There's little I appreciate more than a man who is strong and confident, yet secure enough to be loving, nurturing, and capable of showing his emotions. Brendon Shanahan in 'A Subtle Breeze' by Bailey Bradford has all these qualities and so much more. Ezekiel Matthers has many of the same characteristics as Brendon, but because of a physical assault his self-confidence is undermined, leaving him lonely and despairing. Brendon and Zeke would be perfect together, but only if they are able to overc...more

If you can't handle or ignore the 'instant lust-love' scenario, then don't read any further. If, on the other hand, you're like me - snorts with disbelief but then conveniently overlooks the sheer ridiculousness of the situation - then it's not a bad read.

I really liked the story but for me personally the book as a whole was more of a sex manual. Some authors have the knack of conveying passion without venturing into the realms of medical textbooks or porn which I don't think Ms Bradford has. Having said that though, the characters were believable and well drawn although I could not believe that Zeke had such a strong sense of family to the detriment of his own safety with his bitch of a sister Eva. It was good to see the book tackling religious...more
I am not a fan of "insta-love" stories, otherwise I may have rated this higher. But when the two MCs meet each other and then have sex not even 30 minutes later, I can't possibly believe there is anything there but physical attraction. Which is fine, but within the next chapter the boys have a little inner dialogue about being in love. Huh? Did I miss the sexual tension(and I don't mean just average horniness, here) or the time they spent together that was not based around sex?

I wish that I had not purchased this but I wanted to start on a new series and the series looked promising. I was hoping that it would be different from the last Bailey Bradford book I read. The characters and story had potential. There were just too many pages of sex between the two protagonists but not enough of the two interacting and getting to know each other (that does not involve sex) and developing a relationship . There was a disproportionate amount of pages of sex (considering that it...more
This is the first book in the Southern Spirits series and features Ezekial "Zeke" Mathers and Brendon Shanahan. Zeke is a "broken" man. He was the victim of a viscous, hate-based, attack years back and it's left him a broken man, unable to trust any of the towns people. He's become a recluse on his ranch, only interacting and trusting the few people he works with. But his cousin and a friend set him up with Brendon Shanahan, who has seen Zeke's picture and knows all about him before he meets him...more
Sometimes you just need a book that is easy reading and doesn't make you think too much, just for the relaxation of it. This story filled that need for me. It's instant attraction and in bed the first time they meet, but I can overlook that if the book is entertaining with a decent plot. It does take stars off though.
I liked Zeke with his panic attacks and worries, and Brendon was a good partner for him, thoughtful and caring. Nice easy read with a very satisfying ending.

I might be a bit hard in my rateing on this one because I really think that it could have been a good story. The characters are good and the incidients also but it feels like it's crammed in on too few pages. Zeke hasn't been with anyone for four years because he is afraid yet he fucks and falls in love with a stranger within hours, I find that hard to believe.

I really think they could have waited a wee bit more in the beginning, instead of getting nekkid and dirty after just exchanging a sentence or two. Other than that, a lovely story!

Waaaaay too much sex and not enough plot development. Could have been great but the characterisations were one dimensional and I felt as though I'd been dropped into the middle of a longer story.
2 stars, cause I was in the mood for exactly something like this. A lot of sex, easy story ;) Nothing special.

This was a nice little love story. The lovers were equally interesting.

The plot of this story is well crafted, each piece fitting snug and smooth into the last. While there are no really huge surprises, there is a lovely flow through the tale that kept me engaged right to the end.

Insta-love, WAY too much sex (at least one scene per chapter, most of the time there were 3 or 4), and Eva was an OTT evil villain. I liked the idea of this story, but it could have been a lot better.

A few things about me...
I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.
