The story of Friedl a young German lady, and how the war affected her as a non Jewish German citizen. Friedl is now 91 years old, and I know her, that is why I read the book, but it is a really interesting story even if you don't know her. The writing style is a bit stilted, but the story does overcome this. I read the book on my kindle, and it was implied at the end there would be a sequel, but unfortunately Friedl's stepson, who co-wrote the book has passed away, so that probably won't happen. ...more

Powerful story of the life of an ordinary young German woman (non Jewish); during Hitler's rise to power until his defeat. The story extands into the allied occupation and the chaos that follows.
