I picked up this book because I liked the theme (yummy cupcakes!), the cover (so fun looking!) and the idea that the book revolves around the death of a bridezilla to be. Sadly, reading the book wasn't as fun as looking at its cover.

The book definitely has its moments, and there is some good writing in here. But, with that being said, I could have filled most pages with red ink correcting editing mistakes and ridiculously awkward and confusing sentences (ex: "If everyone was looking at her, then

Melanie Cooper and Angela DeLaura own a cupcake bakery, Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Their third best friend, Tate, is a partner there and he is getting married soon.
His fiancée is a caricature of bridezilla. She is not just obsessed with the wedding. She wants to own everything connected to it: photographs, special flavour of cupcakes and probably many other things as well. And she ends up dead. The prime suspect is Mel.
The rest follows the well known cozy mystery pattern. Mel investigates Christie an

Huh, surprised I finished this already. I like that while a quick read, it was kind of enjoyable in a way. Maybe it had to do with the number of pages or the writing style. Either way, this was a good start. Didn't love it but still like it. Near the end couldn't help but smile.

Throughout, I been thinking, hmm, suddenly I want a cupcake. Anyway, this was good, the characters I kind of like, at first anyway. Then as the story went along and you get to know them, I like them a little bit more. Esp
Mel Cooper and Anglie DeLaura have been best friends since middle school. They recently left their traditional jobs to open Fairy Tale Cupcakes, the cupcake bakery of their dreams with their best friend Tate Harper as an investor. The trio have been happy as friends sharing a passion for old movies and junk food. Now things are about to change because Tate is marrying star fashion designer Stevens and Christie wants Mel and Angie to make the cupcakes. Christie turns out to be a bridezilla but Me ...more
My first ever experience with cozy mysteries and I must say that I quite enjoyed the ride. Was it the perfect mystery book? Well not really but then you can’t expect cozy mysteries to have the hard core elements that define a mystery and a thriller right?

Melanie Cooper and Angela DeLaura are the proud owners of a cupcake bakery, Fairy Tale Cupcakes and are quite happy with their business. Their other partner, major investor and best friend Tate is getting married to Christie, who is proving to b

A fun, quick read. I liked the characters and see lots of room for growth. There doesn't seem to be a love triangle which makes me very happy. The cupcakes sound amazing during the story, I was a bit disappointed not all the ones mentioned had a recipe, but maybe they will show up in future books. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

I have completely and utterly found a new favorite genre of books. The "cozy murder mystery." Why didn't anyone tell me these books existed?!?!
I randomly found this book on listopia while perusing a list of books with cupcakes on the cover, don't ask me how I got there. The cover caught my eye and the description made me laugh out loud. "…the ladies need to find the real murderer - before the cupcake killer ices someone else…" LOL

I read SPRINKLE WITH MURDER as part of a readalong with the Cozy Mysteries group on Goodreads. I hadn't heard of this series or author before, but I'm always keen to read more cozy mysteries so I thought I'd give it a go.

SPRINKLE WITH MURDER centers around the Fairy Tale Cupcakes bakery, run by best friends Melanie and Angie. The third muskateer (so to speak), is their best friend, Tate, who is also the financial backer of their business. Tate's fiancee is found dead and all fingers point to Mel

A cute light cozy mystery featuring Mel Cooper, a small business owner of Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Along with her childhood best friends Tate and Angie (Tate is a partner, Angie is a co-manager), Mel is happy with their movie nights and steady stream of customers.

Until Tate decides to ask Mel to make the cupcakes for his wedding with snobby bitchy Christie Stevens, a designer with a cold-hearted manipulative streak. Then, because she doesn't want to hurt her friend she decides to sign a contract tha

I waffled between giving this book two or three stars, and I finally settled on three, for story alone. Or maybe we should fudge and say 2.5.

The story is cute and clever. Mel and Angie have just opened a cupcake bakery, Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Their business partner is their longtime best friend, Tate. The three of them are inseparable, having the kind of friendship only lifelong friends can have. They quote old movie lines at each other and get together regularly for classic movie nights.

Sprinkle With Murder is a delicious addition to the food themed cozy mystery genre. Melanie Cooper, along with her two best friends, Angie DeLaura and Tate Harper has just opened up Fairy Tale Cupcakes. All is sweet until Tate’s egomaniac fiancée, fashion designer Christie Stevens; demands Melanie create five unique cupcake flavors for the wedding. Did I mention that she also demands the sole rights to Melanie’s creation? Of course, it’s no surprise when Christie ends up dead with one of Melanie ...more

Ooooooo....the recipes in the back of the book...Mojito, Death by Chocolate, Tinkerbells, and, my favorite, Blonde Bombshell....if only for the recipes, get the book! What's even better is that it's a fab-ly written mystery with splendiferous characters. I love feisty Mel and even feistier Angie. The surrounding characters are nifty, too, especially the cupcake girls' best friend Tate, fiance (sorry, can't figure out the accent thingee for fiance) of the bridezilla fashion designer biotch Christ ...more

