"Unwavering political contrarian Noam Chomsky smart-bombs the U.S. military's global Interventions (City Lights). Shock and awe!"—Vanity Fair

Making the Future presents more than fifty concise and persuasively argued commentaries on U.S. politics and policies, written between 2007 and 2011.

Taken together, Chomsky's essays present a powerful counter-narrative to official acc

Another good Chomsky book. The issues he brings up and the way he explains things makes it easy for just about anybody to understand current events a little better.

The reason I give it only 3 stars (** see below) is because I read this book [almost] right after reading (first) Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance and then (second) Failed States: The Abuse of Power and the Assault on Democracy and I found that Chomsky was repeating himself. Let me explain:

"Hegemony" was grea

"Making The Future" is Chomskys second collection of short editorial articles (roughly 5 or 6 book pages dealing with a subject that was of current interest) and takes up the baton from where 2007's "Interventions" concludes and carries it forward to the autumn of 2012. All of the articles were made available for publication worldwide from the New York Times Syndicate, whose senior editor John Stickney provides a short introduction.

The nature of the format prohibits in-depth

" We are now in the overtures of WWIII and everyone seems to be going about their business; business as usual" Chomsky says..

This is a collection of the monthly columns that Chomsky wrote for the New York Times from April 2007 to October 2011.. As usual, Chomsky sheds an interesting light on all sorts of political sneakiness that the US is a part of. Such a solid book and quick read. Great for someone wanting an intro to Chomsky's views.

Before going to sleep I'm checking if there is any superior state under my bed. Would be a nightmare if they show up to “stabilize” my dreamlands. Reality is not funny though. One gotta love Chomsky provocation: Hey, boy! Stop reading this book and go out there change things! After an effort to put Chomsky’s facts and ideas together you naturally start thinking: Why civilization ended up like this? Douglas Adams has a nice explanation, but we are urging for a solution.

Chomsky provides great insights (as always). However, this is a collection of columns he has written; therefore, the indepth detail one is accustomed to from Chomsky is lacking. Nonetheless, a solid book and quick read. Great for someone wanting an intro to Chomsky's views.

A collection of essays that shows the power that repetition has on clearly stated ideas. Also, it's interesting given the Chomsky vs. Lakoff feud that Chomsky uses a lot of strong, almost Lakoff-style framing in his arguments. Either the teacher has learned from the student or the student built on the teacher.
A collection of short editorial commentaries by Chomsky, up to 2011. The length of the articles is just long enough to give you an antidote of the prevailing mainstream media opinion. Good to read to stay a critical participant in society.
This is a staggering look at the US's ability to ignore anything bad - gobsmacking is the word that comes to mind.

City Lights
"Noam Chomsky is like an angel of light, sent to protect us from the powers of darkness. Not only is he the most badass intellectual radical alive, he's also the premier linguist on the planet."
—Karl Tavis, Synthesis Weekly
Rounds up the past five years of Chomsky's New York Times Syndicate articles, so it offers an insightful glance back, in easy digestible chunks.
Adrian Galvez
It's almost surreal, as Noam would say. We are now in the overtures of WWIII and everyone seems to be going about their business; business as usual.

Chomsky is a lightning rod, a firebrand, a hero, and as necessary as air -- though I wish people read him like they breathe.
Dillon Nicholson
Some errors in the dates of the publication dates. I enjoyed the structure though... Follow-up of Interventions.
Hessam Akhlaghpour
This is simply a collection of scattered speeches by Chomsky. It lacks structure. It was okay.
David Altemeier
Good collection of articles.
