Loved it. Love this series. Yes, it's a police procedural (set in 2059), and she's a homicide cop and her cases are generally pretty convoluted and/or horrific. (And the bad gal in this case is evil!) But the reason I keep coming back in the ongoing development of the main characters. I love the development of Eve's (Dallas) & Roarke's marriage and their relationship to and with each other -- this book brings us to their first wedding anniversary. I love the love the continuing development o...more

#14 in the Eve Dallas - 'in Death' series. Quite a busy series - Eve married Roark at the end of #3 Immortal in Death (1996) and now in #14 Reunion in Death (2002) she celebrates her first anniversary. But sometime even the fictional timeline has conflicts: in #2 Glory in Death (1995) Eve notices potential in Officer Peabody; in the intervening year, Peabody had become her aide and now has been given the assignment of lead officer in a homicide case.

Eve Dallas series - Dallas is a warrior cop wh...more

Beware of spoilers

It’s 2059 and nearing Roarke and Eve’s one year anniversary. Not that there is much time to celebrate now that a convicted killer was released from prison for good behavior and is back to her old tricks; killing powerful and wealthy men by poisoning their drinks. Eve put her in a cage once and it’s her job to do it again. Especially now that Roarke is a target.

I found this installment to be a bit on the dull side. I didn’t even wan...more

- Peabody got a full confession with Dallas's helping note
- Meat Peabody's parents Pheobe & Sam
- Pheobe has some power of persuasion, even works on Roarke
- Sam is a "sensitive" & while relieving Dallas of her headache accidently sees her past as a child victim

Good, interesting story. Crazy woman poisoning men in New York. A woman Eve assisted in putting in a cage ten years earlier. A good cat and mouse game between Eve and the killer. Eve and Roarke going to Dallas, his horror at Eve remembering her time as a child. Dr. Mira showing up at Roarke's office to discuss it with him. Peabody's parents staying at Roarke and Eve's place. Mr. Peabody learning about Eve's painful childhood. McNab trying to romance Peabody. With each story, the interaction betw...more

A black widow type murderer, who Eve previously tracked down and convicted, is released from the jail. But now she is killing strangers in Eve's back yard and her ultimate goal is Roake. Eve must find and stop her before it is too late.

Reunion in Death is the sixteenth instalment in the In Death series by J.D. Robb. To date she has written 40 books in the series, with two more expected to be released in the fall of 2011. These are crime drama, suspense and roma...more

I have to admit to an inner sense of glee when I thought Ms. Roberts was killing off men who married women more than 15 years their junior. Never have understood why a man would want to go around with a woman who makes him look old. But, as it turns out, that isn't the premise for the murders at all. Ms. Roberts is much too subtle for that. Once again, we know early on who is doing the killing and why. The focus is on the hunt and capture. There are many lovely scenes in this book, including qui...more

Eve Dallas is a cop to the bone. Having a woman who she knows killed before released and killing again, threateneing her beloved husband, Roarke, sets things in motion to force Dallas to travel back to the last place on earth she feels ready to go.

Julianna Dunne never forgot the woman who helped put her away. A woman should never go against another woman. Men were the enemy.

Interspersed with the drama of the poisonings by Julianna, is the normal drama of being a cop with family and friends. A co...more

14th in Eve Dallas Series; Great Suspense and Entertainment...

J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) is writing this "... In Death" series at the incredible pace of two per year. The debut in 1995 opened us to a new world of NYC homicide crimes set in the year 2058. Various high tech phones, personal air travel vehicles, and human-like "droids" (worker-bees) add an imaginative touch to these police procedurals. In this the 14th of the set, homicide lieutenant Eve Dallas, along with a now familiar cast of reg...more

It's been almost a year since our very own Eve got hitched to one of the richest man on the planet, maybe even off of it... lol.
Eve and Roarke are alive and kicking (that's more that can be said considering the risks these two put themselves under...lol).

**mild spoilers**

In this book Eve realizes that system is sometimes less than perfect and killers are often let loose. This cold blooded killer kills with poison and she makes Roarke her personal target to get back at Eve. Together Roarke and...more

It's been a few months since I've read a book in the In Death series. I find that I have to take breaks in between otherwise they start to mesh together too much. But it's always nice to come back to the series and the characters. Reunion in Death is no different.

