There will be spoilers here I'm sure, so be warned!

I like to borrow books from the online library. A lot of times, I have been on the waiting list for so long that by the time I am able to read the book, I don't remember why I wanted to read it.

This was one of those books. A few chapters into the book, I got very very mad. Almost put the book down mad, but dangit, I had waited for a whole month to read it and read it I was.

With that said, it was okay. I mean, it was an easy read and everything
How have I never read this author before? Thanks to my GR friends for introducing me to this one. A lovely story and even though it's not typical regency fare, it was very grounded in its time period. The emotions and actions of the characters seemed realistic and believable. Each character remained true to him/herself even though they changed and grew. Lots of lovely angst and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Ok, I just devoured this 500 pager in two nights! Thank you Eva for the recommendation! I loved this story and it made no difference that I hadn’t read the previous books in the series. The books are mostly spread apart in generations/centuries. Elizabeth is an amazing heroine. She is inherently good, generous, forgiving, sincere and above-all self sacrificing. Lizzie and Tyrell living on neighboring estates however Lizzie is not in the same socially elevated circles as Lizzie’s parents are not ...more
Lots of my friend loved this book but usually I don't like misunderstandings that can not be solved until the end of the book. So I was postponing to read it. At last I started and finished.

First of all, writing is really good and story development and progress is good, you curiously keep reading it. But what I look for a romance book, it has lack of some of them. Most I love to read about a romance book is the tension and electric between the hero and heroine. But not with lots of lies and misu

I loved this book.
I dont want to go into the plot as there are plenty of twists and its full of sexual tension.

Its not often that you get a hero and heroine you truly like, or a story that grips you from the first few pages, but this book grabbed my attention and kept me up until the small hours of the morning to finish it.

This is my first book by BJ and not my last. I did not read any reviews or plot descriptions beforehand so maybe that enhanced my enjoyment of the book as I had no idea whi
Maskeli Balo-Brenda Joyce

This is the story of Tyrell de Warenne, the next Earl of Adair and Elizabeth Anne Fitzgerald (Lizzie). Lizzie has loved Tyrell since she was a child and he not only took up for her when an obnoxious boy was bullying her, but he also saved her from drowning when she tried to rescue the book she was reading, when the bully threw it in the lake. It was at this time Lizzie put Tyrell on a pedestal. He was a prince in her eyes, and she fell in love with him. Lizzie was also extremely shy and felt her ...more

I love-love-love this novel. I read this book on and off all the time on a whim regularly.

In the early 90s there were a lot of novels where the woman would fall in love with a rake. Sleep with him without him knowing and then have his child and then years later the guy would meet the woman and fall in love with her and then lo and behold, they have a ready made family.

That was the funniest trend in Historical Romance Genre's I had read. This book puts a comical, bitter sweet, romantic twist on

Lizzie loved Tyrell for years. At a Masquerade ball he invites her to meet him at midnight in the garden, but by a strange turn of fate her sister goes instead. A child came of that evening, and to save her sister from ruination Lizzie raises the child as her own. Misunderstandings and realizations abound, a new love is found for one sister, a short affair releases love that's been there for awhile, and Lizzie finally marries her love. I hate Anna! Great read!!

Heralde Judith'in yokluğunda onun yerine koyabileceğim tek yazar bu kadındır.

Elizabeth, Lizzie, has loved Tyrell de Warrenne ever since she was a little girl and he came to her rescue. It didn't matter that her family was way below his in the Ton, she still couldn't stop her foolish heart.

When 16, Lizzie's family goes to the annual de Warrenne masquerade they have for the neighborhood and friends and she actually flirts outrageously with Tyrell. He even sets up a meeting in the gardens with her. Alas, she isn't able to join him and shortly after, she goes for an extende
The funny thing about this book…I didn’t actually mean to read it. I was looking for a book I had read several years back that basically started out at a masquerade and after briefly reading the synopsis, I thought that this must have been the book. I was wrong.

It had been so long ago that I read the book (which I now know for sure which one it is – and it is already loaded on my Nook, to be read), that even though the first few chapters didn’t seem familiar like they should, I still was a bit u

This was an excellent book! I don't know how but I have managed to not read the installments in their correct order and that messes with the suspense...

