Mitten drin steht Roni, die so viel mehr mit dem Katzenmann Taber verbindet als nur ihre gemeinsame freundschaftliche Vergangenheit und das bekommen auch bald die falschen Menschen mit. Taber kann nicht länger die Finger von der jüngeren Roni lassen. Ist sie doch seine Gefährtin! Der Hormon-Drogencocktail, den sein Körper nun ausschüttet und wie seine Angebetete darauf reagiert verhelfen den beiden zu einem erotischen Höhepunkt. Doch ist es das war sie wollen? Aneinander gebunden zu sein?

Wie schon im ersten Band zwischen Callan und Merinus fliegen jetzt zwischen Taber und Roni die sexuell aufgeheizten Monsterfunken! Man kann es gar nicht anders sagen, denn die Luft zwischen den beiden ist gerade in den ersten zwei Dritteln vollkommen damit aufgeladen. Erotische Leidenschaft, Sex in der reinsten Form und die gewollte sowie ungewollte Anziehung zueinander spielt natürlich eine sehr große Rolle in dieser Reihe von Lora Leigh. So kommen gerade die Leser dieses Genres auf ihre Kosten. Wohingegend die Grundstory natürlich weiterläuft, allerdings nicht besonders anspruchsvoll. Dies alles macht den Roman zu einem Quickie, denn die Seiten fliegen nur so dahin, was natürlich die Einfachheit der Geschichte stützt.

Für die Breeds und ebenso für ihre Frauen wird die Gefahr immer greifbarer. Auch Ronis Vater Reginald Andrews stellt scheinbar eine nicht unerhebliche Gefahr da, doch müssen die Breeds erst einmal herausfinden wie er konkret für sie gefährlich werden kann. Doch ist es dann nicht vielleicht bereits zu spät?

Wichtig zu erwähnen ist wohl, dass hier Leidenschaft und Liebe getrennt werden. Das wird vorwiegend bei Roni selbst zum Thema, denn sie kennt Taber zwar schon so lange, doch haben sie sich seit über einem Jahr nicht mehr gesehen und einige Schatten verdüstern ihr Herz und ihre Seele. Taber hingegen kommt sehr undurchsichtig daher ... der Katzenmann ist eben nicht sehr redselig, aber dafür umso standhafter was die Wahrheit und sein Ehrenwort betrifft. Doch wäre alles direkt Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen wäre dem Leser ja nichts geboten. Und so gibt es eben Hürden zu überwinden, die mehr als verständlich zwischen den beiden stehen.

Nackte Leiber. Purer Sex. Gefahr. Lora Leigh bietet ihren Lesern wirklich ein wunderbar erotisches Zusammentreffen.(less)

This story was much better than the first one in this series. Roni and Taber were a much better and more interesting couple than Merinus and Callan. My only regret? That I have to put up with Mernius throughout this story as well.

I still roll my eyes at her about face after spending most of the first book rejecting Callan at every turn, the author has the gall to call Merinus Callan's "fiesty female" as if it's some sort of loving title he's bestowed upon her.

My complaints: (which were pretty much the same with book 1)

1.) The story line has so much potential, and it'd be so great if she would elaborate on it some more - give it more attention. Keep all the sex, but add more story too!

2.) The damn womb references. Ugh. I can't be the only person who is completely discouraged by it. I want to put the book down each time I read something like "clenching womb", "her womb rippled", "cramps in her womb", "her womb spasmed", "convulsing womb" - etc. There is more, trust me. It's horrific. It ruins a good sex scene for me.

3.) Some of the dirty talk the lovers do reminds me of bad hentai. Like, too many weird metaphors and too much describing things in detail. Almost cheesy at times. But, it'll make you giggle.

Other than the extreme obsession with using the word womb too much, the sex scenes are great. They can be tedious sometimes, but she mixes it up pretty well. It's a definite treat.

