Tara Kingston outdid herself with this delightful story. From the first page, I was hooked on Secrets, Spies and Sweet Little Lies. A senator's daughter, Emma Davenport, is closely watched as any proper young woman should be, but she manages to escape the clutches of an overbearing aunt and races to meet her beloved fiance. However, Major Cole Travis has other plans. Sent on a mission to thwart the headstrong woman's involvement with the traitorous enemy, Cole snatches Emma from the train and sp ...more

I have a confession to make when I read Secrets, Spies and Sweet Little Lies by Tara Kingston. I fell in love with the cover of this book. Then I read the blurb and knew I had to read the story. I wasn’t disappointed.

Here is a story that captivates from the first page and doesn’t let up until the last. Not a word is wasted in this Civil War era novel that is filled with humor, wit and colorful secondary characters.

Another one I didn't hate, but I wouldn't recommend it. I found the interaction between Emma and Cole amusing at first but then when it kept going and going with nothing else happening, it got tiring. It felt like over half of the book was them bickering or her calling him names.

Although eluded to numerous times, it was way too far into the book to find out who Cole really was and what was really going on. The spy part and method of delivery of the secrets was good but took a back seat to the he

Senator's daughter Emma Davenport is kidnapped off the train on her way to her wedding, by Jack Travis, whom she believes to be nothing more than an outlaw, scoundrel and barbarian. Jack, however, is far more handsome than he should be for a man of such low repute, and swears to protect her from the very man she insists she needs. As the days go past, her opinion changes. Jack leaves her hot and bothered where as the image of the man who's photo is in the locket she wears leaves he

When the sheltered daughter of a US senator, Emma Davenport, boards a train west, she thinks she's escaping her father's stifling household for a chance to wed her fiancé. Problem is, she's abducted from the train by an outlaw. Jack Travis, however, isn't all he seems. He's actually been charged with keeping Emma safe and his outlaw routine is just a cover story.

He spirits her off to his hunting cabin, and they spend a few days getting to know each other, before the resourceful Emma finds a way

This is the first book that I read written by Tara Kingston. I really enjoyed the story of Emma and Cole. Beautiful chemistry between the two, sparks flare and ignite a passion. It was very well written and a fun read. It was filled with intrigues, and secrets. I recommend SECRETS, SPIRES & SWEET LITTLE LIES
