Haha so this book's story-line has very little truth about it. There is some truth to the some of the places they go to and the description about mummification is accurate. I still think it is a great book because of its ability to tickle your imagination. It goes off the basis of being a replica of an actual book, journal rather, found that depicts an expedition to find the tomb of Osiris. The story is complete with curses and the supernatural realm of an Egyptian deity that may have been r More...

It was a fantastic imaginary journal of travelling through Egypt in the 1920s. Filled with beautiful pictures / sketches and things like a brochure you would get from a museum etc, it was really an enjoyable trip. This book is made to be a 'facsimile' of the original journal of Emily Sands, ie. it's made to look and feel like the original journal with papers / postcards / brochures being stuck at certain places and folded in certain ways, sketches with commentaries, etc. It was done really we More...

The study of the Egyptian culture has sadly been removed from the current curriculum. As a student I always loved learning about the pyramids and the Egyptian world. The book “Egyptology” is actually the journal of Emily Sands who travelled to Cairo exploring “the mysterious land of the Egyptians”. The illustrations are a very detailed look into the Egyptian culture. Sand’s journal contained objects or souvenirs from her travels. By keeping them in More...

A book to treasure!!

I am a life-long Egyptology buff, and co-author of a novel, Secret of the Sands, that is set in Egypt and I was absolutely thrilled to receive this as a Christmas present one year. It has sat proudly showcased on my main bookshelf ever since. Not only is it a lovely book to look at, the design of its interior is like leafing through the personal notebook of an Egypt-traveller. Its fun design includes all kinds of interesting things to open & unravel. It is a book th More...

I don't believe I had read the story inside this book. (Do they all vanish/die mysteriously in the end? Perhaps I'm confusing this with another tale.) No, Egyptology was passed among my classmates six or so years ago with reverence and the cry, "MUMMY WRAPPINGS!"

(Why, yes. A book deserves four stars simply by displaying fake mummy rags.)

I don't think this is the best ology book compared to Mythology wizardology or oceanology but I still liked all the things inside it... I'll have to read it again because I didn't absorb any of the knowledge or anything cause I already knew all of it.

I love Egyptian myth so this book was really cool. It's a great introduction for little kids. The only thing that disappointed me was the frame story. It was intresting but didn't seem to be totally connected with the story.

I have always loved the "ology" books. This one is pretty good, though I have to say that "Wizardology" is my favorite (no surprise to some of my friends I'm sure!).

I, being an Egypt fan, really enjoyed this book except for the fact that I didn't learn anything from it.

I have to highly recommend all of the 'ology' series for children and adults alike. Both the girls (ages 8 and 13) have loved these since they discovered them. They are wonderful interactive adventurous books that will keep them entertained and reading for hours. And they are a book they will come back to time and time again. I had to actually confiscate these more than once from my older step-daughter when she would be up way past bed time searching for some new detail she hadn't seen before.

We enjoyed looking at this, but the story was slow and they weren't really interested in it. After a few days of trying to read it and being bored out of our minds, we just looked at all the stuff and read a few captions.

It might work for an older child (middle school) to read through on their own, but it just did not work as a read-aloud. We found many other sources for interesting information and great pictures. We probably won't be using this again.

exceptionally inspirational! a brilliant view on treasure hunting with a strange, real-life cliff hanger. it's the perfect book with which you can read by the light of a single candle, wrapped in a thick blanket, and not feel (too) stupid, :)
my teacher used it when we had to do a art project with an egyptian theme and i saw it a few months later at a bootfaire and just had to have it, :D, lol

I bought this book from the bookstore of the British Museum during my stay in London when I was working in Cathay couple years ago. When I found it in a bookstore in Hong Kong, I felt so unhappy as I thought this book could only be found in British Museum. I recommend that reader to buy yourself a brief history of Egyptology to read along with this book.

a great and fun way to leanr bout eygpt and its peoples rituals in BC times, even though it may seem a book aimed at children as a target audience. It holds alot of figures and facts that are hard to get your head around, amazing facts not known to every bodys basic knowledge.