The story got a bit more interesting in this book, and I hope to see more as I continue the series. (less)

It's been fun reading this series from the beginning. I like getting the background of the different breed groups and the head characters that are in the background in the later novels. I also appreciate having more detailed descriptions of things that I didn't understand before. The Ellora's Cave editions describe the whole sex barb thing in a little more detail than the later novels. Lots of crazy pleasure/pain sex which seems to be Lora Leigh's thing. Roni is human. Taber, a Breed, is part tiger (or other large cat). He has known and helped Roni for years as she grew up in a troubled home environment. When she was 19, they were on the verge of a romantic relationship, when they each received a note from the other saying that they didn’t want to be with each other. His note to her said that she was too young and not the kind of woman he needed. Her note to him said she found him too rough, crude and frightening and she wanted someone who treated her softly. They each were hurt and went their separate ways.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Circumstances bring them together three years later but she continues to be angry because of his letter. This conflict continues for more than half of the book. We then learn that Dayan forged both letters and delivered them to both Roni and Taber, for the purpose of breaking them up. I did not enjoy this conflict at all. A simple phone call (saying I got your letter, goodbye) would have exposed the forgery and avoided the conflict. The conflict was based on inaccurate assumptions, which is one of my pet peeves. Later, when they do get together, they have sex at least twice before they discover that the letters were false. I suppose this was to have anger-based sex scenes, but it didn’t work for me.

For her own safety, Roni is staying with Taber and other Breeds. A subplot involves her father trying to kidnap her to turn her over to enemies of the Breeds.

Ok, so I'm giving 2 stars to this one, but it's a good 2 stars.
I did like it much more than the first which I gave 1 star,LOL.This is a really hard series to rate.

There are some things I really like about this series. I had the same problem with both of the books I read in it, it's like there are some excellent elements to exploit that could turn this series into a much more interesting one, but they are left as secondaries to let the sex scenes overrule. This is another hot paranormal romance from one of my fast-becoming favorite author, Lora Leigh. It was emotionally-charged and the sexual tension just rockets off. Taber kept his distance from Roni because he is one of the Breeds and he will not get her involved in this secret mess he is in. But when he bails her out of jail and she pushes him over the edge, he cannot control his instincts and he puts his mark on her. Finally their live together can begin, but because of interfering of a traitor, they both believe the other wants nothing to do with the other and they keep their distance.

Now several months later the news about the Breeds is out in the open and Roni is in danger, because her father saw the mark on her body and sold that information to the highest bidder. Taber knows the only thing to do is save her yet again and claim his mate once and for all.

The man within by Lora Leigh is the second novel in the Breed series and I loved every word of it. This novel is full of danger, relation issues and of course hot and steamy scenes.

Roni and Taber know each other since Roni was eleven years old. He looked out for her ever since and now years later he has to bails her out of jail. They both cannot ignore the huge sparkles flying around between them and Taber cannot control his instincts and marks her as his mate. But for some stupid reason they are drifted apart from each other. Months later everyone knows about the Breeds and that puts Roni in danger, because of Taber’s mark. But nobody treats his mate and get away with it, so Taber takes the first flight to save and claim his mate once and for all.

What I like about this series is the huge closeness between the Breeds Callan, Dawn, Sherra, Tanner and Taber; I know this is normal, because first they living in secret and now they are all in the open about their DNA. But that is not all, Callan’s mate and her brothers are a part of this too and they will do anything in their power to help the Breeds in their journey.

Roni determination to find a cure for this bonding was so hilarious, because we already saw this struggle in the first novel, when Merinus was claimed by Callen. But I’m glad to see that love and friendship will win Roni over, so she can make peace with her Breed life.

