I started out really enjoying this book. It was light—both in terms of worldbuilding and tone—but sometimes I don’t want heavy or complex. Sometimes I just want to smile and giggle and enjoy a lighthearted romance. I think if I had to liken it to something I would probably pick the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. They’re not the same storyline or writing style, but the tone is similar.

I was very excited about this book. I love Vicki Lewis Thompson since i read "Babe on a Broomstick" and couldn't wait to start this one. If only i had the same enthusiasm to finish it. To put it blankly i know Vicki tends to walk a fine line between sex and erotic sex. The thing is that in the books i've read is that the sex was secondary to the bigger storyline. I'm torn between rating this book 4 stars or 5 I really Enjoyed it but there's moments in this book were I'm like wtf that and then theres her not being able to fight .....
I know your probably like okey that's a dumb reason but here's the thing I usually read vampire books but this story line seemed interesting so I was like what the hell what it gonna hurt give it a shot. It started strong, but overall was just a so-so read. I was drawn to it as a light & funny read, and it definitely had it's moments.

Unfortunately the author chose to avoid any real plot development or satisfying conflict resolution. When things that are "impossible" are solved with a shrug, when the villain of the piece disappears and never gets what he deserves... It just disappoints. I'd have liked to see more plot, less "oh we find each other sooooo sexy" time.

Let this record show that I am not trying to hate this book. I really want to like it but then some things are downright silly to me.
You know the plot. You have read the synopsis. This review is not spoiler-free.

The writing style was not impressive. I’m not jumping up and down or finding myself laughing hysterically or chuckling. The book brought smile to my face but it was not overly hilarious or funny. The dialogues fell flat for me. That I don’t like because I expected something good.

Just very meh. Incredibly mediocre. I finished it, so it wasn't god awful, but so much about it left me cold- the characters, the settings, their reactions. It is basically every werewolf romance, nothing new, and the romance isn't even that engaging.

The worst part was the author's penchant for describing everything, including the characters thoughts, down to the last detail. She leaves nothing for you to figure out, and repeats things ad nauseum and with maximum redundancy - like how the hot ri...more

When Emma starts getting emails from someone who scares her, Aidan knows he has to step in. Things become even more complicated when they find out that the guy sending the creepy emails is Nadia's nineteen-year-old brother Theo. Now, Aidan has to protect Emma from Theo who really wants the werewolves to come out to the public while keeping the whole idea of werewolves as fact away from Emma. Also he has to find a way to keep his hands off a woman who gets more fascinating each time he meets her. Sharing a suite in Chicago's Palmer Hotel might not really be the best idea if they really intend to keep their hands off each other but he convinces himself that it is good security.

It doesn't help that Aidan has a genetic defect that forces him to shift when he gets aroused without the possibility of satisfaction. And just being around Emma is very arousing for him. It doesn't help that Emma wants him too. She says it is "research" into the lives of the rich and famous but neither one of them really believes it. Emma is into saving the planet and really gets on Aidan's case about his private cars, fancy suites, and really, really fancy watch. They have very different lifestyles which would be enough of a barrier to romance even without the whole werewolf thing. But love can manage obstacles like that despite the differences between them.

This was a wonderfully sweet romance between two strong characters who were willing to fight for each other. I liked that Emma was a strong independent woman who wasn't going to let the rich and powerful Wallace clan push her around. I enjoyed the story so much that I quickly went online and ordered the next book in the Wild About You series - A Werewolf in the North Woods - and look forward to reading Roarke's story.(less)

I haven't read any of Ms. Thompson's Babes in Brooms novels, but I saw this one at my favorite bookstore, Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, and couldn't resist it!

Loved the concepet, where the main character is Emma Gavin, a best selling novelist who writes romances featuring werewolves. She doesn't believe in actual werewolves. So maybe it's because my family's from southeast Asia, but all the family pressure stuff the hero had to deal with made it pretty hard for me to like aWiM. Having to deal with it myself, on a regular basis...well reading about it sorta made the escapism I was looking for, out of reach.