Enjoyable start to the Cupcake Bakery series! Angie and Melanie run a cupcake bakery, in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. A rival baker has it in for them; believing they're ruining her business. When Mel and Angie's best friend, Tate, asks them to design and make the cupcakes for his wedding to snobby, control freak, fashion designer, Christie; relationships are tested, especially when Mel finds Christie as stiff as the stiletto on the heel of her Louboutin's!! Can handsome Joe DeLaura, one of ...more

Cute and funny cozy that is a quick read. Pacing is good, but the constant movie lines the main characters said to one another slightly got on my nerves.

I really enjoyed it. I haven't read many cozy mysteries, but this one would be a great intro for anyone new to the genre. It was hard to put it down once I started reading. It was a great start for a series. The characters were in depth and enjoyable, yet the author still has lots of room to expand on them in the coming books. I loved all the cupcake talk, and really appreciate that some of the recipes were included at the end of the book. I'll definitely be continuing on with this series, and e ...more

I really enjoyed this one! The characters were likeable and even though I figured out who the murderer was pretty quickly, the story was enjoyable from beginning to end. I found myself craving cupcakes like crazy and I intend to try a couple of the recipes that are at the end of the book. I'll definitely be reading the next one, THE BUTTERCREAM BUMP OFF.

I started off really enjoying it, but I guess, ultimately, the things that annoyed me outweighed the things I enjoyed. I mean, it's fun! But it's also pretty over-the-top, which, really, I should know to expect with the genre.

But what I really didn't like was the shallow and petty portrayal of women.
I just finished this book and I'm sorry it's over! This is the first book in Ms. McKinlay's series, "The Cupcake Bakery Mysteries." This book explains how Mel (Melanie Cooper) and Angie (Angela DeLuca) have a lifelong friendship that has led to their owning this cupcake bakery in Scottsdale, Arizona. The third member of the group is Tate, who is getting married, and his bride-to-be is to have custom-designed cupcakes for the wedding, and that leads into the mystery, as Mel discovers the would-be ...more

"Cupcake? She knew as a female entrepreneur, she shouldn't let him get away with calling her such a frivolous nickname. But darn it, it made her feel breathless the way he said it in his low voice accompanied by his slow grin. And she liked it."

This was my first Jenn McKinlay book, and I can only wonder what took me so long to find her! Sprinkle with Murder was a wonderful introduction to a series. I was thrilled that this book was not full of too many details, as first books often are. I was easily swept into the story line and I was captivated by the characters. Pros for me: The pacing of this book was quick and easy to follow. The characters are interesting, and believable. Con: I'm not a huge fan of love stories that are attached t ...more

Mel Cooper has made her longtime dream come true by opening her own cupcake shop, Fairy Tale Cupcakes, along with her two best friends Angie and Tate. To bolster their new business, Tate asks the girls to cater his upcoming wedding. The only problem is that Tate's fiancee is a complete bridezilla and her outrageous requests are enough that Mel can barely keep from wringing her neck. But when Mel drops by bridezilla's office to hear her latest round of demands, Mel finds her dead holding onto one ...more
I added this book to my to-read list over a year ago (mainly due to the cute cupcake cover) and just got around to reading it. I'm starting to enjoy this whole chick-lit mystery genre — especially when there's yummy food involved. This book reminds me of the Hannah Swensen mysteries, another series about a bakery owner who gets caught up in a murder mystery she feels inclined to solve.

Melanie Cooper, with the help of friends Angie DeLaura and Tate Harper, is finally living out her dream as owner of Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Business is doing well and she is thrilled to be asked to make 500 cupcakes for Tate’s wedding even though she isn’t fond of his fiancée Christie. When Christie turns up dead with one of Mel’s cupcakes nearby, the police seem to think that either Mel or Tate killed her. It is up to Mel to find the real killer before the police send the wrong person to jail.

Whacktacular, used by Angie in this book is my new favorite word of the week. I know other reviews didn't rate this book high, but I found the limited cast of characters refereshing and Sprinkle with Murder was just an all around fun read. Unlike some other foodie cozies, the author doesn't take pages to describe the character making something step-by-step, which is definite plus. AND the cupcake recipes in the back sound awesome, especially the Mojito which I'm gonna have to try out soon.

This was a lot of fun to read. A good sense of humor and certainly fits the definition of cozy murder mystery quite nicely.

I generally liked the main characters, but most of the supporting cast seemed a bit over-stereotyped, which I suppose is a common risk in this genre. The victim was basically one big stereotype as were many of the suspects, and the local shopkeepers weren't much better. I also wish it was a bit more difficult to figure out who did it. Sure there were plenty of bunny trails,
