Recommends it for: Mystery lovers!
Read for literature class.

My translation:
"But some events don't seem to be ruled by either will or reason, they occur completely unexpected, surprising, unforeseen. We call them coincidences or chance, but we don't know anything about them."

This was definitely not as bad as I was first expecti...more

Maria Gripe citaba...more

This is pretty funny, because I had to read this book for school (I wasn't much of a bookworm at 12, lol, actually, I didn't read at all) Thing is, I REAAALLY didn't wanna read it (the title isn't veeeery appealing to be honest plus I kinda disliked reading) but then, the book exam was getting closer so I was like, well, just get it over with) and OMG! It turned out to be so good! (It's been 3 and a half years since then so I don't remember that much D:) I'm not sure if I would've liked it if I'...more

Tordyveln flyger I Skymningen (roughly translated to “The Dor beetle flying in the twilight”) is a Swedish YA book written by Maria Gripe, one of, in my opinion greatest YA author ever. She has written Agnes Cecilia – En sällsam historia which is my favorite YA book of all time.

This is the first time I listen to the book (well 90% of the book, I read the ending) and it was a great joy to do so since the book actually from the beginning was a summer serial in the radio that later got published as...more

I absolutely loved this book as a teen. I found it enchanting and magical and somewhat poetical.
This year, it was in my kid's reading list from school. I didn't tell her to read it, as I know she needs to choose on her own, but finally she picked it up and I was so eager to read it along her. She started slowly and before she stroke midway she was tired with it, so offered to read aloud to her and comment on the chapters.
And I discovered the problem. The story is still enchanting, but the writ...more

I'm multilingual, so a lot of the books I read and do read are in other languages than English (which is why my reviews are often of the nearest thing there, not the actual book...). I first read this one in a completely different one than Swedish, to be honest, but I find re-reading a good practice for learning languages and staying in touch with them. The book itself? Fantastic.

This is probably my favorite book so far.

This one is the kind of book that I just don't get. The plot is exquisite and the story is amazing... until you get to the end. How can such a book end this way? I didn't give it the five stars because of the end. It leaves too many points without an explanation and it isn't a series, so you can't figure out what happened.

I listened to this on e-book when I was a teenager and fancied another read at 35+ and it is still excellent. Love the story, how it fits together. Part detective story part love story with an egyptian twist set in Sweden.

Maria Gripe, born Maja Stina Walter (25 July 1923, Vaxholm, Uppland – 5 April 2007, Rönninge), was a Swedish author of books for children and young people, often written in a magical and mystical tone. In 1946 she married the artist Harald Gripe, who created cover illustrations for most of her books. His illustration career, in fact, began in connection with his wife's debut as author of I vår lil...more