Ma a causa della rivelazione della coppia del romanzo precedente che Roni verrà presa di mira dai giornali e Taber sarà pronto a tornare da lei accantonando la rabbia per il falso biglietto. Roni dopo essere stata scaricata quindici mesi prima, si ritrova ad essere catalogata come donna di Taber senza esserlo stata davvero e fatta andare in calore da un uomo che dovrebbe odiare. E' arrabbiata e ferita. Si ritrova in un mondo a lei sconosciuto, preda di un desiderio irresistibile senza cura (se non quell'unico modo a cui lei non vuole arrendersi). E pur arrabbiata non può non accettare l'amore incondizionato ed esclusivo che Taber le offre. Anche Roni come Merinos è una vergine e sarà iniziata alle gioie del sesso in modo brutale e continuo. Il racconto termina rivelando che la protagonista ha un padre diverso da quello che supponeva e ovviamente è incinta. La storia in pratica è una fotocopia della precedente,anzi,con mio rammarico le scene di sesso sono decisamente di più,tanto che alla fine stufano. Si perde il filo del discorso. Taber come Callan sembrano fuori di testa nella brama di possedere le loro compagne e di nuovo il linguaggio diventa rude,forte con dialoghi che mi hanno pure infastidita. C’è qualche scena di combattimento ,ma l’aria che si respira è satura di ormoni a dismisura. Vengono introdotte altre razze ferine e si accenna ai protagonisti del prossimo volume,Sherra,la donna gatto siberiana e Kane ,fratello di Merinos. Unica nota positiva a mio avviso è una buona dose di sentimento che arricchisce piacevolmente il libro non rendendolo solo e unicamente un ammasso di scene hot . L’approfondimento psicologico dei protagonisti è diverso da quello del romanzo precedente,seppure Taber è violento,la ama dal profondo,da una vita intero come del resto lo fa Roni. Quindi non mi sento di stroncarlo del tutto. Due stelline.

Se vi ricordate nell'anteprima di questo romanzo avevo segnalato che non avrei continuato, o almeno non avevo intenzione, di continuare questa serie... Il primo, infatti, mi aveva molto deluso e non avevo dato grandi chance a questo romanzo...

Wow. I like erotica, which is what I would categorize this as, but this was a little over the top for me. I’ve often thought that Lora Leigh is basically Diana Palmer with anal, and this book certainly seemed to be starting out in that direction -- most of the story happened before the book started or behind the scenes, the hero is 8 years older than the heroine, he’s taken care of her since she was a child, he inexplicably makes a pass at her, then treats her rotten. I really enjoyed this edition in Leigh's Breeds series. I am commiting a cardinal sin of reading these books out of order, basically picking up a book by chance and not really knowing where in the series it belongs until I look it up on the computer.

Schon lange ist mir klar, dass ich diese Reihe einfach weiter verfolgen muss. Zugegeben, sie konnte ihre wahre Stärke noch nicht zeigen, aber weil ich von den späteren Bänden viele kenne, weiß ich, dass Lora Leigh diese Welt noch interessant und detailreich ausbauen wird. Obwohl die späteren Bände nicht weniger erotisch ausfallen, haben sie doch mehr Tiefe, was den ersten Bänden hier noch fehlt. Aber wie gesagt, das war mir klar und ich finde es als Gesamtes interessant zu sehen wie sich die Autorin entwickelt.

Tabers Versuchung bleibt wie sein Vorgänger Callans Schicksal ein Erotikroman, aber niemand kann sagen, dass dies überraschend ist, weil es am Cover selbst direkt ersichtlich ist. Die Breeds haben ihr Geheimnis der Öffentlichkeit nun bekannt gegeben, sehen sich damit aber gleich neuen Problemen gegenüber. Denn nicht jeder kann und möchte sie in der Gesellschaft akzeptieren und ihnen steht hier noch ein langer Weg bevor. Umso schöner ist es zu sehen, dass Roni weiterhin zu Taber steht, auch wenn sich dieser von ihr zurückgezogen hat bzw. sie sich auch von ihm. Ihre Beziehung ist weniger stürmisch als die von Callan und Merinus, aber ebenso heiß. Aus einer Kindheitsliebe ist mehr geworden und das Prickeln zwischen ihnen merkt man in jeder Szene. Dass Taber dem nicht nachgeben möchte ist verständlich, schließlich soll sie nicht wegen ihm in Gefahr raten und auch jemand anderer möchte die beiden nicht glücklich sehen. Aber als sie ihn dann tatsächlich braucht steht er auf ihrer Seite und unterstützt sie, beschützt sie sogar vor ihrer Familie. Diese Zärtlichkeit hat mir im Vorgängerband etwas gefehlt, aber Lora Leigh konnte das hier sehr gut ausgleichen.

