If the Lupi, gnomes, a sourcerer, and a sensitive werent enough for you, Mortal Danger should take care of that. In the second book in this series, Wilks added an annoying demon, who does grow on you. She also adds a Finder, dragons and many other not so friendly demons. Rule and Lily are still trying to figure out the mate bond, as well as find Harlowe and the staff. Cullen plays a much larger role, and I hope Wilks continues to show us more of his character. I would like to learn more about Ru...more

You know... I have no idea what to make of this book. Was it good? Yes. Like book 1, it was difficult to put down. However, It was confusing at times, but I think that was the point. Once you got used to the book being confusing, it wasn't so confusing anymore, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Like I said in my review of book 1, this is NOT a romance series. The romance is in the background of the much larger plot & the events that take place, especially the ones that took place in this b...more

After reading this book, I finally figured what's been bothering me since the first book of the series. I liked the scenes with Lily Yu, the main character, but the ones that she wasn't in were boring to me. I couldn't warm up to a lot of the other characters. There are things I don't like about Lily, too, but generally it's nice to read about her. Mostly I don't care for Rule all that much and he's supposed to be a big part of the plot besides just the sexy love interest - and not liking him ma...more

I've had this ever since it came out, but for various reasons I never actually started reading it - which is strange as I loved Tempting Danger and the short story Originally Human.

I loved this too. It was great to see more of Lily and Rule - and a 'soulmate' kind of relationship where they still have to work on the relationship was a nice change from the way the concept is often written.

Cullen is back and new character Cynna is a fascinating introduction. Considering she's human with a dubious...more

Didn't wow me like the first book did, but I enjoyed the character development with Lily & Rule & more Cullen time!
However I didn't enjoy the, let's call it the weirdness, that took up a good percentage of the book. I had trouble seeing how this moved the series along in some aspects but it does let you know, but not in the same way Tempting Danger did. Which I think was my problem as i preferred the first book! While there was a climax to the near ending of the book I felt a little let...more

3.5/5 (C+)

Story - In this book, Lily has made the switch and has become a FBI agent and has accepted her bond to Rule; although there are still a lot to learn about each other. As for Rule, he can't help it being protective, although Lily is very independent and wish they would live together.

As for the story, well in this one, Lily, Rule and Cullen are after the cult leader from Book 1 and the staff he stole. The lupi want to destroy the staff while the FBI wants to keep it and study it, which a...more

Solid Urban Fantasy Series
If you're looking for a paranormal romance, Eileen Wilks' World of the Lupi series may not be quite your cup of tea. While there are romantic elements in the book - more in Mortal Danger than in Tempting Danger, the series opener - those elements are not the driving plot of the book. If you like your books more along the lines of urban fantasy, then give Wilks a try. You won't be disappointed.

Lily Yu is no longer a homicide cop, but her life and her job as an agent for...more
Kt from A Book Obsession..

After the events of the last book, it was inevitable that there would be repercussions for Lily. Harlowe, the leader of the cult serving the goddess whose name cannot be spoken, is out to destroy Lily. Since she is a sensitive and magic does not work on her, he uses the goddess to help form a plot to enable a demon to possess Lily. Things go wrong and Lily finds herself split in two with neither half knowing about the other.

While Lily has finally accepted that she is bound to Rule for life, she...more

Mortal Danger left me a gobsmacked, wowed and with a whole lot of ‘it that it’ thrown in.

If you haven’t read the first in this series, ‘Tempting Danger’, you really are missing out on quite a wonderful story with great characters. The interaction between Raul and Lily is reminiscent of one of my all time favourite fictional couples: Rourke & Eve (from JD Robb’s ‘In Death’ series).

The fiercely independent Lilly is a character I can (or would like to) related to, particularly in the pig-headed...more

Another very good book by Eileen Wilks, the second in the “World of the Lupi” series, is the “Mortal Danger”. This book, like the first one, isn’t the classic pnr book. Of course there is romance, but it’s not the main theme in the book. It’s a combination of pnr and urban fantasy, so I think that it will satisfy the fans of both genres.

Lily Yu is now an agent for the FBI, in the Magical Crime Division. And it’s not easy! From the beginning of the book she has problems and she is attacked in her...more

Ah, I loved this book. I love Lily and Rule, even when Lily is being so very stubborn. So glad to see more of Cullen and I really like Cynna. Glad she was introduced. So obvious she was put there to hook up with Cullen, though. I have to wonder, if they'll be regular mates or if there will be a mate bond. I think the mate bonds only happen when one is a Chosen, though and according to the Rhej, there are other plans for Cynna. We'll be seeing a lot more of her, I'm sure.

I liked the way the story...more

I am so glad I discovered this series, although I dont really remember how I came across it.

In the first book I was just so impressed by the relationship between Rule and Lily that I really didnt care about the story at all. Not that it was bad, I was just too distracted by Rule and Lily's hotness to care. In this one I think the story was much more interesting. Enough for me to notice. :P It was still a tad confusing, but there was lots of great action including a scene where 8 werewolves turn...more

I found this a very exciting sequel to Tempting Danger. It began close to where the first one left off. These definitely segue into the next story after it so definitely read them in order. Oh, and if you haven't read the first one, you might not wish to read this review because I need to bring up things from the first story.

This one has Rule and Lily tense and frustrated with each other because they can't seem to compromise about anything let alone how they will handle their mate bond. Unbeknow...more

If you're looking to get into this series, I would recommend starting with the first book Tempting Danger. There's a lot of continuing threads to these books that wouldn't make as much sense if you started elsewhere in the series. With that said...

