Mastery of Love is one of the most influential books I have ever read. I recommend it to all of my girl friends and I think every guy should read it as well. Ruiz also wrote The Four Agreements...very good read but I liked Mastery of Love more b/c as a girl that has grown up in a (pleasantly) divorced family, I am a skeptic of love and it’s hard for me to open up.

Okay, I really do like this guy, homeboy author, don't know his name. This book seriously is amazing. I read this book after getting out of a 'not so great' 3 year drama relationship. It taught me SO much about relationships in general. It isn't a cheezy "how to find a husband/wife book." It is just an awesome book about how to be better at all relationships in life. I LOVED IT. I especially loved that it taught me that you can't expect someone to be a certain way just because you want...more

although this book did not find me love. (maybe i should read it again. which one do you think--first the artist's way and write a new book and THEN find love or vice versa?)
but this writer is a doll. hs first book, the four agreements book got me interested in toltec wisdom or spirituality--the path of a warrior in a way.
this book is basically one of those reminder books about loving the self and others.

What is Love, anyway?
I'd say, for most people, the process starts with finding out what Love isn't. Even knowing that much is in the eye of the beholder. Sure, we all know that love isn't violence, but what about possessiveness? Is that the same as love?
While one person insists that Love means 'you should never desire to be without my company' another is adamant that Love means being secure enough to separate at times.
One exclaims "I would give up everything for you!" While...more

This book sat on a shelf for years. After a difficult break-up, I pulled it out and found that it offered me tremendous insight into the emotional poisoning human beings undergo in the socialization process. Basically, it explores how and why we are all wounded, and how that plays out in love relationships. Best of all, it talks about ways to rid your system of the poison. Unlike Illusions by Richard Bach, this book moved me and allowed me to empathize with my ex-boyfriend so that I could begin ...more

Make fun of me all you want for reading this hippie book, but it f-ing rocks! Skip over the spiritual crap and it has some awesome (be it cheesy) outlooks on love.I'm not one for self help type books but my old hippie roommate gave me this book during my first major break up years ago. It really helped me out. When I am having heart to hearts with friends going through love dramas I always pull it out- and they end up taking the copy home with them (and hiding it so no one sees the cheesy crap t...more

There were many positive, potentially enlightening elements of this book and there were certainly aspects of learning the wisdom of the three Toltec masteries which most people would find helpful in just about any kind of relationship. However, it might have been even MORE helpful if Ruiz had just saved me an extra few hours of yawning through 224 pages of repetitive anecdotes and lots of dumbed-down-for-your-average-American language and just put all of these wonderful ideas into one concise, i...more

The Mastery of Love is a beautiful book with simple analogies that hold true to the ideas and believes that we all can find the peace in our heart to love and be loved unconditionally. I was pleasantly surprise to discover many of Ruiz’s ideas parallel many of my own everyday life practices. Haven read this book I’ve gain more knowledge on how to get in touch with myself acceptance and to appreciate what admiration my family and friends give to me thus allowing me to in return give my love...more

life changing book.. inspirational.. learned so much about relationships.. everyone should read this... it's really easy to read... nothing like "geez, so freakin' mental"..
i read this every now and then to remind myself very important things about life.. now i know how to grow "self-love"..
it's kinda goes along with that saying...
- men have two wolves in them
- one is love, another is hate
- well, who wins?
- one you feed the most

The Mastery of Love really makes you think about the lack of self love we have and how we have been domesticated from such an early age to shelter our true self to be what we think others want for us to be.
This book was so profound for me at a time in my life, when I realized that I needed to be myself, and love myself regardless to if others loved and accepted me. This book created a real turning point in my life..

So far so good. One of those books which explains what we feel at some innate level we've always knew but have forgotten in the muddiness of everyday life. At first it seemed very depressing, but it's all about responsibility of ourselves and makes more sense and becomes more comforting towards the middle!
Enjoyed it...made me twist my way of thinking about myself and others. Thought provoking.

I never finished this book. The low rating is primarily due to my take on this kind of self-help, spirtual guide type of book. The writing is not bad. And much of what this guy says is relevant. I just feel that there is nothing here that is not readily apparent and learned from everyday experience. It seems odd to read this kind of thing in search of the wisdom in the first place.

Ruiz has a real gift for calling out the relevancy of the Toltec teachings to his readers. His writing is lush and full of poignant moments.
I see myself re-reading this book every few years, as it is chock-full of good relationship advice.
The book on CD is also really good, read by a man and a woman and I felt that was very gender-balanced.

There is alot of insight into relationships in this book. The way we judge others and try to control them is only a window into our own emotional pain and lack of self love. This book emphasizes being responsible for your own life and responses to others, rather than blaming and reacting.
Read his book 'The Four Agreements' also.

a simple, smaller-sized book that really makes you examine most humans' distorted idea of what the word "love" means. it is a pretty 'deep' subject, which is thuroughly delved into and explained in a way anybody can relate to and come to understand. it's one of the yummiest book about love that i have ever read =)

This book is a wisdom of compassion, unconditional love..
how a happy and pieceful relationship should be..
It's easy to choose between right or wrong but It takes a great effort to go through life with wisdom.
Yet when we could live with wisdom, you will feel fully content with yourself..

Every time I read/listen to this book, I am reminded of such important fundamental ways to love people while respecting everything they do and being in complete acceptance of the way in which they live their lives. I would love to listen to the audio with all my loved ones and see what happens.

I reread this often. Ruiz gives common sense points about self-love, romantic love, and personal fulfillment. One of my favorite examples about choosing a mate is Ruiz' pet analogy: if you want a dog would you get a cat instead and expect it to behave like a dog?
Great stuff!!!

This book is the most insightful writing I have ever come upon when it comes to relationships (of any kind) and liberating yourself, healing your emotional wounds. I love the style as I find the content truly amazing and impressive. This book changed my paradigm on relationships.

This book changed the way I view my life and relationships. I look at people in a different light and understand clearly now why people act the way they do. It was so liberating for me personally that I bought the book on CD so I could listen to it often.
