3.5 stars Sometimes after a hard day, you just need to slip into your worn old flannel pyjamas and eat a bowl of ice cream. After reading a thoroughly vexing book late last night, I really needed a little comfort...and this one did not disappoint!

Layney and Jimmy are co-editors of their school newspaper who hate each other. They're doing a teen male calendar as a fundraiser, so for in-depth profiles (hah!) about the guys, Layney is "maneuvered" (hah!) by Jimmy into going on dates with all the bo...more

I’m almost as big of a sucker for stories like this - stories where the protagonist and the love interest start off hating each other - as for stories of bad boys falling for good girls. The reason for this is probably that I can relate to these kind of stories extremely well, seeing as my own boyfriend and I used to hate each other’s guts and were less than thrilled at the beginning when things started to change between us.

I got this from Amazon for only 2.21$ and went into it with really low e...more

So Over You by Gwen Hayes was a short, heart-warming yet delectable read.

This little story has so many great witty lines and the chemistry between Logan and Foster, was electrifying.

Layney is the tough girl reporter, with one goal in mind: to make her senior year as co-Chief Editor a success, and bring the school paper back on top.

Jimmy is her arch nemesis, ex-boyfriend and her co-Chief Editor; seems to be out to get her and constantly ruffl...more

For a while I've been wanting to read this. After I finished Falling Under, I found this on the internet and decided to read it because I loved Falling Under so much. I gave up shortly after because...well I'm a book lover. I prefer physical books over ebooks anyday. Eventually I grew desperate enough to search for this on Amazon and ended up getting this in a package with Totally Tubular. Hey it was free, so why not? I get not one but two free books by Gwen Hayes. :)

I went into this expecting t...more

I really liked this book. It was really funny in the beginning, I loved the objectifying cats thing and her names for Foster; Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, I thought it was hilarious, but I also got a sense that it was a little sad because she seemed to mean them, but sometimes got a glimpse of pain and feelings for him, showing that she really didn't. Then it got more serious towards the end, with good reason. I loved the banter and the way they acted but then couldn't help but like each other. I...more

SO OVER YOU satisfies something that’s been missing in what I’ve been reading lately:

It’s funny...
on purpose.

More often than not, I laugh at how ridiculous I find a scenario or at how improbable I find certain events in books. And while this one does have a serious side, it’s laughter that was in mind when a girl “married to her job” is forced to go on twelve blind dates.

So, funny? Check.

It’s also fun when a lead is likable in how off-center she is. And she knows that she’s neurotic too. Too...more

By 39% in I decided this book wasn't for me. It's a little crude and not what I was expecting. The premise was cute and had a lot of potential. I loved the idea of Layney having to go on 12 blind dates for the school paper. The dates were all a kind of a let down and some pretty creepy. And I could tell Layney had something bad happen to her "way back when" and I didn't want to find out what.
Disappointing.

This book took me by surprise. It seems like a regular, cute contemporary read, but it dealt with some really serious issues and not just the problem of "my high school newspaper doesn't have funding."

Layney is a very likable, relatable protagonist. Many people, especially your typical high schoolers may find that she is bossy and uptight, but I still liked her. The lines with her and Foster were hilarious! Those two are meant to be! I thought the reason to why...more

i really enjoyed this book. when i first looked at it i thought it would just be another book about a slight misunderstanding and two stubborn MCs that refused to talk but it wasn't. Layney was raped and felt unclean because of it and that was why she broke up with her then boyfriend(its a bit more complex than that but thats the gist of it). i really loved their banter and insult sharing and i like the fact tht although when they did have tmes when thye ignored each other or were upset they we...more

CHARACTERS || I loved Logan and Foster, 'nuff said. They had a real love-hate relationship. Their bickering and sweetness made my tummy dance every now and then. The supporting characters weren't that bad either. I actually had a thing for Abercrombie model for awhile. But Foster can be really... spontaneous (I guess) but yeah, they can be really REALISTIC.