But take that part of the story out of the equation, and I still don't think I'd be able to say I liked it.

What fun I’m having with Vicki Lewis Thompson’s paranormal books lately. I recently read and reviewed Chick with a Charm and enjoyed it a lot. Now she’s started a new series, Wild About You, and this first book is a terrific start with a delicious hero and a feisty heroine, who gets herself into trouble with her werewolf stories she writes. Now she’s started a new series, Wild About You, and this first book is a terrific start with a delicious hero and a feisty heroine, who gets herself into trouble with her werewolf stories she writes. She has no idea how accurate her imagination is!

My favorite part of this book is Aidan. I love him. Though he starts out enjoying Emma’s books, they - and she - a’re on his and his pack’s radar because her descriptions of pack life are spot on in most instances. Because of that and because their kind have kept their existence a secret for centuries, it’s Aidan’s job to check Emma out to see how she’s getting her information. They suspect a werewolf, of course. It’s finding out who, if it’s a rogue wolf and just what the circumstances are. Thus, Aidan has learned about Emma quite intimately over the last three months and it’s time to move his investigation to the next level. His plan is to travel with her on her book tour to check out his suspicions. It’s getting the lady herself to agree that might be the difficult part of his plan.

I also like Emma a lot too. She’s very independent, strong-willed, and quite passionate when the right man comes along. Her current boyfriend is an accountant, so you can imagine how boring the sex is. So while Emma is, of course, attracted to Aidan, especially because he reads her book, besides being so good looking, she’s a woman who believes and lives doing what is right. She can’t give in to Aidan while still with the numbers man. I admire her sense of right and wrong and I love her curiosity. Once she’s “in custody” of the pack, she can’t help but ask questions about their way of life and the animals inside them and that won’t help her case with them at all. But before all of that, the time with Aidan and Emma is just plain old fun.

Aidan has a genetic flaw in that when he becomes aroused, his body goes through an involuntary shift. I had to chuckle a couple of times when this happened and the man still tells himself he feels nothing but lust for Emma, his life is mapped out for him as heir, he has no choice, and other excuses. He’s fooling only himself, though he is trying to do the right thing too, but going in that direction will bring unhappiness. I enjoy the hell out of Emma goading Aidan about his wealth and his response she shouldn’t knock it till she tries it. Their banter keeps things moving along at a nice pace.

What I want more of is the shifting. It happens only a few times, though I have to say when Aidan breaks down a door to get to Emma when she’s in danger is a terrific scene. As is the scene between Aidan and his family later in the book. He stands his ground as the heir and I love him all the more for it. I just wish there’d been more scenes in that vein, though there is a good job of his growling and other characteristics of the wolf in him in between it all. The whole wolf would have been nice, however.

All in all, I know I’m going to really like this series. I’m looking forward to Roarke’s book, Aidan’s brother. It will be enjoyable to watch him fall when his time comes.

Well... where to start. One of my two stars is for the great cover and title. It made me buy the book, with very little reading of the back blurb.

I found the idea that our werewolf has a condition that causes him to transform when he is excited without release rather, ahem, interesting. Which beastly desire would win out? And we ended up with some rather, ahem, interesting scenes because of this battle.

Alas, somewhere around page 50 our hero and heroine leave Manhattan (a feat which leaves one puzzling as to the title since, for over 4/5 of the book our werewolf is not, in fact, "in Manhattan") and the book just falls down rapidly. The next 50 pages were on the acceptable side - good enough to keep me reading through to the end - but once the heroine realizes that her hero is, in fact, a werewolf, ugh... I can't even find the words to describe how bad this book fails.

All character and plot development just fly out the window. There is no - I repeat, no - resolution to the villain werewolf storyline which dominated the first 2/3 of the book. He just sort of fizzles off the page. Its almost as if the author couldn't decide what to do with him, so she just ignored the elephant, er werewolf, in the closet. But then she has our fun, intelligent, bookish heroine turn into an annoying, foolish, idiot who seems to have lost all sense of self-respect. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to slap her after the discovery was made. Let your werewolf love marry some other werewolf, while you go into hiding for the rest of your life and give up everything you've ever known (oh, but not your writing - you can still write) and she's "cool" with that. Seriously?? Yes, there ends up being a happy ending, but the character assassination that had to occur to get us to that happy ending was SO not worth it. (less)

Aww, the book was really sweet and cute, and with some hot passion too.

