Without trust, common ground can get pretty shaky…

“I believe you have something of mine, Zach.”

Zach Owens doesn’t even know who this angry stranger is, let alone what the man is talking about—until he learns what they have in common. Their boyfriend, Jake. Once Jake’s out of the picture, Zach’s apology to Nathan Forrester leads to a long conversation, a kiss, and a chemist...more

^^I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE LAW, AND THIS BOOK HARDLY HELPS!^^

This book was awfully frustrating to me, at points I was so in love and then I would find myself getting equally pissed off. The subject matter was serious, how is one able to trust again after being cheated on, and can you come to care for the person who was the one your boyfriend was cheating with. Some reader might be appalled at the way both our main characters were quick to jump into bed, I on the other hand found it kind...more

I couldn't finish it. I'm all about tension in stories. I love the build up and the anger that lead to emotional sex or passionate love. I didn't get it here. It would appear that hot sex just solved everything for everyone.

Zach finds out that his boyfriend (Jake) of 6 months had a partner (Nathan) for 4 years while they were dating. Nathan angrily confronts him and Jake one night. I would have thought that this would have lead to some kind of real turmoil for Zach not just about feeling guilty...more

My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-r...

Zach is enjoying a night out with his boyfriend, Jake, when a stranger slides into his booth at the bar, claiming Zach has something of his. It turns out that the “something” is Jake. Zach is horrified to learn Jake has another boyfriend, one that Zach inadvertently played a part in breaking the heart of. He chases after the other man, Nathan, in order to apologize. Neither Zach nor Nathan plan on sparks flyin...more

I've not read a contemporary M/M in quite a while, but I'm so very glad I took the time to read this one. Witt takes a highly unorthodox track with this one (which is what attracted me to it), and I found immense enjoyment in every twist and turn.

This is far from a simple "boy meets boy" story, and Witt's highly unorthodox twist to the way they meet is what kept me reading straight through to the last page.

The only reason this lacks a five-star rating is because I honestly found the rep...more

Zach's out for drinks with his boyfriend of 6 months Jake when Nathan arrives. Seems Nathan has been Jake's boyfriend of 4 years. Ack. Zach is stunned and upset and after leaving Jake offers to take Nathan for a beer. That night they have angry revenge sex but Zach figures it's a one-time thing. A couple of weeks later Nathan shows up at his movie theatre and they decide to have a no strings thing because two exes dating would be weird and wrong. (Although I don't see why.) Nathan has serious tr...more

The author started out with a great premise: can two people really build a relationship on hate and sex? And if they can, should they?

For all of the romanticism in this book there is a lack of true love. The author does not make the reader privy to any facet that binds these two together. Honestly, the only thing these characters have in common are Jack, incredible sex, and a good sense of humor. Each conversation between the two main characters is either about trust or Jack. What else do they h...more

Angry revenge sex has never been more erotic than in the hands of L.A. Witt. Zach and Nathan are two guys who have both been betrayed by the same man. It’s not the best circumstances under which to begin a relationship, but given the sparks that explode between them, it’s not a bad way to meet someone wonderful.

The conflict is simple, but not simplistic. Nathan has trust issues. After what he’s been through, it seems natural he wouldn’t come through it without some serious scarri...more

When Zach Owens goes out for the evening with his boyfriend, the last thing he expects is to be confronted by another man, Nathan, who states Zach’s boyfriend Jack is actually Nathan’s boyfriend and that the two had been dating for over four years. When Zach and Nathan get together to discuss Jack’s betrayal, chemistry flares up between the two and they make love and a relationship ensues. What started out as revenge against their cheating ex is quickly turning into something more. Yet, Nathan a...more

Nine-tenths of the Law is for sure an erotic gay romance, plenty of hot sex and two men who enjoy doing it, but it has the merit to not being “only” that.

The starting point of the new relationship between Zach and Nathan is pretty risky and almost fated: Nathan finds out that his boyfriend is cheating him with Zach; to be true with Zach, he didn’t know “his” boyfriend was of someone else, and when Nathan tells him so, he doesn’t think twice to dump the man and actually go after Nathan himself....more

This book tackles the issue of jealousy but ultimately left me feeling frustrated. It has a good premise and lengthy build up but a rather weak resolution with no clear vision of a happy ending. It’s not horribly written per se, though it’s often slow and sex filled, but it’s more that the issues brought up are repetitive with no resolution each time and little final resolution. I think reader reaction and enjoyment will really depend on whether you like the characters and can buy into...more

I originally chose this because I share the surname with the author. And I'm gay. I am always on the lookout for intelligent gay fiction and, unfortunately, this didn't quite fit the bill.

This could have been interesting. Two men cheated on by a shared boyfriend and then fall madly in love after getting together for a revenge fuck. But the whole novel falls apart based on one premise: both of them so utterly reject Zach (the cheater) that he is hardly mentioned for the rest of the book! He is ju...more

This started off good with an interesting premise. Can two people who are both cheated on by the same guy, find happiness together. Can a relationship built out of anger, mistrust & a need for revenge, survive & grow into something more. What we actually get as the novel proceeds is the ex, Jake, acting in a cliched manner, lots of sex between Nathan and Zach, and a lot of conversation that revolves around what Jake did to them.

The other bone of contention between the two MC are trust is...more

This is really a 3.5 for me, but the ending was good, so I'm feeling generous.

