So Fun to read many of these books again. It begins with the story of the little orphan Anne Shirley on Prince Edward Island, Canada and the series ends with her daughter Rilla's growing up experiences during the 1st world war. Not sure all the historical facts in" Rilla of Ingleside" about the 1st World War are correct but fascinating to read what life at home for parents and family of Soldiers was like during this era. Have not completed reading her collection of short stories, yet look forwa ...more

“No. I don’t think I’ve ever been really lonely in my life,” answered Anne. “Even when I’m alone I have real good company — dreams and imaginations and pretendings. I LIKE to be alone now and then, just to think over things and TASTE them.” 4 likes
“I’d like to add some beauty to life,” said Anne dreamily. “I don’t exactly want to make people KNOW more . . . though I know that IS the noblest ambition . . . but I’d love to make them have a pleasanter time because of me . . . to have some little joy or happy thought that would never have existed if I hadn’t been born.” 1 likes
