1) Cripes, they have manga on this thing?

2) I'm only going to do the most recent volume because I don't want to write 13 separate reviews.

3) Hiromu Arakawa's series has a lot going for it. For me, manga usually falls into one category or the other: either there's lots of cool action and weird enemies and not enough focus on the characters or there's a lot of focus on the characters and not much plot that doesn't have to do with romantic hijinks (and then there's CLAMP, but that's a whole other a

Am I supposed to hate Scar? Because I actually love him. He's just so sad and tortured and using the thing he hates most for his revenge.... I might have a type when it comes to my favorite characters. ;) of course adding in a dash of adorable never hurts either. ;) him helping the little girl find her panda was BEYOND precious.

This book also features a lot of creepy & fucked up scenes & art, so me like. :) envy? On my god, they are fucking terrifying. & badass.

Volume 13 of Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa opens with Ed, Lin and Envy accidentally being eaten by Gluttony. They end up on the other side of an imperfect portal. Gluttony it turns out is larger on the inside than the outside but he can't be used for traveling through time or space.

Al and Gluttony, both at a loss with the disappearance of Lin, Ed and Envy, form an uneasy alliance. It will be the first of many between old enemies as the series progresses. Together they head back to Centra

Lo and behold! The plot thickens. We start figuring out more of the Big Bad's plans (and how they've failed thus far) and we realize, yet again, that the evil bastards in this story are far from dumb.

I still love this series a lot.

It was a very quick read, but this volume was sort of slow. Although things are starting to get a lot more serious and darker.

This is about two brothers that commited the most scared transmutation in all of the world. Edward Elric is 16 years old and he has a metal arm and metal leg. He is also working for the military. Alphonse Elric is 15 years old and his soul resends in a suit of armor. They are in the woods with a two homocuili named after two of the deadly sins of the world. they are called, Envy and Gluttony. In unlucky volume 13 various characters together or on their own realize that in their arrogance, their hubris, they have done something that has unveiled to them just how unprepared they are and just how far in to really serious trouble they have gotten. The brothers along with the Prince of Xing attempt to capture and take down a homunculus only to seriously underestimate the depth of their power and the extent to which they have already gone to get what they want. Fullmetal Alchemist, some people just think of it as a book, others think of it as a person, and yet others think what is a fullmetal alchemist. Well in this book, number 13 of the series, a lot of things happened. Those, for a lack of a better word, things were both fast paced and slow. The cover of this book was intriguing, once I read it I figured out why Hiromu Arakawa choose this picture as the cover.
First of all this isn’t the first book I read in the series, i.e. number 13, and I knew som

The majority of this volume follows Ed and Prince Lin who are trapped in a strange dimension with Envy. In figuring out their situation and how to resolve it, Ed finds answers to some of his other lingering questions. Of course, Envy can’t be trusted very far, so even though all three are attempting to solve the same problem and get back to their world, Envy won’t cooperate any more than he absolutely has to.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Al and Gluttony team up to do their part in getting their

LIN, ENVY AND ED ARE SWALLOWED BY GLUTTONY!!!!!!! ENVY TRUE FORM IS REVEALED!!! I REALLY LIKED THAT PART! She looked awesome! SO GOOD! THEY MEET ED'S FATHER! Also, a horrible secret about King Bradly is revealed!!! My favorite part in this one was when Ed said to Lin (something along the lines of), 'Hang do I know you're not Envy in disguise?' And Lin said, 'You want me to recite the whole menu top to bottom from that hotel you guys stayed at?' Ed: 'Okay, you're him.' And then Lin said, ...more

This book is just amazing. †here is nothing left to say really. There is an amazing main character named Edward and he has a younger brother named Alphonse. There is a science called alchemy. Alchemy is the law of equal trade. There are things called Humunculi and they are invincible. Edward and Alphonse are trying to destroy the Humunculi and get the philosopher stone because of an east war incident.

The opening fight sequence between the brothers, Lin, and Envy was one of the best battle scenes I've read in a manga -- Arakawa brilliantly choreographs fast moving but coherent action, where all to often manga artists do the former while failing at the latter. She continues to parcel out small pieces of information about the homonuculi, just enough to keep you interested, but holding back enough to keep you on edge. The only problem is that 13 volumes in, there are enough sub-plots and charact ...more
What can I say but Ewww! Sloshing through blood! Yep, the yuck factor is pretty high in this volume. Quite a bit of this volume is spent inside of Gluttony, who likes to swallow his victims. Supposedly, there is no way to escape, once a victim has been swallowed. Edward is out to prove that wrong.

Meanwhile, Mustang learns the full truth of how deep the military is involved with the conspiracy. Things are looking pretty bad for our small group of heroes. Do they have any hope of stopping the horr

The long awaited volume finally arrived! And in the first few pages we get to see Envy calling Ed little and getting the holy crap kicked out of him. Loved the look of surprise on his face. This volume also contains the voyage to Gluttony's belly, Roy's team getting reassigned, King Bradley's back story, and Ed's first look at Al's flesh body since the human transmutation (OMG Al! flails around for a moment!). Very short section of extras in this volume. Totally worth the wait, of course. On to ...more

Things go from weird to even more weird as Lin, Ed and even a certain shape shifter, find themselves someplace. That place which happens to be Gluttony's stomach...wait what? Like I said, this was just weird. And of course we see the true form of Envy and I was like whoa, how will Ed and Lin fight against Envy now? The story gets more and more interesting that makes you think something's going to happen, but what?
God! Cliffhanger! Ugh...
Shocking and fascinating discoveries, action and alchemy! This volume was one of a fantastic journey!
Edward Elric is perfect! I even love his short temper which I don't really like in people, but he makes up for it. So clever, kind and trustworthy.)
Envy did something good this time. *clap* *clap*

Action-packed, thickening plot, three-dimensional characters, and humor drizzled on each character, Fullmetal Alchemist is a book that should definitely be read by all. Left me with tears in my eyes and a warm heart for every character that you meet along Ed and Al's long journey.

The two things I like best about this series:

(1) Edward Elric never ever gives up.

(2) The depths we get to see in nearly every character at some point in the telling of the story. Nobody is all good and nobody is all bad: even the most evil-seeming characters have some explanation for how they got to be what the now are. Everyone is complicated, just like in reality. That this can be pulled off with so few words -- just dialogue -- amazes me.
This volume just didn't take hold of me the way others have of late. Perhaps I'm reading them in too quick succession. Perhaps I'm just overloaded. But the fate of Ed (and others) as they find themselves within Gluttony's gullet, just didn't really excite me. It did add pieces to the puzzle, but I'm not sure it really made anything clearer

Almost a 5-star but Gluttony's stomach is shudderific.

Still, lots of good stuff in this volume. Mostly concerning the Fuhrer, who is, as I've said before, a BAMF. Father might be the big villain but the Fuhrer makes things happen and in this volume, we get his backstory and see him tighten the screws to Mustang. Good, good stuff.

Lin, Ed and Envy have all be swallowed by Gluttony and in the process of trying to escape some important information is revealed. I thought this was a great issue because it got into some important information but it did it in the middle of A LOT of action.

Plus the ending! AHhh! I must know what/how/why?!
