There's something refreshing about a boots-on-the-ground alien invasion of Earth. When aliens darken our doorstep, they seldom need to send troops down to pacify the population, probably because any species advanced enough to have interstellar spaceflight capability will also have some pretty terrible weapons. A lot of writers are passionate about their work. It’s a career requirement really. That enthusiasm on the part of Lee Stephen translated from the outset when I received all three of his books in one envelope. Inside the front cover of each one was a different and separate dedication to me, personalising forever these books. I did enjoy this (apparent) first effort from this writer, I'm probably a bit over three stars in actuality. I won't rehash the story (which you can find in other reviews), but will say the pacing seemed a little quick and the random government meetings that start some chapters were either not necessary, or could have been expanded to offer more to the story. Some reviews were not favorable to the main character's faith, which is prevalent throughout the story. I don't think it affected the stor...more
Near-future military sci-fi novel with a fairly standard setup: aliens have found us, we're at war, and we have been unsuccessful in diplomacy attempts. A united earth military force stands in its defense.
Twists from the standard formula: there are at least 3 races, not all of whom seem to be working together, and we don't know what the story is on that (we don't seem to know what motivates any of the races).

The Good -- There is much to like in Lee Stephen’s first novel, Dawn of Destiny. As first attempts go this is a cracking effort, and its real strength is that it never tries to be more than it is, and what it is, emphatically, is an adrenaline fueled military sci-fi action-adventure.

Every now and then I'll browse the science fiction library and try and find those diamond in the roughs. Even though doing that is extremely difficult, sometimes they miss the margin, and other times a book like DoD comes and throws a knockout punch.

Very poorly written in character development and plot. Characters were one-dimensional and "stock" (without individuality) and the plot had no backstory or cohesiveness. Almost a collection of short stories (but still poorly written within the stories). Rating = DWYT (don't waste your time)
enjoyable military, alien-fighting futuristic sci-fi. Good beginning to a new series, complete in its own right, but evidently more to come.
I found the plot to be predictable and the characters two-dimensional. I don't plan to read the sequels.
This was a great book. I recommend everyone try this series
I found this to be a fast moving compelling read which much to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed amd look forward to reading more of the series when my funds allow
