I really, really like the world setup that the author created. I have a bit of a thing for the Salem trials, so seeing a modern day world modeled after that was a big hit with me. Can you just imagine living like that? The author clearly shows that even just being seen talking with someone suspected of witchcraft can lead to you being snatched up too. There really are witches and magic, but a lot of innocent people are accused for no reason because the hysterical public has led to an act-first-a...more
Don't you just love UF/PNR books that have the soulmates thing. In some UF/PNR it can work, in others not so much. VISON OF MAGIC is a perfect example of a book where the soulmates thing didn't do it for me.
First off the Prologue and chapter 1 is done very well that it keeps you interested, but it goes downhill from there. I just don't think this book had very much orginality in the Urban Fantasy and soulmates department. Other books I have read were so much better. I admit I wanted to quit aft...more

The promise of a modern world where witches are very real and hunted by the government had me foaming at the mouth for this 2011 debut. The Salem witch hunts look tame next to the world Hastings has built—clearly a world worthy of Urban Fantasy. Once any woman is suspected of being a witch she’s either monitored or simply caught and imprisoned. No one checks to see if the prisoner is a witch, the woman is just out of luck if someone starts chanting, “Witch-witch, you’re...more

What I Loved: This is such a richly woven story that spans time, generations, and even worlds. Regan has set up a series that can only expand and become more encompassing over time. I am not usually a fan of the first novels in a series but this one gives you enough information without having the story lag in order to accomplish it. You are quickly drawn in to the plights of the Witches, their Eternals, and the innocents caught up in the madn...more

I was really excited about this book. Great premise: ten years ago witches were outed. The world is in a panic, rounding up known and suspected witches and placing them in camps/prisons to await legal execution without a trial. A magical underground flourishes, trying to save as many women as they can. A group of witches from a coven who made a terrible mistake was forced to live reincarnated lives without magic until now, when they must atone for their pasts. The story follows one of these witc...more
In a world where witches are sent to camps and burned at the stake, only one coven can stop it! Only the coven has to wait for the witches to awaken. Shea is the first. Running to her car after work a man tries to mug her, and she sets him on fire. This proves to herself, and the public who saw it that she is a Witch. She is shortly whisked away by a pillar of fire.

Visions of Magic is a fresh debut to a new paranormal series. In this 1st book, we are introduced to Shea Jameson. Shea is a descendant of witches, but being a witch is dangerous for they are feared. Since her aunt was burned for witchcraft, Shea has been on the run and has finally settled down as a boring school teacher. But she is soon discovered and when assaulted, she unconsciously defends herself with deadly flames....more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Shea was confused in the beginning. Her memories of her past incarnations are beginning to break thru, but she doesn't realize what is happening. Her aunt Maira was burned as a witch 10 years previously, and Shea has been watched by the government to see if she has the same abilities. She doesn't trust anyone, and although she does not believe herself to be a witch, she uproots herself and moves whenever she begins to feel threatened.
Torin is Shea's Eternal. A war...more

Visions Of Magic is the first book in the “Awakening” series for Regan Hastings. I enjoyed this book a lot. It combined my love for the paranormal, mystery and hot men..which is always awesome for me to find when I pick up a book.
Shea is a woman who has been fighting her past for some time. She has denied the surges of witchcraft running through her body and tried to stop the inevitable. With hunters on the loose trying to destroy all witches, Shea just wants a normal life as a school teacher. B...more

My feelings for Visions of Magic by Regan Hastings are a mixed bag. On the positive side, the plot and worldbuilding are extremely original. So often in paranormal books, witches are either hiding in society or accepted as a different species living among the humans. Not so in Visions of Magic. The persecution and deep-seated fear are palpable and, even better, believable. I can see people reacting this way if a person were to step forward and say, “Hey, so I can do magic. What do you think?” Th...more
Shea Jameson & Torin . . .
She - the first awakened witch. Torin - her Eternal.
This is the first of a series. Being that this is my first witch book, it took me a while to get into it. It was okay. Not bad.
The love story was just too fast for me. There was no build up. Before I knew it, Shea was in love with Torin. Okaaaay . . .
Overall, 3 stars . . .