Besonders überraschend kam für mich das Ende, darum möchte ich es an dieser Stelle auch erwähnen. Zwar nicht das Ende der Geschichte selbst, aber doch wie schnell es da war. Man sieht die Seitenzahl des Buches und kann dann vom Gefühl her abschätzen wie lange es noch gehen wird. Dieser Eindruck war bei Tabers Versuchung irreführend. Denn das Buch endete schon bei Seite 283 und so hatte ich mich noch nicht darauf eingestellt den Charakteren Auf Wiedersehen zu sagen. Das mag normalerweise nicht so drastisch sein, aber die Geschichte fällt eh schon kürzer aus, da möchte man natürlich so viel Zeit wie möglich dabei verbringen.

Somit bleibt das einzige Manko, dass die Geschichte für mich viel zu schnell vorbei war und jetzt die Wartezeit auf den nächsten Band beginnt. Wobei ich nach diesem Prolog aber mit einem anderen Pärchen (Kane und Sherra) gerechnet hätte, das aber tatsächlich erst später ihr Happy End bekommen soll (im Original wäre das Band 4 – Kiss of Heat –, zur Übersetzung ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nichts bekannt. Der Verlag übersetzt erstmal Band 3 und springt dann gleich zu Band 6 Megan’s Mark über.). Ich hätte gerne mehr Zeit mit Taber und Roni verbracht, ich glaube nämlich nicht, dass wir all ihre Facetten bereits kennen. Lora Leigh bleibt ihrem Stil jedoch treu und überzeugt mit einer Ausgeglichenheit zwischen erotischen und gefühlsvollen Szenen. (less)

The only reason I gave this one three stars instead of two is that Lora Leigh knows how to write sex!

Now, with that said. I have to say that I had some problems with this book. My biggest problem was with Roni. I've never seen anyone switch feelings so fast! Roni's complete 180 degree personality flips completely ruined this book for me. Let me explain.

A little back story first.
This book starts out showing how much Roni and Taber want each other. But, due to a letter received, where Taber tells her to go away and that she's just a child, Roni breaks up with Taber. In righteous anger Roni vows that he will pay.

So, for 15 months Roni hates Taber everyday. Now, due to her hickie the press and bad guys want to get her so Taber comes to the rescue. Roni is fully prepared to drive his balls up between his ears. However, Taber manages to kiss her and because of his super hormones she lets her body overrule her mind.

Now, she goes to live with the Breeds for protection from the bad guys. She's fighting Taber the entire time, still hating his guts. She can't help but have some hot sex with him due to the hormones in her system.

Here is where I begin to have a problem with this book. Taber shows her a letter that proves Dayan wrote him a letter as well. Thereby creating the classic misunderstanding from not communicating. That's not so bad and I can deal with that. But, What grinds my gears is that as soon as she reads the letter she literally instantly forgives him and falls madly head over heals, finally admitting she loves him. It's just not possible for someone who spent 15 months hating someone else to suddenly flip a switch and love them! It's ridiculous! The entire first 3/4's of the books was about how much she hates Taber. Then she does a complete 180 on page flip?! Forget about it.

The other problem I had is related to that. She's vehement in that she doesn't want a baby. But just as soon as Taber impregnates her, she's mommy of the year and instantly in love with the fact and ultra protective. I'm not going to go into this one as much it happened in book one as well. I can kind of deal with this one. Maybe Lora just didn't feel it necessary to show us how these women come to deal with unwanted pregnancy. I mean it's not like it would provide any extra character depth and dynamics. After all this kind of thing doesn't happen in real life. (In case you can't tell I'm being sarcastic. )

Well, those are my problems with this book. Other than Roni's character flaws I did enjoy this book, which is why I ended up giving it a 3. I am still interested in this world that is slowly building so I will probably read the next one later.
