Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul
There are many ways to define a woman: daughter, mother, wife, professional, friend, student... We are each special and unique, yet we share a common connection. What bonds all women are our mutual experiences of loving and learning: feeling the tenderness of love; forging lifelong friendships; pursuing a chosen career; giving birth to new life; juggling the responsibiliti...more

I would never have read this book if it were not chosen by my book club. That is a good thing. One of the purposes of the club is to expand our horizons. Although I did not like the book, I do believe I got something out of reading it. I understand some people a little bit better, my family especially. I am often confronted by my family with the ways that I do not act like a "woman". They are waiting for me to "grow up". To them, my life is like an extended adolescence. This is despite the fact...more
This book has good, inspiring stories of women who have done it all, from childhood memories to growing old and wiser. A couple of the stories had me tearing up.
I have a few favorites that stick out. One called "The Wind Beneath Her Wings" is a story about Jean Harper, one of the first three female pilots for United Airlines. The woman's dream was always to be a pilot, and first everyone told her she couldn't, or she didn't have chance. She Almost believed that, until one teacher told her to liv...more

A friend loaned me two Chicken Soups', the one for the Woman's Soul and the one for the Golden (both of which I definitely fit). I started them out of guilt (I wanted to return them and knew I would get questioned) and finished them out of enjoyment. They are composed of brief essays by an assortment of people, most of who deal with the motivational. I thought they would be horribly pedestrian (and some parts are), but most are entertainingly written and all have a moral. Kind of an Aesop's Fabl...more

I'm a woman, so this book applies to me right? Or at least that's what I thought. However, I think the authors of this book have a very narrow sight on what it means to be a woman. But more on that later. This book is one of the very many versions of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books out there. These books are known for their uplifting short stories that are meant to inspire, make you feel good, or just make you cry.

My children tend to give me books for gifts quite often. It's appreciated and it keeps me in tuned to life and the appreciation we should all have for it along the way. The Chicken Soup books are some of their faves to pass on to me because they know I'm a rather, spiritually philosophical type of person who will cry with joy at the drop of a hat.
So true. This book, fulfilled its expectation of the Chicken Soup book. It definitely forms a sisterhood with other women. Loved it.

not sure if this is the exact edition I read since I already returned it to the library and don't remember the cover image.
Normally I am fine with sappy, but half the stories in this book made me embarrassed to be a woman because they were SO CHEESY. Too much.
The sections on "Marriage" and "Overcoming Adversity" had some pretty good stories however. Worth skimming.

This was truly inspirational. Woman who are faced with all types of challenges rise to the occasion. I laughed, cried, and felt inspired by the many stories. Eleanor Roosevelt said it best. "If you want to know how strong a woman is, put in your hot water." I might not have that exactly, but the sentiment is the same. A great book for all woman and men who love them.

Full of wonderful true stories from other women. I read this book many years ago when feeling less happy with myself and my life. Many of the stories struck a chord and helped me move on. Well worth a read if you looking for support and inspiration.
NOTE: Having a box of tissues handy would be a good idea when reading some of the stories.

I read this book in a single sitting... the stories within were so good that I was unable to put it down until I finished it. I found many of the stories to be quite engrossing, and several touched my heart in ways I hadn't expected. That's really saying something for me, because in the past, whenever I saw one of the 'Chicken Soup' books, I wouldn't even bother to pick it up to read so much as the book jacket. I'd heard so much about how wonderful they were supposed to be that it put me off rea...more

i am so emotional and i have to keep putting this book down because i cry on every page, and then look lovingly upon my own child.
This is the first Chicken Soup book I read in a few years. I enjoyed it a great deal. All of the stories were inspiring and some, thought provoking. Some of the other Chicken Soup books I have read in the past include, "Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul," "Chicken Soup for the Soul of America," and a few others.
