Selena is a little girl “who does not walk so much as twirl.” When her mother takes her to Miss Tutu’s school of ballet, Selena has a bit of trouble with some of the steps, but still she practices and practices to get them right. I adore Miss Tutu's Star. This children's book is one thats uplifts children to go for their dreams even if they are scared. Selena is a lovely little girl who loves to twirl and dance all over town. Her mother has decided to take Selena to Miss Tutu's dance school. In the beginning, Selena has a rough start with the moves but she eventually becomes a great dancer. The problem comes with the night of the big show where Selena will be performing. She was very scared but Selena received encouragem...more

Scraggly Selena is not your typical pretty blond baby at ballet. She falls. She struggles. But Miss Tutu, the sort of ballet teacher my girl and I have been lucky to have tells her, "What matters most is from the start, My dear you've always danced with heart."

Aspiring ballerinas of all ages will cheer Selena on as she perseveres and shows her love of dance. A terrific little book with a wonderful message. Because even if I never manage those durned arabesque pirouettes, I will dance and dance w...more

I like this one far more than Not Just Tutus, as far as poems about ballet go. For one, this has a rhyme scheme. It's still about the love of dance, but focused on one girl. The illustrations are pretty and detailed; Miss Tutu is kind of annoying (she pretty much ignores all the other dancers) but Selena is a cute character. Overall, I recommend this for little girls (and little boys) who love to dance.

Selena dreams of being a dancer, and what she lacks in skill she makes up for in heart. After years of practicing, she takes the stage. This book has a nice message about perserverance, but I was confused by the title. If the book is about Selena, why does her teacher get all of the credit?

Loved the illustrations in this story about a little girl who loves to dance. Reminds me of my youngest. Her mother enrolls her in Miss Tutu' school where she becomes a ballerina.

Lovely book!

The illustrations are beautiful and really add elements to the story that are not in the text (such as precocious cat). The story itself is about a little girl who LOVES to dance and a ballet instructor who encouraged her even when she some times fell. The girl sticks through it and as time goes by, she can perform in her own recital and does beautifully.

It's a sweet story with beautiful illustrations and very positive "work hard" and lead with your heart message that is inspiring a...more

I do love it when there is glitter on a cover. :) This is a very cute story with a very purposeful message. However I have to admit that I am not really a fan of the artwork, it's just not my cup of tea. I love this book for the french ballerina terminology. Girls love to dance, and this book shows just how important it is that the adults in their lives show them encouragement. It is possible to achieve your goals.