It took me 80 pages to get into the story. I'm not sure what my disconnect was, but I just didn't care. It could be because the first half of the story was sex scenes. The thing is, the scenes weren't gratuitous, they really did advance the story they way the author intended. The MCs were two men who met because they were dating the same jerk wad and didn't know it. Well, Nathan figured it out and confronted Zach and t...more

God this is sad. The way Nathan treats Zach is heart breaking for me. This book is a 3.5 star. Since I truncate...3 star. The premise of this story was rather interesting. I can't remember the last time I read a story where two partners who were cheated on came together in this manner. Sure there is the revenge sex but this one was more than revenge sex. I don't know what was going on with Jack, but he's a jack-ass.

Even thought Nathan has his baggage, I still felt badly for him too because he's...more

3.5 stars! I was very annoyed with this book in the end. It started out great. I was really enjoying it, yeah the whole "I am suspicious of you all the time" was getting a little old, but perhaps understandable given the circumstances of their relationship. But the last few pages, were so abrupt and incomplete. That should have been the half way point of this book. The story should have progressed to where they start building something and should have ended after a big altercation with Jake wher...more

This book had some good things going for it. First, the premise sounds interesting. I'm sure there has to be another like it, but I haven't read it. Second, Zach is a character that I had no trouble liking. He is easygoing, hardworking, honest, and sexy. And speaking of sexy, there were a few pretty hot scenes in there. The downside was all of Nathan's jealousy and distrust. I think that they were perfectly reasonable to expect; however, after a certain point it looses its effectiveness because...more

I was so frustrated when I finished this book. I totally loved the story. Everything about the story. From the jerk ex-boyfriend to watching Nathan and Zach work through their trust issues. Though I did find Nathan to be a little on the overbearing side when it came to trust. Everything flowed smoothly. Great concept for a story. So what happened? The ending was so freaking rushed! I won't give it away but it really bothered me. That is the only thing that prevented this book from getting 5 star...more

I actually loved how this book started. It was something I haven't seen before and I didn't see it coming. I try not to read many reviews before starting a book so I was totally in it with Zach in that bar. However, by the end of the book I just felt worn down. The majority of the book is spent with a cycle of trust arguments followed by lots of sex (very hot sex, I might add). Literally, there are no other plot elements. I just wish something more happened during the story. Overall...more

Can you ever get sweet water from a poisoned well?

Seriously, how do you find purity when you started with something tainted. Mistrust and betrayal, two demons of relationship hound Nathan and Zach. Due to an inauspicious start the entire journey is uphill with a lot of sliding backwards on unstable ground. At some point they have to find firm footing for their feelings or this is going to fail.

This one's for all the readers who like the rocky road.

I've never read anything by L.A. Witt before, but after reading this wonderful story, I definitely plan on checking to see what else the author has written.

Full disclosure - I picked up this story because it was free, and it was a gay romance, which I've been reading a lot of lately. I'm so glad I did, because I got so caught up in Zach and Nathan's story that I read the entire thing in one sitting.

The plot is unusual in that our two main characters meet under horrible circumstances - they find...more

3.5 stars.

In this book I really liked the beginning and the end. I felt the story dragged a little bit in the beginning, with the constant repetition of situations and feelings that were never really resolved. I think my main problem was that the narrators voice wasn't really engaging, and it probably lacked a spark of humor. Since I read another book by the same author where the characters really drove me mad in a good way, because their banter was playful and lively, I was a bit disappointed h...more

I do so love L.A. Witt! I love an angst riddled story and this one suited my needs just fine. It had lots of angst and frustration that ends with you clasping your hand to your chest and breathing a sigh with a big sappy smile. I've placed it right up there on my favorites shelf.

Zach discovers that Jake is cheating on him when he's confronted by "the other man" (Nathan) while he and Jake are out on a date. When Nathan storms out of the bar, Zach is compelled to run after him because, being the...more

This was my first book by L.A. Witt, but certainly not the last one. I truly enjoyed its originality; the plot was new and fresh, and it kept my interest until the very last page. On the minus side, I had to skip a lot of pages due to the fact that the sex scenes were way too long for my liking. Add the anticipation of the sex in between of those, and it leaves very few for the development of the characters and the storyline.

Other than that, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read that I would recomm...more

I almost didn't read this book after reading some of the reviews, but I'm so glad I did. For me, it was everything I want in a story. The characters were great, the story was interesting, I really loved the complexity of finding love/starting a relationship with someone who was the other man. I felt the amazing chemistry between these two and it made for some hot scenes.

I enjoyed this book. It was a fairly simple and straightforward storyline with no major twists or turns, but lots of steamy, sometimes angry, sex. I have read other books in which this author collaborated with others, but never one written by her alone. I liked her writing and her writing style very much. My chief complaint is that I was let down by the ending. It just felt very abrupt after investing myself in these characters...I needed more. 3.5 stars

Let me say first that I normally like LA Witt's books but this one was a disappointment. There really wasn't much of a story here. The book needed more conflict than just a lack of trust between Zach and Nathan. But what really bothered me was the overuse of the expression "he broke the kiss." I swear that expression was used in every chapter of this book and it bugged the hell out of me. I don't think the movie projector in the theater Zach owned broke as many times as he and Nathan broke their...more

To quote part of the review of another reader (Elisa Ramblings) "Nine-tenths of the Law is for sure an erotic gay romance, plenty of hot sex and two men who enjoy doing it, but it has the merit to not being “only” that".

I've really appreciated how the author was able to make this story something else than just hot sex between two hot guys...very few books I read in this genre managed to mantain this equilibrium.

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who, after three years in Okinawa, Japan, has recently relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two cats, and a three-headed clairvoyant parakeet named Fred. There is some speculation that this move was not actually because of her husband's military orders, but to help L. A. close in on her arch nemesis, erotica author Lauren Gallagher, who has al...more