Emma spends most of her time writing, and having sex sometimes with her boring boyfriend. She is sure not living the passionate life of her heroines. And I did start to think that she needed that. I picked up a copy of Vicki Lewis Thompson's A Werewolf in Manhattan a few weeks ago. I hadn't read any of her other stuff (although now I am interested in at least the Witch books) and was pleasantly surprised. I think I have found yet another series to read. But, I realized, Manhattan must be pretty crowded with all the supernatural folks that live there. Although, given how much of this book takes place in Chicago, the title might be a little off.

Ok so when it comes to adult reads I guess the best ones for my liking are the supernatural ones. This book was pretty good. I loved the fact that she was a writer and that she wrong about werewolves, and then bam…one walks into her life thinking she knows too much. This book had my toes curling at some points, and I loved the feisty Emma. I love her independent needs and her stubborn determination to get what she wants. She made me laugh at the things she defined as research. I also loved the sarcastic humour that they both brought to the table, and the odd line that was slipped in from his brother. And when Emma really wanted something she turns into a stubborn powerful woman…I appreciated that.
Good:
Emma: Author, independent woman, funny, and knows how to get something that she wants
Aiden: Hot, Alpha wolf. Rich and doesn’t mind spending it, but also knows when to appreciate what he has. Loyal and honourable.
Sylvia: A funny older woman who likes to pinch, and loves Emma’s writing.
Bad:
The story line was a little wonky. I don’t really know how else to explain it. The main plot for the novel seems to change halfway through the book, making some of it feel awkward.
Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):
Overall the writing was very well done. I laughed many times and really enjoyed the characters. The plot needed a bit of work to make it all flow nicely, however it wasn’t anything that seriously hurt the novel. The characters were enjoyable, although sometimes you think they seem to have it all when you learn Aidan and Roarke both have astounding IQs, and come from rich families. However, that was not something that hurt the book overall either. The only thing that did catch my attention in this novel seems to be the fascination with an extremely expensive watch. Perhaps the author has a thing for watches?

Emma Gavin is an author in New York City who writes best-selling romance novels with werewolf heroes. She writes so accurately that she has garnered the attention of the werewolf community who feels that she must be getting her information first hand. Some rogue is playing traitor to the pack and selling out. So Aidan, the top security officer and heir to the pack, has been placed on the job and been watching her for three months. What has been discovered that she leads a VERY quiet life, drinks too much coffee and dances alone in her apartment.

Emma is about ready to go on her book tour in the middle of winter when her plans change because of some loony emails she has received. Aidan swoops in to save the day in a very heroic manner (just like one of her fictional heroes) and that is when all he** breaks loose!

Emma is a very environmentally conscious individual who always takes public transportation and though she could afford first class plane tickets, chooses economy class because more people can fit into the same place, and has decent but not expensive jewelry and / or clothing.

Aidan, her wealthy research study, has an $800,000 watch, flies either first class or charters an airplane and lives in the penthouse.

They have little in common other than a sense of attraction and yet somehow they seem to care about each other and are 'fated' for the other. It was a pleasant book -- but not one in which I feel that the relationship is based enough on realistic items ... will they be together in 5 or 10 years? Maybe they can build on what they have now but it seems that though the next book in the series is the younger brother Roarke, the anthropologist ... I will look it up for I like the concept; but it wouldn't be a book that I buy. (less)

To start out, I won A Werewolf in Manhattan (and the second book in this series, Werewolf in the North Woods) in an author contest through Fresh Fiction. While I have never before read one of Ms. Thompson’s book, they have been on my radar for some time. Due in a large part to my ungainly TBR pile tho, I never gave into the urge to read one until now. Thanks to my good luck, I was given the opportunity to read through this book without the ticking of my conscience for buying another book to add to my already bursting TBR shelves. (I found a way around the guilt cycle, and I received two personalized and autographed books! I love winning contests!) So now on the book…

