This novel revolves around Flora, a young woman in love with her high school math teacher. Within her story she enfolds and bridges three generations of women, their relationships to mean, and how that impacts their relationships to each other

It's no wonder that this book was nominated for the prestigious PEN/Faulkner award. It's one of the best novels I've read in a long time. The writing is fluent, poetic at times, and perfectly attuned to the story, with an appealing protagonist and a cast of well-drawn characters.