After the first book in the series, I was extremely disappointed with this installment. The book started off great, it picked up the story not long after the first book ended. Lily and Rule are slowly adjusting to the bond and they're still looking for...more

This is the second book I've read by Eileen Wilks and due to the intricate web of story weaving, she is quickly becoming one of my favorites. In this sequel to Tempting Danger, Lily and Rule find themselves thrown into the world of demons called "Dis" or hell. They battle for their very existence and when there seems to be no hope, they find assistance from the most unlikely creatures. Wilks is masterful at spinning a fascinating world mixed with myth, poetry and folklore. Book 2 was not as fast...more

This is the second book in the Lupi series by Eileen Wilks, and I liked this one about as much as the first one in the series. The book starts out where the previous one left off so I' d definitely recommend reading Tempting Danger before you start this one. Ok, this book just didn't work for me, it's starts out as a police drama which is ok I like police dramas but the paranormal elements in this book were completely unbelievable for me. Minor spoiler alert - being the same person in two places...more

Another good one in the series. For all that this series is ranking high stars from me, it likely will not hit my "just plain top notch" category. Maybe later. The characters hold this book. Have you ever read a series and not wanted it to stop, even if nothing happened and you just read about the characters' lives - just because you liked them that much? This is that, except without the knockout series leading up to it. It's still good, it's just that the plot is a by-product. It simply doesn't...more

WOW - lots to keep track of in this book. So many different twists and turns - new places, characters, etc... to keep track of. It made it hard at times to keep up.

That said, it was a great book! Loved how the story grew and moved on from where it ended in the first book ended. It also makes me want to pick up all the anthologies that coincide with the series but are in other books. I have read one of them but it supposedly doesn't come into play in the sequence of novels until after book 3 or 4...more

Mystery, action, fantasy and love, what more could you ask for... great characters, and Wilks delivers them. Lily Yu now an FBI agent and her mate Rule Turner are still trying to figure out the whole mate-bond thing when a crazy preacher with a magical staff from the under-world starts causing all kind of mayhem. This brings our heroes Lilly , Rule and co. to a very dangerous place where they encounter many new beasties and (my favorite) DRAGONS !!!! Lily and rule are separated and yet not separ...more

**Plot summary** Former homicide cop Lily Yu has a lot on her plate. There's her sister's wedding, a missing magical staff with unknown powers, and her grandmother's sudden decision to visit the old country just when Lily could use a little advice. Maybe she should turn to the man she's involved with, but for all the passion that flares between them, she doesn't really know Rule Turner. Yet she's tied to him for life, both of them caught in an unbreakable mate bond.

This is the second installment in the series and it's even better than the first.

Action packed, danger at every turn, this book kept me up at night because I couldn't put it down!

I love Rule, I LOVE the lupi, I love Eileen Wilks' writing style. The one thing that held this back from getting a 5 is, once again, Lily's stubbornness when it comes to things she can't explain logically. I just cannot understand how someone who's grandma is obviously some sort of shifter, and who can sense magic in ot...more

Mortal Danger, Book 2, World of the Lupi is another fascinating volume about a world in which magic is a part of daily life. Lily Yu is now a member of the the FBI's Magical Crime Division and is assigned her first big case. Philip Harlowe and the Church of the Aza have returned and blame Lily for their failures in the first book. A body of a young woman who died through magical means is discovered with a message, "For Yu." Lily's relationship continues to evolve with Rule Turner while her relat...more

This one was such a departure from the first book. I thought I had a handle one where this series was going, then it takes a sharp left turn into Fantasyland.

The first one was a police investigation of a werewolf murder(s) with magical elements towards the ends. This one was quite enjoyable in a different way. You have your demons, alternate realms, (including dis/hell), dragons, split personalities, bumps along the rocky road to romance, and lets not forget the funny bickering between Cynna an...more

Lily and Rule
Cynna and Cullen

A great second book in the series. I did have some mixed emotions on this one. It almost felt like Rule was with a different person, another person, another Lily when he was in Dis. He shared stuff with that Lily that the real Lily doesn't remember and is still trying to learn. I think this will kind of haunt them through a couple more books. I can see why the real Lily is jealous of what went on when she was working so hard to try and save Rule.

We met Cynna in this...more

Book 2 in the World of the Lupi was almost as good as the first. I like that Cullen had a bigger role since he is Rule's best friend. It also sets up Cynna as an ongoing character in future books of the series and she is an interesting character that I'd like to see more of.

I liked Lily's jealousy about Rule in this novel since she is clearly beginning to fall for him even though she denies it. I loved the ending, but would have liked more Lily/Rule together time!!

My only disappointment is the b...more

Loved the world building in this one and the introduction of (view spoiler)[the dragons! And (hide spoiler)]other species. The plot thickens in this one. Not only are more major players introduced but well, pardon my French, shit gets crazy. Lots of implications that all lead to the same conclusion: earth as we know it will be forever changed. Since I read books 1 and 2 back to back this time, I got to see and experience Lily and Rule's relationship progress more naturally despite their mating b...more

***3.5***

This one is tough for me to evaluate. First and foremost, let's just get this right out of the way: I liked the book. I feel attached to the characters, engaged in what happens with them. And hell, I have already started reading the 3rd in this series.

That said, there were some flaws.

First flaw: I am really not fond of Wilks' tendency to tell us about the action after the fact. This happened in the first book, and it is happening here too. (view spoiler)[When Lily and team go through th...more
