Boys and Girls, let this be a lesson: write your book review right after you read the book! I let some time pass, and now I'm trying to remember what I want to say about this book. *sigh*

OK -- here's what I do know. That this is a GREAT book! Who would have thought I'd like something "the Nanny" wrote this much? But I did. It's a book that should be required reading for all women. For a woman who isn't sure exactly what is going on with her body, or who thinks somet...more

The Nanny is one of my favourite shows and while looking on the internet for a possible release date of the rest of the series on DVD, I stumbled upon some very interesting things about Fran Drescher.

I had heard about this book a few years ago when I was working in a bookstore, but never really given it much thought. But upon learning on the internet that Fran had married her high school sweet heart, been robbed and raped in the same night, told her pride and joy as well as her cr...more

This is a memoir written by Fran Drescher, the nanny. It seems she had another memoir for the preceding years, but I have not found that one. This one begins right as her marriage and her show are ending, and she begins experiencing lots of bad symptoms. she takes us through two years of being sick before discovering that she had cancer, and then takes us through her surgery and recovery. i was surprised that since she is a celebrity, she got such bad and wrong medical care, but it goes to show ...more

Fran tells it like it is. She doesn't hold back. She tells you how she found herself to be diagnosed with uterine cancer. She describes her symptoms and how hard it was to get a correct diagnosis and treatment. She went to many different doctors to find out what was wrong with her but they all proclaimed her to be normal, just fine. But she wasn't fine, no sir. She had cancer. She also talks about how she recovered after her surgery and how having cancer affected her and her loved ones. S...more

Enjoyably written memoir; but particularly valuable if it encourages people to keep seeking medical opinions until they are satisfied that their symptoms are really being addressed effectively. I know several people who have had trouble getting proper medical diagnoses, in one case even when people on the street were telling them what it likely was (and it was!). It takes willingness to be an aggressive advocate for yourself (or to take such an advocate with you to appointments if you know you...more

It was good to read about someone else going through this - but I couldn't really relate to her experience, as I'm not a celebrity, and (as she takes pains to remind us) she is. One interesting thing is she had cancer for two years before being diagnosed, to my 3-6 months, and it was still stage one.

Women going through cancer can be comforted, entertained and enlightened by this book. Fran D.'s patient-to-patient, woman-to-woman tone is so conversational that one feels relieved to know that someone else really does know and truly care what it is like to have to face cancer and triumph past it.

Recommends it for: all women
I saw her speak so thought I should read her book. She was seen by 9 doctors and misdiagnosed by 8. She is a survivor of uterine cancer. She stresses finding your voice and being your own best health advocate. I like her humor and take on life.
Rana
I adore Fran Drescher, and this book made me love her even more. I can't fathom anyone going through what she did, but appreciate that she shared her story. I can absolutely relate to the connection with her dogs too!
Saskia
Within a day I read this whole book! It is easy written and you keep longing for more. When the book was over the first thought I had was "That cannot be the end! I want to know what happens next!"
Amy
A very good book about Fran dealing with being misdiagnosed for way too long, to finally being diagnosed with uterine cancer, and through her surgery and recovery. Very honest and inspiring.
Anne Attanas
This is a good memoir about the nightmarish trials and tribulations of having cancer (and being misdiagosed!). A good lesson and warning to anyone about the importance of knowing your body and of getting second opinions, even from supposidly "reputable" doctors!

Recommends it for: anyone going thru life's many struggles
I actually enjoyed this book. Fran has survived so much & still sees the beauty in life.
Sonja
This book is definately better then the first one (Enter Whinning) - it is a book that is inspiring and funny. Fran Drescher gives some great advice, shares much of her personal emotional experience dealing with cancer and states strongly to not always settle on the first opinion of somebody - to trust in yourself
Linda
was helpful and funny
Marie
greatttt book!

I enjoyed reading this book, plus as a fellow cancer survivor, it hit home for me. Mixed in with the humor, there is information in this book that all women should read. Listen to your body and keep going to doctors until you find out what is wrong. Thank you Fran for sharing your story.

Enjoyed, Enter Whining, also, happened to see this book @ local book sale & scooped it up, also, enjoyed reading as my Sister was diagnosed w/breast cancer, this year. It had a lot of informative information & made me laugh in parts.

I love Fran Drescher's account of her bout with cancer. Even in the most dire of circumstances, she retains her sense of humor and candor. Because it ends well, it is suitable for people suffering from the disease and fans. If you like her, read the book for its humor and its ability to serve as a warning to women about taking charge of their own health.

I don't normally read autobiographies but I loved The Nanny so much I thought I'd give this a try. What an excellent read. Fran Drescher is just as clever and funny in this book as she was in The Nanny. But we also get to see a whole other side of her. The side that not that many others knew about...including moi!

Mrs: OK, her comes my outing: I am a big Frannie the Nanny fan! So, this review might be a bit biased, however...: I really liked this book! I read it when I had medical issues as well, and her stories and her witty Jewish humor made things a little more bearable again for me.
Lorinda
Everyone should learn the symptoms for uterine cancer because you just might have this much trouble getting a diagnosis. it is also insightful to travel with The Nanny through her emotional journey to health.

Recommends it for: celebrity bio buffs
I'm a sucker for celebrity biographies and autobiographies. This book follows Fran Drescher's battle with uterine cancer. The book is written in a light-heartened style and is both funny and touching.
Debbie
Really interesting memoir of Drescher's bout with uterine cancer. Funny, heartfelt, and entertaining. I enjoyed her first book, Enter Whining, and this one lived up to the first.
Sara
I never liked the Nanny. I never knew I liked Fran Drescher. I do know I like her now. This book brings humor and inspiration to a very serious subject, and raises awareness.
Beate
Even though she's going through some of the worst time anyone can go through, she seems to keep her wits and humor about it. Why I love Fran Drescher so much.
Elizabeth
Her story is good, and she's such a strong woman. She triumphed through such an arduous ordeal. This memoir of hers only makes me like her all the more.

Recommends it for: Those worried about cancer
"The Nanny" was actually much more entertaining on screen than in a book ... but she did try and you can't veto that!
Kristen
I finished this book in between the hours of 10am and 11pm - nuff said! It was excellent!
Michelle
Loved Fran's outlook as she went through this trial. She is such a strong and positive woman.
