price of admission (or the trip to the library), and of course Willie Nelson is one of the great song writers of all time, so the lyrics are pretty amazing.

A really fun read that you can probably finish in an hour.

Now I see why people have all those different categories in their bookshelves. I mean, I enjoyed this book, but it can't compare with "Thousand Splendid Suns" or others that I've given 4 stars to. If I could just compare it with other memoirs, that might be easier.
Anyway, if you're a Willie fan, you like vulgar jokes, or want a nice easy read, I recommend this book.

The Facts of Life and Other Dirty Jokes by Willie Nelson (Random House 2002)(780.92) is a combination joke book, journal, and lyric sheet. He tells some good stories and includes some remarkable pictures. 7/10, finished 9/28/11.

If you aren't a fan of Willie Nelson you won't find the humor in this book. It is very raw and contains many dirty jokes and stories, like the title states. I found it funny and a great insight to a great musician's mind.

Funny Funny Funny. A quick engaging read. It was interesting to hear abit about his life here and there and than read the song lyrics that he wrote at or about that time. Very good!

An American hero and icon of our nearly lost independent outlaw spirit. This book is funny, warm, endearing and completely self-effacing.

Better than some of the other biographies. More "honest" voice for Willie. If you're in the market for a Willie biography, check this one out.