WRITING || It's gorgeously written. I can't explain enough, you'll just have to read it for yourself! But le...more

I ♥ this book. 5 stars all the way!

After DNFing many books because I couldn't really get into them, I decided to give this a try because of Wendy's review. I was rather skeptical because of my new strange habit - abandoning a book within 30 pages and getting restless to find a new book. I'm really glad I picked this up. This book is a light, upbeat read. And the heroine was someone I could both admire and be friends with.

This book is not perfect. Nor is it the best YA I have ever read. But it w...more

I would say that the title should have been "Calender Girl." So basically Layney is forced to go on 12 blind dates by her nemesis, Jimmy Foster. Yes, they share history. Yes, they banter and flirt all the time. He checks her cell's batteries, plays the chaffeur and even the chaperone for all the dates.
"Lucifer" also keeps her safe. By the middle of the book, I am wondering why they broke up.But then there is a twist. Pretty good one at that. So Layney has some issues she has to work with and th...more

Sometimes you just need to curl up with a good romance novel (or in my case, romance e-book) and So Over You was my perfect choice for that. Funny, quirky, full of stomach churning romance and some serious backstory, it was just one of those books I couldn't put down.

It follows the story of Layney London, a high school journalist trying to keep the school paper going. Like many, I had problems with this at first. Not so much that she was a journalist and co-editor for the school paper but the f...more

I wasn't really expecting anything great about So Over You that's why it took me so long to read this. But when one of my closest friends read this and gushed all about it on Twitter, I was motivated to start on this.

So Over You is the story of Layney Logan. She's co-chief editor of the school paper with Jimmy Foster, one who she'd continuously dubbed as the devil and Satan. I actually chuckled whenever Layney spouts demonic references when talking to and about Jimmy.

What the paper needed was a...more

I have an aversion to high school-aged "professionals", particularly reporters. I blame this on Rory Gilmore, ostensible Ace Reporter (who was supposedly brilliant, but never chased a story and was generally too timid for conflict). So, I was already pre-disposed not to like Layney Logan. Layney's references to Philip Marlowe and what she's done to "get the story" had me rolling my eyes pretty hard. (It's always mentioned vaguely and in the past tense. I have no idea what big story a high school...more

One of my favorite new authors!
Very funny and smart. It's refreshing when the heroines
are clever and on the unconventional side of things (like say,
journalism club).

The plot was cute and silly (well, mostly. Keep reading). Laney refuses to date high school boys but is sent on 12 dates with boys from various clubs/activities at school in the name of investigative journalism for the upcoming calender. It was entertaining to see how she handled all the silly situations she got into, as well as he...more

Layney Logan and her arch-enemy Jimmy Foster are co-editors of their high school students newspaper. But the newspaper is feeling the squeeze of the dying industry. With its funding being cut and the inability to publish a print copy the staff is forced to move the paper online and come up with their own fund-raising scheme. The solution... a 12-month calendar featuring a guy from all the clubs in the school. The only catch... Layney, who has sworn off high school boys, has to go out on a date w...more

it was GREAt, awesome, fun read.
Alas! IT WAS ALL THINGS I DIDN'T EXPECT..in a good way.

2 EX's. sharing Editor-in-chief role. a challenge. 12 dates.

You would've thought (just like what I first did) the story is the usual 2 ex's who hate each other to death fall back in love again. Well, the book surprised me in many ways I wouldn't have thought it would.

After all the happy moments, where the happy meter constantly binged up, constant banterings, funny and witty remarks, sarcastic lines,..I thoug...more

This definitely merits 4 1/2 stars because it was really well-written and fun.
It was at times funny and sad and hopeful and depressing, but it did what it was supposed to do. It made you both think and feel.
Think of the ways you push people away just because you are afraid of yourself, them, fate, circumstance and everything in between.
It made you think of the ways you keep secrets from people even when you don't have to, even when letting out and opening your heart could really be the remedy t...more

“The devil was his most dangerous when he wasn't being devilish.”