A man is poisoned at his 60th birthday party and no one can figure out why. He was beloved by friends and family. Eve quickly figures out that an old nemesis of hers has been released from prison and is looking to have a little reunion...more

WHAT I HATED ABOUT THE BOOK:
Except for the frustrations wherein the culprit kept on escaping Eve's clutches, nothing else.

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THE BOOK:
1. God. I love the adrenaline rush that this gave me after Eve went after Julianna Dunne one time after another, only to end up failing soon afterwards. There was always a gripping urgency to get her caught as the killer has this unquenched thirst for murder. Although not as full of gore as most of her other books, this novel still makes up to it b...more

Walter Pettibone, owner of a florist empire is poisoned during his own surprise birthday party. None of the guests appear to have a motive for the murder, but once Lt. Eve Dallas identifies the murderer on security videos, she recognizes her as Julianna Dunne, a woman Eve helped put in prison early in her career. Now, after ten years in prison, having been released on good behaviour, Julianna plans to get back at all the people from her past who she has grievances against, and Eve Dallas is at t...more

REUNION IN DEATH is hands down the best book in the series. It could possibly be one of the best books I’ve ever read. I consider all the In Death books to be above most books in terms of writing and characters but with this book, Robb has really surpassed herself exponentially.

Robb takes a different approach to this book. We find out who the killer is early on, but in order to shut her down, we need to find the motive. As a birthday party becomes a murder scene, Eve Da...more

Eve faces an adversary from a previous case who certainly comes back with a vengence and personal vendetta, but the depth to the case is much more than first appears because haven't we all been expecting somebody from a cage to be released now? So this one isn't the average case and vendetta, it's a women with a passion for killing and a hatred for men. Eve and Roarke are nearing their one year anniversary, and their relationship is tested in a very different manner in this installment.

Her seferinde bunu yavaş okuyacağım diyorum olmuyor. Hatta özel olarak bu haftayı seçtim başlamak için, vizelerim var yavaş yavaş okurum dedim ama fayda etmedi aksine daha beter oldu. Her neyse... Yine mükemmel bir Eve Dallas kitabıydı. Her ne kadar katil en başından belli olsa da tüm sayfaları heyecan içinde okudum.

Katil, Julianna Dunne. Eve'in içeri tıkmaya çalıştığı ilk suçlu diyebiliriz. Ama kadın delil yetersizliğinden rehabilitasyonla kurtarmış. Erkeklerden nefret ediyor ve onları öldürmey...more

A beloved old man is poisoned and Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas realizes very quickly the killer is Julianna Dunne who has just been released from prison. Roarke is next in her sights and between Dallas protecting her man who says he doesn't need any protection and Julianna stalking Roarke, this makes for a very edgy novel.

Dallas also confronts her past and the associated demons head-on by visiting Texas. How Dallas deals with the wide open spaces and cows and horses makes for some humourous mome...more

Indoesian review : Harlequin Romance Reviews

First of all, sorry for my English =)

Apparently Eve and Roarke have married for one year in this book, 12 months with 12 books. Means one month one book for each event *weird conclusion*.

Unfortunately the characters' interaction in this book are less than the other books, for me. Maybe because, the book focus on Eve. So the story is really about her. Summerset, McNab, and Mavis only appear briefly.

But the interaction between Eve and Roarke, yes it is h...more

When a man dies at his own birthday party, poisoned by cyanide, Lt. Eve Dallas is tossed into a man-hunt for a killer she has put away once before - a woman who does not hesitate to kill men for money or pleasure. Soon, Eve discovers that the killer is playing games with her - and that Roarke is a target. Complicating matters even more is the sudden appearance of Peabody's parents - and Eve has to deal with more revelations from her own tangled past.

These books just keep getting better as more a...more

"Lord, Give me the strength not to bitch slap this woman!"

I wrote that when I heard it , about 30 minutes into the audio book. Now that I've finished, it doesn't even feel like the same book. This book felt a little like a bunch of short stories and plot points in the Eve Dallas universe crammed together to make a whole book. The main case in this books was not interesting enough to really grab me. There was no mystery. The murderer was identified right away and the parts of the book about it w...more

Another great Eve/Roarke story. I always like those that have more of their personal story than the actual murder mystery.

