This was a disappointing read. I love a good alpha Highlander story and had high hopes for this one, but it was a below-average-couldn’t-wait-to-finish-it kind of read :-/
It took a long time for the h/h to get together once they could actually be together and there were long scenes where they were never together which made the story annoying. Too much attention was paid to boring details about other people that no one cares about. Even the steam was blah.

I loved this twist on the typical Highlander series. Instead of taking place in Scotland, or having them go back in time to the time of Highlanders we get Highlanders whom are thrown into the future. Into our modern times (well 2003). The twist brought along a lot of new aspects that I really liked such as the Clan/males learning the value or women and seeing them as equals, while still keeping their Alpha-Male and occasionally cave man personalities. I admit that I do still like the novels were...more
So I started this book in 2009 and just finished it now, at the end of 2012, because I was skimming through my Kindle books and realized I had just given up on this book but I was like 85% of the way done. Well, now I know why I didn't bother finishing it.
What a stupid book! The plot did not seem necessary at all. Why did Grey and his MacKeage warriors have to be transported from Medieval Scotland to 21st century (a time period that the "heroine" Grace constantly mentioned) America? There are p...more

"None of them looks like Grace," Ian observed. "They're bigger and much rougher around the edges. And one of them, what was his name? Brian, I think she called him. He looks as if he eats babies for breakfast."
Grey noted the inflection of praise in Ian's voice for that possibility.

The first book in Janet Chapman's Highlander series is full of both humorous and tender moments. It starts off on a somber note with the heroine dealing with the death of her beloved sister, but soon picks up its pace with the addition of our hero Greylen and an unexpected plane crash. The interaction between the characters was definitely comical at times and sweet at others. My favorite thing about this book was that in addition to the sweet/humorous romance the author touched a bit on the hard...more
I didn't love this book as much as the fourth book, but it was still a good highlander romance with the added aspect of some paranormal elements. This book's main character was Greylen, a sexy hero who is trying to still assimilate into modern culture after being ripped out of his own time period in Scotland. He finds himself on a plane ride back to his home when he meets Grace Sutter, sister to one of his neighbors. When he first sees her he thinks there might be something special about her, bu...more

This romance happened sooo quick. Like 6 days start to finish. Granted the whole shebang starts off with a tragic death, instant attraction, babies, and a dramatic plane crash…that’s like 6 years of action tucked into less than a week of time…guess they didn’t need day seven, but hey, don’t we all need a day of rest?
Though it was fast I found myself very wrapped up in the action. I liked the survival aspects of it all. It was a lot of emotion very quickly, but this served to enhance (or excuse)...more

On a whim at the library I picked up "A Highlander Christmas" because it had a dachshund on the cover and that's my favorite breed of dog. Once I realized this was part of a series and it involved time travel, I figured I needed to start with the first book in the series. That's this one and though it's well written, about 75 pages into this I decided that time travel is just not going to work for me as a series. I was getting confused.

When I first became addicted to reading, Janet Chapman's Highlander series was what hooked me. This was before I had an ereader and I had found her series in a used bookstore and thought why not. Anyway, long story short, I have since read all her books but forgot about her because there were a few years she didn't print anything. So now I'm looking through Amazon for a new book to read and there she is on my recommendations. Awesome! I now have a new book to read tonight.

This is a perfect formula romance, with totally cliche ingredients. Take one time traveling Scotsman. Add muscles and old-world values.
Toss in a modern woman with genius-level technological smarts. Stir in a liberal spoonful of strong will.
For variety, throw in a dash of family drama, and an ancient feud. Sprinkle with slight trauma.
Let simmer for length of book.
Viola! Yummy romance. And there's a reason the formula works.

