A day off at the rodeo turns ugly when Kurt invades the area behind the chutes reserved for the bronc riders and the bucking stock, dragging Jake along for the ride. With hostile cowboys, dangerous horses, and a bet about a champion bucking bronco, is there any way they can get out of this in one piece? Or will Kurt's mouth get them both beaten to a pulp?

Cowboys! Kurt and Jake from Singer's Mountain Series! What more could I want? This short also tells a bit more about Kurt and his background. Lovely, lovely read.
Oh oh - is Kurt trying to get himself and Jake beaten up at the rodeo?!

Eight Seconds on the Mountain by PD Singer opens at a rodeo in Jake’s viewpoint as he reluctantly follows his boyfriend Kurt into the restricted area where the broncos are stabled. Kurt wants to look at the horses. Jake keeps his attention on the increasingly hostile cowboys who surround them, and he knows that he and Kurt look out of place dressed in their Forest Service uniforms. He dreads what would happen if these men guess that he and Kurt are lovers.

Chris reminded me of this one when I posted Fall down the Mountain yesterday so I picked it up. Jake and Kurt from the first two mountain books are at the rodeo and Kurt drags Jake into the back where the animals are despite it being forbidden. Just when Jake is sure they are about to get their asses kicked by the cowboys Kurt decides to challenge one of the cowboys to a ride-off on one of the bucking broncs. Jake is totally freaked and Kurt pays the price for his bravado. It was just a cute lit ...more
It's good to see Kurt and Jake again. This time, they are in some farm fair where there's also rodeo. Despite Jake's objection, Kurt insists that he tries to get into the horse. If he can stay for 8 seconds, he'd win the bet against the professional rodeos.

Unlike the first three book, this one is the lightest, and more fun. Not much angst or drama. If there's 'complaint', it's just Kurt seems to be a superhuman with so many skills.

A nice reading for those who follow the series, even though it

Kurt's an idiot, antagonizing rodeo riders with his mouthy backchat! Jake had no idea what he got landed in, its all for a good cause though tution money for Jake. I have to give Kurt credit he is determined and cluey in finding ways of making money, even if its risky at times lol.

Kurt is trying to give Jake heart failure before he even gets to study pharmacy! Both Jake and Kurt survive their trip to the rodeo despite some doubts on my part.

Fun short with the Mountain boys which sketches in a little more background info.
Super short story but it was nice to see Kurt and Jake again.

PD Singer lives in Colorado with her slightly bemused husband, two rowdy teenage boys, and thirty pounds of cats, all of whom approach carefully when she's in a writing frenzy. She's a big believer in research, first-hand if possible, so the reader can be quite certain PD has skied down a mountain face-first, been stepped on by rodeo horses, acquired a potato burn or two, and will never, ever, wri ...more
