I liked this book! It was a nice little Harlequin historical romance that kept me interested pretty much all of the way through. I read through it rather quickly. Nice plot, great seduction scene, good ending, the author wraps everything up. There are some surprises in the plot which was good for me, I hate it when the books are predictable. I've included below the write up about the book I found online:

This is the second book in the "Regency Silk & Scandal" series, and it concentrates on Nathan Wardale, brother of Nell, the heroine of the first book (The Lord and the Wayward Lady (Silk & Scandal)) and his relationship with Diana Price, who is companion to Marcus Carlow's two sisters.
We learned in the first book, that Nell had lost contact with her brother and sister following their mother's death, and here we find out why Nathan just disappeared and what he's been doing since. Diana's...more

This one was a real mixed bag, so a 2-star "it was OK" rating is probably fair. It concerns Nathan, a gambler by profession after his father's disgrace, and Diana, a lady's companion after her father's ruin at his hands.
Some thing I liked about this one:
- The Gypsy is painted as much more human and vulnerable than in the first book. He is also more vengeful, but its clear that to him his vengeance is at the direction of someone or something else. It made him incredibly mysterious and interesting...more

Paying the Virgin’s Price is the first Christine Merrill title I’ve read and, to be honest, it was a lackluster read. The hero and heroine spend very little time together and I didn’t have a sense that they ‘knew’ each other before declaring their love. I enjoy the gentlewoman-turned-servant characters and Diana was well done but I found her constant second-guessing of herself annoying. Nathan is a dark hero who waffles back and forth between loathing himself and tormenting members of the ton....more
Second book in the Silk & Scandal series. The hero in this story is the brother of the heroine in Book 1. The heroine is a woman from his past--someone he "done wrong." The hero is a gambler with amazing luck and the heroine is the daughter of a man he ruined. The heroine had to become a governess/companion, and has a hate for gamblers, and more of one for the hero. But he's not using his real name so... The conflict is beautifully done. It's hard to see how Merrill will resolve it, but she...more

Strangely enjoyable!
I picked this one up in a charity shop - my usual habit of picking out anything on my "to read" list, and then a couple of random books - sometimes I pick green ones or the 3rd from the left ....
I didn't realise until I opened it that it was a Mills & boon - they are the one type of book that I really don't enjoy ... but as I hadn't another book to hand at the time I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least read the first chapter before putting it in the "to giveaway" box!

Since buying this book the other day on Barnes and Noble Nook, this book has given me the hardest time reading. The book is very slow to begin with but it is still pretty good.
Well written, not very long which makes me believe that the author really needs a quicker pace in the book. But in the long run she did an OK of a job on writing the characters and the plot. The plot was good, the description of the plot is what made me want to buy the book and read it.

This is the only one of the series I have read and it will most likely stay that way unless I see one ridiculously cheap somewhere. I did enjoy the book. It was a quick and easy read and felt like it had more plot and was better written than the previous Mills and Boon books I’ve read (although I haven’t read many so this might be an over generalisation). The most disappointing part of the book was that it all seemed too easy for them. There was a lack of conflict. I think that the end of the bo...more
When I first saw this book, I was reluctant to read it. Then I came up the Silk and Scandal series and I knew I had to and never thought I'd like it as much as the first. Absolutely loved it! In my opinion it's the most romantic I've read since I started reading these books a few months back.
I really like Ms. Merrill's style but this one was specially sweet and seductively romantic.

Book 2 in the Regency Silk & Scandal series, here the chaperon Diana finds herself drawn to a man who she shares a dark history with, without knowing it. Nathan has been through more than enough, with the hanging of his innocent father, being impressed by the Navy to America and earning his keep with cards, not to mention the IOU that keeps plaguing him.

Didn't enjoy this one as much but there wasn't an obvious reason for it as I think the story itself stood up to the first one.
I also liked the hero and heroine's characters. Perhaps it was the series long plot which I found was given more prominence in this story than in the first one and it was a little distracting from that of the main couple.

An enjoyable read, but the real charm lies in the hero. Nathan Wardale is a gambler with a soul and a pocket full of secrets. The final twist is the best in the developing relationship between Nathan and his love. Secondary characters are more interesting than typical, mostly because this is part of a series.

I loved it.
It's a bit confusing at first, then I realized it's part of Silk & Scandal series.
Some people might think it's a bit boring but I enjoyed reading it. Nathan was very sweet and truly gentleman inside. And I admired Diana for opening her eyes that she couldn't kept holding the grudge against Nathan.
Somehow it kept me wondering who the real killer was and what happened exactly. I'm enthusiast knowing it's going to gather people involved in it around. I loved the closing when Diana ca...more

It's was truly captivating with many surprising twists& turns, as i have previously found in the work of Christine Merrill that I have read so far.
Also it's amazingly tastefully in its exciting intimated scenes of emotional self exploration and the practice of physically abandonment between the main characters

Christine Merrill has wanted to be an author for as long as she can remember. But one thing stood in her way: touch typing.
Six weeks spent on an IBM Selectric in her Sophomore year of high school proved that she would never be able to produce one readable page of manuscript, much less several hundred.
Twenty years passed, and she found ways to pass the time: marrying her high school sweetheart; hav...more