Now they are pushed together out of survival, but a deep passion is awakened between them...a passion that burns slowly to a deep love that will change their lives forever.....more
This book is seriously convoluted!
It starts off (and I was under the impression it was) as a time travel story. But after the initial leap through time that plot point is not entirely but in a large part brushed aside. There are no anecdotes of confusion and learning "the new culture" as we see in most stories of this kind. We just skip to 5 years later. I just don't get the point?!
The rest of the plot is just as arbitrary and confusing. Grace the heroine has a job that makes no sense and an "e...more

The description of this book (even the paragraph here at Goodreads) is misleading... Yes, Grace is a rocket scientist. Yes, she meets Grey, transported from 12th century Scotland 4 years earlier, on a plane. Yes, the tiny prop job plane does crash. BUT... Grace has a baby with her, and the crash happens only a few miles away from home and help. The entire book isn't really about Grey and Grace trying to survive the crash and a wintry storm... it's about whether Grey and Grace are true matches, w...more
I'm torn. I read time travels. I like the sub-genre. This just didn't feel like a time travel, mostly because it wasn't. Other than the prologue, and the occasional mention of time travel w/ regards to the father of the baby, it was straight up contemporary. It also managed to cram a whole lot into 4 days. Or was it 6. The author couldn't keep it straight how many days had passed in the adventure/story and there was so much going on that you couldn't keep it straight either.

Charming the Highlander seems to get very mixed reviews here on GR, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Was I going to love it, hate it, or not care enough to be moved either way? The answer is.... none of the above. While I didn't quite love it, I really liked it and found it to be an easy and highly enjoyable read.

This was an okay read, actually closer to 3.5*, but after a great beginning, it didn't grab me until I got to the last 80 pp. or so. A story that begins with 8 Scottish warriors fighting a skirmish in the 12th century & suddenly being transported to modern times intrigued me. Maybe the problem was with my expectations, but I just found it too easy to put down and do other things, always a bad sign for me.

I normally don't pick up these books at the bookstore. However, I figured I would give this one a shot after a co-worker recommended it. I must say i was surprised that I actually enjoyed this book. I did like the romance in it. I did like Grey's character and I don't know why but it was sexy that he was a Scott and saying "lass"... The only thing that was really annoying to me throughout the whole book was the baby's non- name "Baby". I enjoyed this book enough to know that I will be reading th...more
I liked the idea of the book: highlander, time travel, romance and snow (yes, I love snow) but unfortunately I found this story a bit of a miss. It starts off really sad with a death of a loved one and some really emotional scenes; if that is your sort of thing I think you will love this, but I read to escape the stress of real life. I found that it set the tone for the rest of the book. The story chugged along without engaging me and I was pleased to finally get to the end.

Great book. Solid, lovable characters, very interesting plot. Unusual circumstances. I thought the author was a little wordy. I'm not really sure how to describe it, it was just several times throughout the book where I actually got distracted from the story by the words. Overall though it was pretty decent. And the sneak preview in the back for the next book in the series left me quite excited about the next one.

Greylen MacKeage had never given much thought to marriage after the death of his fiancee. Meeting Grace Sutter, Greylen had to face the fact that his trip from twelfth century Scotland to modern day Maine made everything worth while.
A delightful tale. Fast-paced with a wonderful mixture of rugged Highland magic and modern day science.

A time traveling Highlander sent to modern day Maine by a Wizard who then poses as a priest to connect with the woman meant to be his mate and parent the wizards successor. That's the premise in a sentence. An interesting concept that is a lot of fun and the beginning of a multi-book series. I'll be continuing with the next book in the series.
I re-read this over Christmas break and despite the fact that the magical bits tend to be a bit silly, I do love the interactions between the heroine and hero - a twentith century womand and a twelfth century man. Despite the cliche nature, the archetype of a feisty heroine and dominating male still makes for an enjoyable story.
I had some high hopes for this series since it came reccomended to me by someone that shares the same interests when it comes to a good romance. I just felt it fell a bit flat in terms of the story and the pacing didn't flow at all. I like a little bit of intelligence with my romance and this one didn't carry enough for me.
