Again, A group review. These are the books I run to whenever I wonder what the heck is going on with my children. I read them when they are the age on the cover very quickly--running through the basic themes and elements to remind me of the general developmental stages. Then, I can run to the index and review various issues as they come up.

I mostly enjoyed this book and found its descriptions of how my daughter was developing & would react to common situations to be right on target. However, toward the end of the book, the authors say that you can predict behavior/personality from body type. They lost me there. Sounded too much like phrenology.

I love this series of books. I guess the tone is getting slightly dated at this point, and I know that they're not for everybody, but I've found tons on helpful info to use each year. My oldest just turned 10, and I haven't yet read Your 10-14 year old, but I have it on my bookshelf, and plan to soon.

Learned about these books from "Mothers' Group" friends when my son was a baby. Read these books 6 months ahead of your child's age so that you can see their development clearly unfolding. Perhaps the writing style and cover art might seem dated, but the information is timeless!

This was a great overview of all the changes that happen during the first year. Mostly about the 18 month timeframe. While I didn't agree with all the opinions of the doctor I did feel like it was enough help for me to then make informed decisions with my own child.

I read this book hoping to better understand child development, so that I could better understand how to teach and discipline my child. It mostly focused on activities and toys appropriate for the age - not particularly useful for me.

You've got to love Louise Bates Ames... she's been around forever and her books have great pictures from the seventies of kids and parents. The outfits are priceless!
Not so helpful... I liked her Two-Year Old book better.

Lame. Okay it was kinda funny to read being published in the early 80's but still. All the information you find on BabyCenter.com only a few decades old.

I love this series. It's a HUGE help when my child starts doing something strange, I find that it's completely normal! Whew!

Okay. Info is too general to be that much help. Not enough info on what to do with my fussy fun-loving girl.