Magic returns and women are hunted for it. It is like the Salem witch trials but this time it has gone global. Now is the time of The Awakening in which a great coven of witches will emerge to complete a task from long ago and ultimately, save the world.
Shea Jameson discovers not only is she a witch, like her aunt, but she is part of the last great coven of witches. She is the first witch to be awakened. This is her journey to deal with the past, discover her true self, and make things right fo...more

What a sad book. The concept was interesting but the book was just so painfully cheesy that it was an eye-roll fest throughout. There were so many cut-and-paste sex scenes with the most repetitive descriptions, you'd think she took writing instruction from Laurell K. Hamilton. All the while, it was awkward and childish.
I don't know how many times she had to use the word "mating;" the mating, mating sex, etc. Or "brand;" Yes, we GET that she has a flame mating brand starting at her left nipple. P...more

Shea Jameson has been on the run. Her aunt was literally burned at the stake, accused of being a witch, and now the Magic Police (or MP) have been keeping a close eye on Shea. If any shred of doubt is placed upon you for being a witch, you are arrested and taken away – and usually burned to death. Shea’s time is up though. After an attempted mugging, she tries to escape and she somehow shoots flames out of her fingers and burns the criminal, while a crowd watches. They immediately start chanting...more

I gave it a 3.5/5
I liked it but I didn't love it. I liked the whole concept of the story, The witch was naughty a long time ago and gave up her power for a really long time and is now awakening to herself again. Her eternal is there for her in everything as she completes a task of atonement. There is some awesome world building, everything comes off as realistic as it can be with all the detail Regan Hastings has put into it. I had no problem i...more

In Shea Jameson's world magic and witches are not fun and it's not something you dabble or flaunt. Shea lives in fear. Always running, always hiding. For 10 years this has been her way of life. Ever since her aunt was burned at the stake for being a witch. Now Shea learns that she has powers and is forced to run again. In that moment, the warrior Torin walks in, changing...more

Shea Jameson is a woman on the run. Her aunt was accused of being a witch and burned at the stake. Just being related has meant that Shea has to live her life on the run because the MP or magic police have been keeping a close eye on her waiting for magic to appear. Then one day a man attempts to mug her and while trying to escape she shoots flames out of her fingers and burns the mugger. Of course a crowd has gathered around panics and accuses of her of being a witch. (I know I know on the edge...more
VISIONS OF MAGIC was written by a friend of mine who's writing under a different name, Regan Hastings. I've been sworn to secrecy about her (or his) true identity, but I can tell you that she (or he) has appeared on the USA TODAY bestsellers list. :) I absolutely loved this book!
Shea discovers unexpectedly that she is a witch... not a good thing to be in a 21st century world where witches are hunted by the Federal Bureau of Witchcraft and burned at the stake. The only place she feels safe is in...more

I just finished reading Visions of Magic and I am amazed at the author's sheer talent. In a short few pages, Ms. Hastings made me feel entrenched in Shea's world. I did feel, at times, that some aspects of the plot were hurried along to make room for the (very hot) sex scenes. But as they were an intricate part of the story, I didn't feel as if they detracted from the book at all. I found myself getting very angry about the way that the witches and accused human women were treated by the everyda...more

Visions of Magic is book one in a series called Awakening. The series itself will follow witches of one coven who have been reincarnated in hopes of preventing the destruction of the world. This book follows Shea as her powers awaken. Warning: Sexual content is Erotica.
Shea starts out in complete denial. As her character progresses she has flashbacks from past lives. I like this heroin, but I find that she acts entirely too stupid for her...more

One of the most well-used tropes in Paranormal Romance is the idea of soulmates, of fated partners. Like everything, it's been done well, and it's been done poorly. I'm sorry to say that Visions of Magic falls into the latter category. It tells the story of Shea Jameson, a witch on the cusp of Awakening, and her soulmate and Eternal, Torin. According to Hastings' world, each of the witches in the Awakening has an Eternal, an immortal war...more

Regan Hastings delivers a magical and passion filled story in the first book of her Awakening series.

I was drawn to this book for a couple of reasons; the guess her identity contest (I love a good mystery) & the cover is fantastic “Attention Grabbing Red.” I admit that I am often swayed by the marketing (especially if it’s an author I haven’t previously read).

I thought that the world building in this book was excellent, it was the best part of the book and I really liked the beginning. I also liked the political intrigue throughout the book.
But I did think that the middle dragged and I was forcing myself to get through it. I didn't dislike Shea or Torin but I didn't really connect with them either. At one point I was more interested in the side story of the sanctuaries than with the main couple. All that said, it did pick up at the end and the climax...more
