Just when you think a dish couldn't possibly sound any better...you turn the page. Kornfeld's innovative take on global cuisine focuses on fresh, colorful vegetables, whole grains, and legumes giving an occasional nod to poultry and seafood. There is no sense of deprivation yet the dishes lean toward the healthy, au naturel side. My only complaint is that I don't own a copy of this gem myself!
This is our go-to cookbook, the one that is always on the kitchen counter and never disappoints. I'm an omnivore and my husband is a vegan, yet we both love every recipe we've made from Healthy Hedonist- and we've made almost every recipe in the book. I have hundreds of cookbooks but maybe only five that I use all the time, and this one is my all-time favorite cookbook.
This book promises to get my behind back in gear after a month of "eating" bachelorette style (taco truck guy was my best friend). Flipping through the recipes is waking up the sleepy food center in my brain, thankfully without the promise of crashing due to high expectations - the ingredients and methods are totally manageable, and Myra is sure to suggest quick alternatives to save you stress. Happy days are here again!
I wanted to love this book. I am practicing to be a hedonist, so the title completely appealed to me. Unfortunately, the recipes didn't sound great to me. I didn't tag any recipes as ones that I wanted to make. When I got to the end and hadn't found any recipes, I looked through again to double check, searching for at least one recipe. But, no - nothing jumped out at me. :-(
Fans of The Day After Thanksgiving party will recognize a few favorite recipes. Coconut Curried Greenbeans, cajun roasted sweet potatoes, roast chicken with maple glaze, gluten free peanut butter cookies (chick pea flour--very good) and just flipping through to find the ones I liked, I found a dozen more to try.