In this one, Eve has to go to Dallas to interview a possible victim. And she could easily ignore the city and go home right away, but she decides to confront her memories, all of which are getting stronger while she is with Roarke. Probably because she can handle them now that she had someone to help her.

The mystery is a woman serial killer that Eve helped put away nine years...more

This was one of my favorite books in this series. I've been trying to read them in order from the beginning of the series. This series has had 2 books per year for the last 17 years. It seems that a lot of villains and not so many villainesses. It was very strange to read a book whose antagonist has the same name as yourself.
That being said Julianna was a refreshing. She was a "Bad Guy" who killed men because she liked to kill. She believed all men were unfaithful and deserved to die. She's bea...more

As always, I enjoyed my visit with Eve and Roarke. However, I didnt' find myself as involved with this book as I have with some of the others. I find this interesting, as Eve faces some huge personal challenges here as she deals with the closeness of Peabody's family and finally returns to Dallas and the hotel room where she killed her father as a child. Roarke goes with her, and his pain as he watches her relive that awful night, is strongly written. So I'm not sure why this chapter in Eve and...more

I like the Eve books, but this one was kind of irritating. When you read them in order, even Eve's emotional pain gets a bit overdone. The scene in the hotel room in Dallas was just too much. The villain was interesting and I liked how we got a glimpse into her thought process now and then. However, Eve just dominated this book. Also, Peabody's parents came into town and it was just odd. It was like there was this big secret with them that was never revealed. Their characters felt anticlimactic...more

A great read all-around; has the same great characters as the previous In Death series. One reason I love this series, is the two man stars: Eve and Roarke, both flawed, not perfect, yet human and perfect for each other.
This one starts off with a man dropping dead on his birthday, from being poisoned with Cyanide, in front of nearly 200 people. Even investigates and thanks to the slip of a tongue by Roarke, soon realizes she knows the killer already. Through investigating previous cases and ta...more

Only by delving into lurid events from a frequently horrifying past, can Eve and Peabody bring two femme fatales to justice.

With some down time following a two-week vacation in 2058, NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas decides it is time for Officer Peabody to become primary on a case, a six-year-old cold case. The case they catch later that night also harks back to the past, and a killer Eve already caged once. Moreover, with Peabody's parents in town for a surprise visit, family is much on Eve's mind....more

Wow! I'm inching my way up there! I see Robb's about to publish #40, but I remain undeterred :)

Some installments are very good, and some I just love. This book falls into the love category for me. Eve takes a trip to Dallas, TX and relives and confronts the childhood nightmare that has been haunting her and edging closer to the surface all year long. It's hard to make me cry, but Robb did it with this heart-wrenching scene.

Then we have Eve and Rourke's one year anniversary, and trust, he put AL...more

As with most of the other books in this series, the homicides take a backseat to the character development here. Eve went to Dallas to face her past and it was truly horrific and heartbreaking and traumatic to read. Kudos to Nora Roberts for what I know had to be hard scenes to even write...she did a brilliant job here in making me feel it along with Eve, but also allowing the reader to experience it for the first time with Roarke. His reaction to the whole episode felt almost more powerful than...more

I don't get it. I was so excited to read a JD Robb book after hearing all the hype about them, but this was such a let down. It's not that my tastes are too high-brow for a good old fashioned detective book, seriously, and I love some L&O reruns. This was... Boring. I kept waiting to get pulled into the plot or at least some entertaining sexyfuntimes w/Eve Dallas' hot husband, alas, I was bored the whole time. To be fair, I picked up a book from the middle of the series, so I'll give an earl...more

I love Nora Roberts but had never read any of the books that she wrote as J.D. Robb which I have since found out is her futuristic series - a genre I usually don't read. For the most part to me it was a suspense/mystery and romance read as opposed to futuristic although some of the words used and references made you knew you were in the future - 2059 to be exact! It was an enjoyable read and I will now have to go back and read the series from the beginning. Loved the characters of Eve and Roarke...more

Eleanor Marie Robertson was born on October 10, 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland, U.S.A. She was the youngest of the five children, also the only girl, of a marriage with Irish ancestors. Her family were avid readers, so books were always important in her life. She attended a Catholic school and credits the nuns with instilling in her a sense of discipline.
