I have been so so with most of this series and have even wondered why I keep reading, but I am so glad that I did as this one is the best one so far!
I really like Raylene, love how blunt she is, how self aware she is about her issues, just not ready to face them. I hated how she was forced to with the disappearance of Tommy. She so wanted to find him, but was scared spit-less to do more than sound the alarm for help.

I never knew much about agoraphobia until I read this title. I enjoy Sherryl Woods' Sweet Magnolias series about the couples and friendships in a gossipy but welcoming small Southern town.
Raylene Hammond's fear of leaving the house is understandable - her ex-husband Paul (the "dream doctor" she thought would take her to a life of wealth and privilege) turns out to be both physically and psychologically abusive. Paul is put in jail after a rant in which he causes Raylene to miscarry their baby. T...more

I really liked the book. Of course I had read some of the other books written by Sheryl Woods about the Sweet Magnolias so it was like reading more about old friends. For some reason the book kept reminding me of another that had an ex husband that the main character was terrified of but the main chracter didn't have agoraphobia.....
The story was very interesting and fun any way. There were some important points made there about dealing with agoraphobia, and another character was struggling with...more

Sherryl Woods is never afraid to tackle the really tough issues we face and she always does it with well-researched but sensitively presented narrative and dialog. In A Slice of Heaven, the second book in the Sweet Magnolias series, she addressed the issue of divorced parents dealing with their teen daughter's anorexia. Well, that daughter is all grown up now, married to the boy who really helped her through that difficult time (see Annie and Ty's story in Home in Carolina) and our attention is...more
This will most likely be the last book I read by this author. Not that the stories are bad, but they're just a little too sweet and predictable. I liked this story though, Raylene was a good character, and the author depicted her problems very well. Carter was a good guy too, but I didn't think his instantaneous attraction and feelings were very believable. It was like, the first time he met her, he disliked her, then he gets "talked to" by her friends and realizes she has a problem, then bam, h...more
"Woods’ is an amazing writer and I love all of her work but the Sweet Magnolias just seems to have a little extra something. ... The emotions on this one were unbelievable. It had a touch of everything. I couldn’t put it down." From a review posted by an eHarlequin.com member, read more Here.
This book was a very realistic look at the advances and back-steps one encounters when trying to tackle the phobia of Agoraphobia. What I liked was that it took well over a year in the book, while in life that could be overly optimistic, for a book, it was a good length of time.
Then another story line followed the severe illness of Anorexia that often hits our youth as well as overachievers. Both these story lines were realistic as the Author correctly stated that these problems are life long a...more

This book was the best of this trilogy, part two of Woods' Sweet Magnolia series. The main character, Raylene, has agoraphobia largely in reaction to an abusive marriage. Despite this, she is a multidimensional character romanced by the Sherriff's deputy, Carter, who initially stereotyped her as a selfish socialite. The plot line revolving around his sister's (Carrie) anorexia is poorly developed. There's no interaction between Carrie and Raylene's friend Annie, who was diagnosed with the same p...more
I really loved this one. I think it had a good mix of previous characters, and new characters. I loved the Walter and Rory Sue storyline as well. Definitely interesting. As for the main characters, I really liked Carter. He was such a good guy that it was hard to find any faults in him. When he was trying to take care of his sisters and also relate to Raylene was so sweet to watch. Raylene was also a very interesting character. Despite her background, she ended up becoming a very strong characte...more

This is the fifth Sherryl Woods book I have read since I started keeping track here and Honeysuckle Summer was pretty much like the others I have read. This is not bad, Woods writes well and I enjoy her stories. She often writes about contemporary issues - in this book the plot revolves around agoraphobia and anorexia.
As I have said many times, romance is my light reading, what I read when I am stressed or just don't want to think while I read. Woods is one of the authors I know I can rely on fo...more

Raylene Hammond is unable to leave the house because of being severely traumatized by abuse from her ex-husband. While she is watching her friend's children, one of them runs away and she is unable to find him because she can't get out the door. She meets a police officer who finds the child and gives her a hard time because he thinks she has been negligent about the children. This book does a good job telling about the problems of agoraphobia, a friendship of women and the love of family.
As I read the intro to this book, I found that this was to be the last of the Sweet Magnolias and I was VERY disappointed and upset as I have truly loved all of the books in the series! This is the last of trilogy within the series, but I didn't realize it was the last period! I was VERY excited a few nights later when I read Sherryl's FB post that she has decided to continue the series and the next book will be out in 2012! Hurray!!! I highly recommend this series!!
Raylene is the third of the next generation of Sweet Magnolias. She's come back home to escape an abusive husband, who's now in jail for that abuse, staying with Sarah and helping take care of the children--but she can't leave the house without a panic attack. So when Sarah's little boy takes off to chase the ice cream truck (or something like that), she can't chase after him, and the deputy who comes to handle the call is all judgmental--but you just know that's going to change right quick. It'...more
This is yet another second generation Sweet Magnolia book, the story of Raylene Hammond and Deputy Carter Rollins. The two "issues" dealt with are agorophobia on Raylene's part and anorexia on Carter's sister's part. I found the agonizing over these two issues just as annoying as they must be in real life. This series doesn't compare with Woods' earlier books.
Sherryl Woods hit it out of the park, again! Carter and Raylene have to be one of my favorite couples! They just did it for me.. I don't know why I but I smiled the whole way through. I emailed one of my reading buddies throughout and just kept saying you will never believe you will never believe .. heheheh.. They were enjoyable, the bantering -- Carter is a solid kind of guy... Then the romance with Rory Sue and Walter wow wee.. I do hope she continues with the series.. you can't leave a girl h...more
I enjoyed this novel; Sherryl Woods captures the South very well. She takes on an agoraphobic heroine and writes sensitively about a domestic violence situation.
I felt like this would have been a great novel if Woods would would just tell the story and not write to the romance novel formula.
Rated PG for mild language and sexual innuendo.

Bagus... Paling bagus dari 3 seri Sweet Magnolia generasi kedua. Di sinopsis belakang, ditulis bshwa cerita ini sedih menyayat hati, yang ternyata emang bener.
Kasian liat kehidupannya Raylene. Kalo bicara soal Carter, jadi berasa pengalaman pribadi. Ortu meninggal when I was 21 years old and my youngest sist was only 9 years old. Yah, emanng yang paling ribet tuh pas masa remajanya, umur 14 tahun ke atas. Yah gitu deh, baca novel ini aku simpati banget ama Carter, sami mawon dengan apa yang kuala...more

Yet another fun Sweet Magnolia story. I love the growth of the characters within this story. The fact the ex-husband was getting out of jail, and would come back to haunt everyone kept the reader on our toes. You never knew exactly when he was going to arrive. It was a great story with great characters.
This was the 7th book (final) in the Sweet Magnolia Series. The first three books in this series were really good. The 4th, 5th and 6th books were not as good. They were a little to predictable and boring. This last book redeemed itself. Although it follows the same pattern as the other books in the series the story in this book was much more interesting.

Love those Sweet Magnolias this storyline was good. Agoraphobia is very debilitating but can be overcome. I liked the author's treatment of the subject with her romantic characters. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I like this series a lot. I think Raylene's story unfortunately speaks to a lot of women who have to overcome a past abusive relationship. I think her agoraphobia is an extreme reaction but one I am sure a lot of women fight to get past. This was a story of hope, love, and the ability to open your heart again.

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
