This review is for the children’s adaptation by Calico Illustrated Classics. Over all it does a very good job, following the plot identically to the novel without adding any silliness and cutting out plot points that might be distracting or confusing to younger readers.
The illustrations? Thumbs down. Very disappointing. The cover art is the best piece throughout the book. A majority of the illustration are just Raoul and Christine sitting down and talking to one another. They choose to illustrat
Part of ABDO's Magic Wagon imprint, this is one of many books in the Calico Illustrated Classics series. Each book is 112 pages long and contains an illustrations every chapter or so. The story lacks the excitement of the musical; I haven't read the original story so can't compare the book to Gaston Leroux's book. However, this book (and others in the series I have read) are great resources for upper elementary students interest in or assigned classic literature as well as those middle and high ...more