In this book, everything is evolving around Lizzie's and Tyrell's love. Elizabeth Anne Fitzerald fell in love with Tyrell de Warenne since she was ten and she fell in a lake and he saved her. Circumstances or rather fate brought them together again and now Lizzie has a child, Ned, Tyrell's son, an illegitimate affair with him and a secret that ha

When I was a preteen and teen, historical romances made up about 75% of my reading material. I bought them at yard sales, borrowed them from the library (not many there, I lived in a small town, the selection was slim) and when I could, I bought them from the only used book store in town. I was pretty much obsessed with any story that took place before the invention of automobile.

I carried them around with me everywhere and sneaked them into class, once, my Science teacher found me reading a Bar
The three girls, Anne, Elizabeth (Lizzie), and Georgina were attending a picnic. Georgie was the youngest but outspoken and studious. Lizzie loved to read and romantic novels were her favorite. Anne was the oldest and she was the beautiful one who drew all the male attention.
All the children were playing together with the exception of ten-year-old Lizzie. She was off by herself reading. One of the boys came up to Lizzie and took her book from her. He threw the book into the lake where the de Wa
I just discovered Brenda Joyce and her "de Warenne Dynasty" seriess and this is the 3rd book I have read. This is one of the best books I have read all year. Ms Joyce is able to capture the depths of love, joy and despair that a well written romance novel should have. I am looking forward to the rest of the books in this series.
This is obviously not the opinion of the majority, but this book failed to suck me in. The language was too flowery and melodramatic - I made it through the first couple of chapters and ended up skip reading the rest.

Just a side comment, one reviewer made a comparison to Pride and Prejudice; a connection I didn't really make (and still don't in terms of Elizabeth and Darcy) but here's a quote that reads like Mrs Fitzgerald was either related to or possessed by Mrs Bennet:
"Handsome? Clever? You
A very emotional book about first love, devotion and sacrifice. I can only admire Lizzie, an unusually brave and unselfish young woman. I'm glad she finally got her happy ending after all the suffering & blames she has been through.

Took me a while to get through this, but I pulled through.

First of all, Brenda Joyce is like a favorite author of mine. So I knew I'd like this novel by default.. what I didn't expect was to fall in love with it. Granted, there were parts where I was sitting there like "what the fuck?" but she'd follow it up with a great explanation so meh.

But still... the whole raising my sisters child, marrying-a-cousin shindig doesn't sit well with me. That's the only reason why I'm giving this a 4 star inst

This book failed to draw me i. Let's begin with the highly improbable introduction. Am I supposed to believe that Tyrell manages to save Lizzie from death twice? On two entirely different occasions? Don't tell me it's fate or some other weird crap. If you still insist on it, explain why I haven't met the love of my life yet while walking down the streets.
I hardly find Tyrell swoon-worthy to be honest. I have read many books with much better male leads whose characters aren't paper thin and who c

This is the first book I've read by Brenda Joyce and I loved it! I loved Lizzie's character and how she wasn't interested in high society things and fashion but instead wanted to stay in and read all day. So many people can connect with her personality and her crush on someone she has barely even talked to. Oh yes, her crush on Tyrell is COMPLETELY understandable. He is so charming, good looking, and an overall prefect guy. He's always there to save Lizzie, even though she won't admit to him her ...more

Elizabeth has been in love with Tyrell since he saved her from drowning when she was 10-years old. Forever with her heart on her sleeve, she finds it difficult to overcome her shyness and can only dream of a love that can never be. Under the disguise at the masquerade ball, she is approached by her prince.

Tyrell has saved Lizzie over and over. Something within him is drawn to this quiet beauty. Knowing he must marry another for his family, he is swept away when she presents him with his son. Hi

"The Masquerade" is my first romance by Brenda Joyce but after only a few pages, I knew it would not be my last. I was instantly caught up in the story of how Lizzie, at the tender age of 10, first met Tyrell during an unfortunate tumble into a lake at a social event and the events that led up to the fateful masquerade ball. Great story! And then there was Anna's confession....and the story just went downhill for me there. Don't get me wrong! I loved the relationship between Lizzie and Tyrell. T ...more