Ok I have to admit that I didn't go into this expecting much. I am kinda in that spot at the moment where everything I have read lately has been very dark or serious and I needed something light and fluffy to even it out. The only problem was searching through my kindle and my to read shelf all I found was a lot of doom and gloom or angst and then I remembered that I got this book very cheaply ages ago. I had to take down my rating notch because I was kind of disappointed.

NOTE: Never, ever, ever have high expectations for a book. Especially one you're hoping to read in the future and have no idea about. So Over You is an excellent example of such a book, at least, for me. If I'm offending anyone, I apologize; maybe I'm just the odd one out, but unfortunately, I really did have expectations for this book.

First thought post-reading: Awwwwww.

Not many books can turn me into a puddle of mush after only 40,000 words -- but this one managed it. So Over You is just one of those books that managed to dig its claws into my sensitive side and wring the smiles and sighs from me again and again.

High school senior Layney Logan is not happy. Her beloved newspaper, the Follower, has been moved to online-only format after budget cuts at her school downgraded the school newspaper to a j...more

Wow. So Over You is a really nice read. Perfect for a cloudy weather. In fact, I read this one while having a sip of my coffee in front of the TV while I'm having my manicure and pedicure. I was surprised because I liked it from the start to the end. Even though the story was short, the ending didn't appear to be rushed. It fell accordingly. There was a great deal of emotions involved. It was full of humor and drama. The characters w...more

I don`t know about this one...It was easy on the eyes really, how the writer wrote this book to suit her young readers. Actually, I think this one was more on the romance proved by its end as a major curled up fluff, but it was bearable.

This is a story about a school investigative journalist, Layney Logan who went on dates with 12 guys just to write a report on it or something like that by her co-chief editor, Lucifer Foster. I mean, Jimmy Foster, also her ex of four years. So off she went to t...more

This was an unusual purchase for me, because, while I read YA, I so far have purchased very little YA fiction in e-book form. Also, I don't often read YA contemporary fiction - too much of a chance that serious/angsty real-life issues will come up (which basically is what happened in this one). After I finished Second Son of a Duke, one of Hayes' stories written for adults, I wanted to try more of her works, and the description of So Over You appealed to me.

I enjoyed the book most when it was li...more

I thought this was a cute and sweet, light hearted romance story. The blind date twist added a unique twist on the story and it was fun to watch Layney experience the blind date rollercoaster. What i didn't like about it was that it seemed like as the story when on, the dates were given a backseat to Layney's other conflicting emotions and issues. I thought the secret that Layney revealed towards the end was surprising. It added a differetn dimension to the story and made Layney a more relate ab...more

The book is about exactly what you read in the blurb plus a little more. I won't go into that because if you are interested in reading the book it'll spoil the fun. Instead, let's get straight into my review.

The beginning was great; it had me laughing (really!) and you definitely knew the characters were a perfect fit for each other (great chemistry).

As the book continues, it begins to lag and pick up again every once in a while. You get to learn a little about the characters' history together t...more

So Over You was one of those fluffy cute romance novels that just leave you feeling happy at the end. The book is about a girl named Layney Logan who recently became co-editor of the school newspaper with her arch rival Jimmy Foster.

The paper decides they want to do a calendar featuring boys from all the different sports/clubs and somehow Layney gets roped into doing blind dates with all 12 in order to write stories about them all.

The blind dates are really cute and funny. The one where she me...more

This is the first book by Gwen Hayes I have read and I really enjoyed this story. Layney Logan was such an incredible character and well defined. It’s Layney’s senior year and she is co-chief editor with Beelzebub (aka Jimmy Foster) her arch nemesis. With funding and cuts, the Journalism class is about to be void but Layney is determined to keep it alive and running no matter the cost.

Layney is set up on 12 random dates for a fundraising calendar which is anything but enticing to her. A...more
