I grabbed If I Had You by Kurland because I know she's an old favorite of many and couldn't resist a peek. One thing about this story- it's all romance. Literally. The sex in this one is glossed over and never mentioned, so don't come to it expecting heat between the sheets. Usually I like a little more heat in my romance novels- but this one was just fine as it is.

Robin and Anne have known each other for a long time. There was something between them all along, something that feels suspiciosly like love, but Robin (because of some pretty stupid reason that could make sense only to an alpha man) ran away and did his best to forget. Of course, he failed.
The moment he finds out that Anne's supposed to find a husband, he goes home.
I like Robin - I have a thing for grumpy, surly men with communication issues. Anne is great as well - sensible (unlike the heroine...more

This book is a historical romance of the "beauty tames the beast" variety. As in, Robin verbally abuses Anne and physically abuses his brothers and one of his sisters, but he falls for Anne's beauty. Anne hates Robin because of his treatment of her, but she refuses all other suitors (including a very nice fellow) because "Robin is so beautiful!" Robin deliberately ruins Anne's reputation knowing his actions will mean no one else will marry her (even though "nothing happened" between them), yet h...more
This is the reason I'm glad I found Kurland early on in her publishing days. I was able to read these books in the order that she wrote them and not in the order of their timeline.
This is my favorite Kurland book. Set completely in the past and centering on the parents of some of the most memorable of her knights. It was amazing to see this story after reading about them as a solid couple in so many books before this one came out. To see that Robin and Anne didn't have it all figured out immedia...more

Ok, so I did read another one. I really enjoy this author's nine kingdom series, but again, this one read more like a romance. Fortunately a pretty clean one, and not as much of a soap opera as the previous, which meant I was able to enjoy the historical fiction even more. But seriously, there were some pretty dumb decisions by the couple in love, and I'm not sure if a touch of the hand is really enough to knock me off my feet... Ok, so I'm not a huge romance buff, I suppose. And I felt like the...more
This book reminded me of Judith McNaught's book A Kingdom of Dreams. The story was well written and flowed beautifully, the characters were strong, there were humorous situations and touching scenes. The last chapter wasn't the best I've read but it still was good. The romance between the two main characters were great and as expected, Lynn doesn't write graphic sex scenes which in no way takes away from the book. It's Lynn's style of writing. Still, I love her writing and chose to give this a 4...more
Such a great De Piaget book! This one was about Gwen and Rhys's first son, Robin and his love, Anne of Fenwyck. This story was so sweet because of Robin loving Anne despite the problem she has with her leg. She is overly self-conscious about it, but Robin never sees her as anything less than perfect. They've both been in love with each other since they were children, but without ever revealing it to each other, so they've harbored a secret love for one another for years in their hearts. When Rob...more
I have not yet pin pointed the exact reason but this book has put me into a perpetual anxiety attack. This is well written and I enjoyed the multiple points of view, the hero, the heroine and the villain.
I understand how seemingly simple tragic moments in childhood can traumatize and damage an adult's life. I wonder if we feel stronger emotions when young because it is the first time to feel them? This would explain why first love is so strong and memorable. Perhaps this is why it is a favorite...more

Recommends it for:
all who love a good romantic medieval story.
If you take Lynn Kurland's stories in chronological order and by family, this is very near the top in the de Piaget family line. This is Robin's story, the firstborn of Rhys and Gwen. It is also the story of a girl who fostered with them, Anne of Fenwick. Lynn takes two young people with fragile psyches, brings them together to help heal each other and in the meantime solve a strange set of mishaps that continue to plague the castle (Artane). There are plenty of villains running around who could...more
This book was even better than the first in this series...
Robin de Piaget is Gwennelyn and Rhys eldest son. This is his story. Robin has been away from home along time at war. But he has not forgotten Anne of Fenwyck. She has grown up at Artane. While she was young her leg was crushed in an accident with a horse and now she limps when her leg gets weak. Robin has ever been her champion and she has always been in love with him.
Now that he is home she hopes he will offer for her of her father will...more

I could get into all of the technicalities of why this isn't a great piece of literature, but the bottom line is that well written or not this book kept me captivated to the end. It was the perfect fluff reading I needed after finishing Wuthering Heights. Luckily for me this author has a ton of books, and I know I can go and pick up one of her books whenever I am in need of some clean, light, romance.
I love Lynn Kurland's books. Of the ones I've read, this is the first one I wasn't as thrilled with.
I guess I didn't care for all Robin's moods.
I have more of Lynn Kurland's books and enjoyed them and I'm going to find more of her books and keep reading.
I just enjoyed her other books more then this one.
Anne is so sweet though :)

This was a wonderful story, I was frustrated with some of it, but I loved any moment with past characters, having just finished there story recently... Robin was so dense through most of this that I had a hard time liking his character, but by the end, of course I loved him... I honesly can't wait to read all these books...
This is one of my favorite Kurlands. You get the gruff, rugged manly man who has a hard time showing any kind of affection and the soft sweet woman who hurts because she doesn't think he loves her. This is a very thought out book and very well written. Most of Kurlands books are clean and I love so many of them. Mid-evil fun to read. This is the 2nd book in the DePiaget line. This is a clean read for romance readers. I love the characters and the fun way she writes!

Lynn Kurland...You've done it again! I love reading these sweet love stories. This one is so endearing. I love it when you can curl up in a blanket and escape into a book. :)
I loved Robin and Anne's relationship in this. He's so stubborn and short-sighted. She's so insecure, but sweet & so in love with Robin. The only drawback to the story was the villain, Edith. She seemed smart and evil, with vengeance on her mind, but there was never any real motivation given for her hatred of Robin in the end. It left me unfulfilled, in that regard, but the rest was great. I feel like part of the family at this point, after reading the first 5 books.

Lynn began her writing career at the tender age of five with a series of illustrated novellas entitled Clinton’s Troubles in which the compelling hero found himself in all sorts of . . . well, trouble. She was living in Hawaii at the time and the scope for her imagination (poisoned fish, tropical cliffs, large spiders) was great and poor Clinton bore the brunt of it. After returning to the mainlan...more