This was a cute and fun read. In places it did delve into a bit of the absurd, and make me laugh-out-loud (not a bad thing) while in others it was sweet and cuddly. The plot was a bit done, tho I will admit that I have mostly seen the writer-too-close-to-reality thing used with vampires, it was still a bit predictable. I was not a huge fan of the family dynamics thing, nor was I big on the throw-back arranged marriage concept. It felt that for a contemporary light paranormal it just dragged it down a bit. I did however LOVE the “quirk” of genetics that made our hero shift into wolf form if left sexually frustrated. I found it hilarious, and a great plot device, not to mention a yummy excuse for steamy-time, which this book had loads of. Ms. Thompson knows how to write steamy-time.

I liked the characters in this book a great deal, the bantering and the playfulness were fun to read, and the push and pull between personalities and circumstances was a nice, if at-time uncomfortable, tension. Some of the secondary characters were quite memorable and I would love to see future books that had Roarke’s or Nadia’s HEA. (I haven’t read the blurb on the next book to see if that is likely, but I think it would be fun.)

The plot in this work was a tad-bit contrived, and I will admit in places disappointing for me. I don’t know if it was the wealthy angle that is just not my style, or the hot and cold relationship, but in either case it almost reminded me of an old musical where I wanted to yell into the screen to avoid further mishaps. This book would make on heck of a screw-ball comedy. It did eventually pick up for me, about two-thirds of the way in, when we had less secrets and the oblique family presence was more pinned down to actually personalities. It is then where I really feel we got down to telling a love story. The wrap-up of which, coming as it did so late in the book, was a bit quick. An epilogue that included acceptance, new in-laws, adoring and contributing Weres and white lace was a bit of a cop-out to me. I am hoping that in the next entry into this series I get a little more culture, and a little less lying.

All that said—I still plan to dive right into book two, and give this title a shiny three stars.

Like with all the other series I've read, I was left with a lot of questions and way too few answers. I hope some of those questions will find their answers in the next book in the series.

I have read a couple of Thompson's romances and was thrilled she was writing a shifter romance. A nice uncomplicated read, just flat out enjoyable.

Emma writes werewolf novels.... and apparently she does it a little too well, drawing the attention of the local werewolf pack. I did not expect to like this as much as I did. As much as I liked some of the Nerd series by VLT, others of that series were painfully, eyerollingly bad at times. So I picked it up to test out the first chapter, and had trouble putting it down. I ended up reading it in one 3-4 hour sitting. It establishes a compelling family of NYC-based werewolves, as well as showing glimpses of some of the other major cities' packs (to be featured in future books in the series). Just finished A Werewolf in Manhattan and it was really fun.
I enjoyed both the paranormal and romance themes in this book.
Reminds me a bit of Juliet Blackwell (Secondhand Spirits) and MaryJanice Davidson(Undead/Betsy series) lots of fun, smex and supernatural critters.

I'll be honest with you, this is not the type of book you'd read if you were looking to become a Rhodes Scholar, but it's a fun read that will make you both giggle and blush AND wish that that hot guy you know is a werewolf who's s...more

I absolutely ravished A Werewolf In Manhattan. An amazingly written world that makes me wish Werewolves were real. Vicki has an amazing sense of both the human and animal instincts within all of us and brings it to page in the most amazing way. I adore her characters and I wish that I could have spent some more time with them. If you love Paranormal Romance and you love Werewolves then this is definitely the read for you!(less)

Just finished this lovely read. I switched back and forth between listening to the audiobook and reading on my kindle. Clearly I wanted to finish the story.

Emma is a supernatural romance writer who writes fantasies about werewolfs low and behold. they are real and are worried that she might know too much.

Aidan was a fan of her books before he was assigned to tail her. In all the were romances i have read the alpha males are drawn to their scent. no difference here. They travel to chicago where...more
