Stephanie Newton does an excellent job of keeping you in suspense and having plenty of could be guilty characters. I also appreciate the way she brings people from the previous books back onto the scene to make it one long continued story even though each book is a new suspense and romance. This is the fourth book in the Emerald Coast 911 series.

Matt Clark and Lara Hughes are both firefighters and partners. Matt had asked Lara out about six months before and it almost ruined their partnership. N...more

I wish there was a "three-and-one-half: star category, as none of these are REALLY worth four stars. Nevertheless, this was one of the best of the series, even though a little "preachy" in a couple spots. The story itself was very exciting, though I am tired of the subtle misogyny [the man always rescues the woman:]. Even with that, it was a fun read.
A large part of why i liked this one is due to the fact that Matt and Lara were firends when the novel started (with Matt wanting more). It makes the transition into romance more believable.

This was a nice quick read in between chapters of Fall of Giants. Part of a series set in Florida; there is one more that I will read before going back to FoG.

Steph lives in Northwest Florida and gains lots of inspiration from the sugar white sand, aqua blue-green water of the Gulf of Mexico and the many, many unusual things you see when you live on the beach. When she's not in her chair with her laptop, she can most often be found enjoying the water with her family, or at church, where she makes the coffee and her husband preaches the sermons.
